Developing Trends of the Chiral Drug Separation and Analysis Technology by using Molecular Recognition (분자인식 기법에 의한 키랄 의약품 분리 분석기술 개발동향)

  • As the quality of life has improved, the desire for the safety and quality of the foods and drugs has been gradually increasing. For safety and quality management in foods, drugs, health management, agriculture, environmental conservation, and the industrial fields, the demand for quickly and accurately measuring various chemicals has been increasing. As well, the desire for self-diagnosis of one's own health state and self-examining the safety of environment has been gradually increasing. Optical Isomers can have very different physiological effects on human beings. One isomer can exhibit desirable pharmacological, pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic and physiological properties, while the other isomer can exhibit undesirable and toxic properties toward living organisms, especially human beings. And they can exhibit different activities in chemical and biotechnological processes. Although the majority of commercially available drugs are now both synthetic and chiral materials, a most chiral drugs are still marketed as racemic drugs. Thus, to avoid possible undesirable side effects from chiral drugs, more effective methods for separating and recognizing chiral compounds are urgently needed. In this report, we investigated the overall developing trends of the chiral drug separation and analysis technology by using molecular recognition.

Future Korean Water Resources Projection Considering Uncertainty of GCMs and Hydrological Models (GCM과 수문모형의 불확실성을 고려한 기후변화에 따른 한반도 미래 수자원 전망)

  • The objective of this study is to examine the climate change impact assessment on Korean water resources considering the uncertainties of Global Climate Models (GCMs) and hydrological models. The 3 different emission scenarios (A2, A1B, B1) and 13 GCMs' results are used to consider the uncertainties of the emission scenario and GCM, while PRMS, SWAT, and SLURP models are employed to consider the effects of hydrological model structures and potential evapotranspiration (PET) computation methods. The 312 ensemble results are provided to 109 mid-size sub-basins over South Korean and Gaussian kernel density functions obtained from their ensemble results are suggested with the ensemble mean and their variabilities of the results. It shows that the summer and winter runoffs are expected to be increased and spring runoff to be decreased for the future 3 periods relative to past 30-year reference period. It also provides that annual average runoff increased over all sub-basins, but the increases in the northern basins including Han River basin are greater than those in the southern basins. Due to the reason that the increase in annual average runoff is mainly caused by the increase in summer runoff and consequently the seasonal runoff variations according to climate change would be severe, the climate change impact on Korean water resources could intensify the difficulties to water resources conservation and management. On the other hand, as regards to the uncertainties, the highest and lowest ones are in winter and summer seasons, respectively.

A Three-Dimensional Galerkin-FEM Model with Density Variation (밀도 변화를 포함하는 3차원 연직함수 전개모형)

  • A three-dimensional Galerkin-FEM model which can handle the temporal and spatial variation of density is presented. The hydrostatic approximation is used and density effects are included by means of conservation equation of heat and the equation of state. The finite difference grids are used in the horizontal plane and a set of linear-shape functions is used for the vertical expansion. The similarity transform is introduced to solve resultant matrix equations. The proposed model was first applied to the density-driven circulation in an idealized basin in the presence of the heat exchange between the air and the sea. The advection terms in the momentum equation were ignored, while the convection terms were retained in the heat equation. Coefficients of the vertical eddy viscosity and diffusivity were fixed to be constant. Calculation in a non-rotating idealized basin shows that the difference in heat capacity with depth gives rise to the horizontal gradient of temperature. Consequently, there is a steady new in the upper layer in the direction of increasing depth with compensatory counter flow .in the lower layer. With Coriolis force, geostrophic flow was predominant due to the balance between the pressure gradient and the Coriolis force. As a test in region of irregular topography, the model is applied to the Yellow Sea. Although the resultant flow was very complex, the character of the flow Showed to be geostrophic on the whole.

Beach Deformation Caused by Typhoon Chaba in 2016 Along the Manseongri Coast Related Coastal Improvement Project (연안정비사업이 수행된 만성리 해수욕장에서 2016년 태풍 차바에 의한 해빈변화)

  • After Typhoon Chaba (No.18, 2016) collided with Manseongri Beach, a coastal improvement project was carried out since strong external forces such as waves, storm surges and wave-induced currents were observed to cause beach deformation. The shoreline, beach area and beach volume were periodically surveyed. On the basis of this field data, the beach deformation that occurred at Manseongri Beach has been formally described. Over three months after beach nourishment work began, the beaches were gradually stabilized in terms of natural external forces. However, this stabilization was interrupted by Typhoon Chaba. After two months of typhoon weather, the beach returned to a stable state and no changes were observed until one year after the beach recovery work. Just after the typhoon hit, the shoreline receded from the northern side, where no reduction of external forces occurred, while the rear beach area submerged by breakwater advanced. Also, the beach volume decreased by $3,395m^3$ after the typhoon, due to erosion that occurred on the northern beach, with deposition taking place on the southern backshore area. Therefore, it has been concluded that the coastal improvement project undertaken at Manseongri Beach has significantly contributed to conservation in areas of wave-dominant sediment transport.

