  • The influences of some casting conditions on bonding ratio and state at bonding zone of stainless steel-cast iron dual tube produced by centrifugal casting process were investigated to estimate fabrication technics. 1) Bonding ratio is increasing such as increasing of inner surface temperature of outer metal(stainless steel STS 304), if pouring temperature of inner metal (cast iron) is constant. 2) The more pouring temperature of inner metal (cast iron) increase, the more bonding ratio increase when inner surface temperature of outer metal (cast iron) is constant. 3) As the mold rotary speed is increase, the hatching area of bonding map (perfect bonding area) goes down to the low pouring temperature of inner metal. 4) In order to predict bonding state of two different metal, we are able to make and use the bonding map about casting conditions such as inner surface temperature of outer metal, pouring temperature of inner metal and mold rotary speed.

  • For the adsorption of polyelectrolyte at the surface of polyacrylamide gel particle, preferential adsorption of the large polyelectrolyte such as DNA is governed by the surface area of an adsorbent. The adsorption equilibrium constant can be varied by surface geometry of porous polymer, and it can be described as a function of ionic strength and surface area. Physical parameters affecting the adsorption were estimated using the theoretical governing equation of polyelectrolyte which electrophoretically moved along the column, and geometrical surface area was estimated by Waldman-Mayer's physical model. The separation of polyelectrolytes was studied using the physical parameters estimated by ionic strength and surface geometry.

  • The adsorption behaviors of two major components purified, endo Ⅱ and exo Ⅱ, from Trichoderma viride were investigated using microcrystalline cellulose with different specific surface area as substrates. Adsorption was found to apparently obey the Langmuir isotherm and the thermodynamic parameters, ΔH, ΔS, and ΔG, were calculated from adsorption equilibrium constant,K. The adsorption process was found to be endothermic and an adsorption entropy-controlled reaction. The amount of adsorption of cellulase components increased with specific surface area and decreased with temperature and varied with a change in composition of the cellulase components. The maximum synergistic degradation occurred at the specific weight ratio of the cellulase components at which the maximum affinity of cellulase components obtains. The adsorption entropy and enthalpy for respective enzyme system increased with specific surface area increase. The adsorption entropy was shown to have a larger value with enzyme mixture.

  • The monolayer behaviors at the air-water interface and the dielectric properties of MI-0 LB films for complex concentration were investigated by the surface pressure-area ($\pi$-A) isotherms and dielectric constant. The molecular area was expanded with increase of metal ions concentration. It is considered that the expansion of molecular area is due to electrostatic repulsion between the polymer chains andhydrophobic increase of ionic strength. In the frequency-dependent complex dielectric constant at room temperature, the real part of dielectric constant($\varepsilon'$) is about 6.0~10.0 in the low-frequency range and is decreasing slowly upto $1O^4$Hz. It decreased abruptly near $1O^5Hz$. It seems to be dielectric dispersion in this frequency range. Also, the imaginary part of dielectric constant ($\varepsilon"$) shows a peak in $1O^5$~$1O^6Hz$. It seems to be dielectric absorption in this frequency range.ange.

  • This paper describes a local modification capability on shell meshes, which can change a 'constant or variable radius of rounding for the s h q edges of the stamping die shoulder in the mesh. The algorithm consists of the followin_e three main steps; (1) the rounding area for sharp edges of a die shoulder are detected from the given shell mesh, (2) a rolling-ball surface with a given constant or variable radius is generated, which is contacti% with two incident face groups of the sharp edges, (3) the rounding area of the mesh is cut off, and a new mesh for the rolling-ball surface is generated and implanted into the gap. Owing to this rounding modification capability, CAE engineers can examine various cases based on the existing dies by scanning them to form polyhedral models and then changing radii of die shoulders for stamping process simulation.

  • The amount of nitrogen gas adsorbed by Spherocarb and Sucrose Char was measured as a function of the relative pressure with temperature being kept constant at 77 to 184K. Isotherms at different temperatures were obtained by keeping the adsorbent at a constant temperature using liquid nitrogen, iso-pentane, n-pentane, ethyl alcohol, and iso-propyl alcohol slush baths. The objective for this study is to provide information on the specific surface area and pore volume by analyzing the experimental data using adsorption models such as the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller and Dubinin-Radushkevich models.

  • Pressure tensors at the planar surface of liquid-vapor argon are evaluated from the virial theorem, Irving-Kirkwood, and Harasima versions using a test-area molecular dynamics simulation method through a Lennard-Jones intermolecular potential at two temperatures. We found that the normal and transverse components of the pressure tensor, $p_N(z)$ and $p_T(z)$, obtained from the virial theorem and Harasima version are essentially the same. The normal component of the pressure tensor from Irving-Kirkwood version, $p_N^{IK}(z)$, is shown to be a nearly constant at the lower temperature, independent of z, as agreed in a previous study, but not for $p_N^H$(z), while the transverse components, $p_T^{IK}(z)$ and $p_T^H(z)$, are almost the same. The values of surface tension for both versions computed from $p_N(z)-p_T(z)$ are also the same and are fully consistent with the experimental data.

  • Thermally treated Korean ilmenite was characterized and used for water splitting to obtain hydrogen by photo-catalytic reaction. Experiments on specific surface area, X-ray diffraction and EDS showed that the formation of FeO, $Fe_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$ ilmenite crystal surface increased the specific surface area with maximum value, phase change of $TiO_2$ at $600^{\circ}C$ and hetrogeneity. The hydrogen evolved in caustic soda solution on these ilmenites indicated that there was a maximum yield point at about $600^{\circ}C$. This point was explained with the change of the surface area due to sintering of newly formed FeO, $Fe_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$, as well as crystal phase change of anatase to rutile at $600^{\circ}C$. Produced hydrogen increased also as the concentration of caustic soda, but become constant at the near 1N solution.

  • A metal 3D printer has been developed on its own to electrodeposit the localized area. Nozzles were used to selectively laminate the electrolytic plating method. To analyze the factors affecting the deposition, the stack height, thickness and surface roughness were experimentally analyzed according to the current density and the temperature of the electrolyte. Electrolytic temperature and current are electrodeposited when the deposition conditions are dominant over the etching conditions, but the thickness is kept constant. On the contrary, when the etching conditions are dominant, the electrodeposited shape is rather the etched. As a result, the uniformity of surface quality and electrodeposition rate could be improved by conducting experiments under constant conditions of electrolyte temperature and current density.

  • Dewatered digested sewage sludge were heated with microwave and their drying characteristics were investigated on the effect of their surface area, shape, diameter and thickness. The drying characteristics of identical samples in a conventional drying oven were studied. In conventional drying, constant rate period was not found and moisture was evaporated with capillary action. Moisture in the sludge was a bound water and free water was not exist. In microwave drying, the falling rate period was divided into two zones. In falling rate drying period, moisture movement occured by diffusion. The evaporation surface area was a significant variable, the greater heating surface area promoted water removal rate over wide region of water content. Drying rate was slow and constant rate drying period was found in wide moisture content region with increasing diameter. Drying characteristics appeared differently in various shape. In microwave heating, first of all temperature of sludge center was increased and was the highest. Temperature in the constant rate drying period was remained constantly at $80{\sim}100^{\circ}C$.
