  • Three-dimensional numerical analysis of the turbulent premixed flame propagation in a constant volume combustion chamber is performed using the KIVA-3V code (Amsden et. al. 1997) by the flame surface density (FSD) model. A simple near-wall boundary condition is eaployed to describe the interaction between turbulent premixed flame and the wall. A mean stretch factor is introduced to include the stretch and curvature effects of turbulence. The results from the FSD model are compared with the experimental results of schlieren photos and pressure measurements. It is found that the burned mass rate and flame propagation by the FSD model are in reasonable agreement with the experimental results. The FSD combustion model proved to be effective for description of turbulent premixed flames.

  • The simulation program which predicts the gas behavior in a spark ignition engine has been developed and verified by the comparison with the experimental results foy the MPI engine, naturally aspirated and turbochared engines with a carburettor. First paper describes the calculations of the behavior of gas in the intake and exhaust system. The generalized method of characteristics including friction, heat transfer, area change and entropy gradients was used to analyse the pipe flow The constant-Pressure model was applied for the analysis of the flow through engine valved, and the constant-pressure perfect-mixing model was applied for the flow at manifold junction. The concept of the sudden area change was used for the muffler and catalytic convertor. Fer the plenum chamber in an MPI engine, constant-pressure model and constant-volume model were both examined. Through the comparison of predicted results with experiments, the simulation program was verified by showing good prediction of the behavior of IC engine qualitatively and quantitatively under wide range of operating conditions.

  • The fault detection and diagnosis technology may be applied in order to decrease the energy consumption and the maintenance cost of an air-conditioning system. In this study, partial faults for fans, coils, dampers, and sensors of a constant volume air handling unit were considered. A fuzzy algorithm was developed to detect and diagnose these faults. Diagnostic results by the fuzzy algorithm were compared with those by the model reference algorithm. The fuzzy algorithm showed better results in diagnostic accuracies.

  • A constant-volume combustion chamber is developed to measure the burnt gas temperature over the wide ranges of equivalence ratio from 1.5 to 2.7 and pressure from 0.1 to 2.7 and pressure from 0.1 to 6 MPa by two-color method. The combustion temperature is also calculated by the conventional two-region model. The premixed fuel rich propane-oxygen-inert gas mixtures under high pressures are simultaneously ignited by eight spark plugs located on the circumference of combustion chamber with 45 degree intervals. The eight converging flames compress the end gases to high pressures. The transmissiv-ity in the chamber center during the final stage of combustion at the highest pressure is measured by in situ laser extinction method. Comparisons are made with the combustion temperatures between two-color method and two-region model. It is found that the burnt gas temperature mea-sured by two-color method is higher than that calculated by two-region model because of being the negative temperature gradient on the calculation and the temperature distribution of light path-length on the measurement and the burnt gas temperature for the turbulent combustion is higher than that of the laminar combustion under the same conditions because the heat loss for turbulent combustion is lower due to the shorter combustion period.

  • A multidimensional numerical simulation of turbulent combustion in a constant volume bomb is implemented to clarify the effects of swirl on combustion. This simulation includes the ICED-ALE numerical technique, the skew-upwind differencing scheme, the modified .Kappa.-.epsilon. turbulence model, and the combustion model of the Arrhenius type and the turbulence-mixing-control type. The calculations of the turbulent combustion with swirl are carried out. It shows that the results agree with the measurements allowably. Therefore, the effects of swirl on turbulent combustion are examined through the parametric study of swirl.

  • In this study, a new accommodation-dependent crystalline lens with a constant volume and homogeneous refractive index is developed. The human lens parameters, such as curvature and thickness, are calculated at the central parts of the lens, and the asphericity is adjusted at the peripheral parts of the lens due to accommodation. We propose a accommodating schematic eye which is suitable for easy paraxial calculations because the refractive index of the lens remains uniform and constant.

  • In this study, PZT/PVDF composites with O-3 phase connectivity were prepared by hot pressing method, and the dielectric and piezoelectric properties as a function of PZT volume fraction were investigated. A modified cubic model was introduced to explain the influence of the PZT volume fraction on the experimentally determined dielectric constant. As A n=0.125, the measured dielectric constant values agreed with the calculated values. It was found that dielectric constant .xi.$_{33}$ and piezoelectric coefficient d$_{33}$ increased with indreasing PZT volume fraction, and hydrostatic piezoelectric figure of merit d/aub h/.g$_{h}$ was improved relative to that of the PZT single phase material.l.l.l.

  • This paper presents a forecasting method for production volume of each model manufacture d goods by using Back-Propagation technique of Neural Networks. As the learning constant and the momentum constant are respectively 0.65 and 0.94, the teaming number is the least, and the forecating accuracy is the highest. When the learning process is more than 1,000 times, the accurate forecating was possible regardless of kind of product.

  • This study aimed to analyze spray characteristics and the ambient flow field in the mixture preparation state of the premixed combustion stage. It is very important to understand the spray characteristics and the fuel injection conditions in direct injection diesel engine because the emission gas compositions from diesel engines are related to spray formation processes of the premixed combustion stage. The numerical simulation was performed using the STAR-CD which is a commercial CFD code. Computed results of the transient high pressure diesel spray were compared with experimental results of the same spray injection condition in the constant volume chamber. The results show that spray patterns of numerical simulation agree with this experimental results comparatively.