Assessment of Running Speed of Large Logging Trucks on the Forest Road Structure (임도 구조에 따른 대형 목재운송차량의 주행속도 분석)

  • This study analyzed the running speed of logging trucks (25 tons), depending on the structural state of forest roads, on four main forest roads in the national forest management offices in Chuncheon and Hongcheon for trafficability. The speeds for the curved and straight sections were 7.6 km/h and 8.7 km/h, respectively, which were less than the designed speed (20 km/h). Thus, it would be necessary to improve the forest road's structure to fulfill minimum running speed. No significant difference was observed in the running speed by the longitudinal gradient up to 13%, while it was increased at more than 100 m by the distance in the straight section. By the facility's location in the curved section, the running speed was 6.2%-9.3% lower in a ridge than a valley. The running speed was lowest at the internal angles of <90° and at the curved radius of <15 m, respectively. When this radius was less than 15 m, the substandard sections for widening amounts were more than 50%; thus, sufficient widening was not achieved.

Revisiting of ancient tombs in Neungsan-ri, Buyeo (부여(扶餘) 능산리고분군(陵山里古墳群) 성격(性格)에 대한 재고(再考))

  • Royal tombs in Neungsan-ri had been studied several times during the Japanese Colonial era. But, conceiving the general complexion of them is difficult for lack of data and analysis of previous studies are still insufficient. Thus, necessity of new approach and understanding in Royal tombs in Neungsan-ri are emphasized by the reviewing existing studies and conservation history. The Serial numbers of the Royal tombs in Neungsan-ri has been registered arbitrarily without clear guidelines from Japanese Colonial era until present time. It means previous studies were devoid of consideration for serial number changes. And, research has shown that Royal tombs in Neungsan-ri counts at least twenty, taking No.8 tomb of recent study into consideration. Moreover, in case of eastern tombs it needs changes in the existing perception that Royal tombs in Neungsan-ri consist of only six-tombs because there was no difference between eastern tombs and central sixtombs considering the burial chamber and lacquered wooden(koyamaki) Coffin. Ultimately, current state of Royal tombs in Neungsan-ri doesn't have authenticity because they had been found and regulated in the Japanese Colonial era. Consequently, it is required to overall study into entrance to burial chamber and covered burial stone marker and exaggerated mounds, ignored another tombs other than six-tombs in the center.

Drying seaweeds using hybrid hot water Goodle dryer (HHGD): comparison with freeze-dryer in chemical composition and antioxidant activity

  • Seaweeds are a potential source of minerals, essential amino acids, fatty acids, proteins, and various bioactive compounds such as antioxidants. The higher water content of seaweeds reduces the shelf life and this requires the appropriate drying method. The drying conditions play a major role in the conservation of nutrient composition in dried seaweeds. In recent years, the seaweed industry has used many different drying methods with advantages and limitations. Hybrid hot-water Goodle dryer (HHGD) which is a special dryer mixed with hot-water and a Korean traditional heating system (Goodlejang) might be a solution to avoid these limitations. The present study evaluated the effect of drying conditions in HHGD on nutrient composition and bioactivities of brown seaweeds. Moreover, freeze-dryer (FD) and HHGD were employed in this study to compare the dried outputs obtained from four brown seaweed species. The present study aims to evaluate the effect of the hybrid hot-water Goodle drying method (HHGDM) on the nutritional composition and antioxidant activity of dried seaweeds. AOAC standard methods were used to analyze the proximate composition of dried samples and their 70% ethanol extract. The intracellular and extracellular antioxidant activities were evaluated using Vero cells and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometer respectively. High performance liquid chromatography, apoptotic body formation, and in-vivo experiments were used for further confirmation of the quality of dried output. The proximate composition results obtained from drying in HHGD and FD did not exhibit any significant difference. Moreover, the seaweed extracts from the dried seaweeds by HHGD and FD dryings were also not different and both significantly down-regulated in-vivo and in-vitro oxidative stress. Furthermore, the high performance liquid chromatography results revealed that the two dryers did not make the major peaks different in the chromatograms. Freeze-drying method (FDM) provides elevated quality for dried output, but there are limitations such as high cost and low capacity. The results from a novel HHGD did not provide any significant difference with the results in FD and expressed a potential to avoid the limitations in FD. Overall, these findings solidified the applicability of HHGD over FD.

  • This study analyses the historical and cultural streets at Pinggang Road in the city of Suzhou, by understanding the development and conservation of the area, and uses the following ways to investigate its development, re-organization, and current state. This paper comprehensively compares, collates and investigates 4 different historical and cultural areas in Insadong and Samcheong-dong in South Korea, and South Luogu Lane in China. From initial research and analysis, this paper gathers the cultural, economic, and societal perspectives as non-physical measures, and spatial structure, road structure, and building maintenance as physical factor framework. It is significant in that it can provide an evaluation model for the preservation and regeneration of historical and cultural streets by presenting the viewpoint of complex development of non-physical and physical elements in Pyeonggang-ro. In addition, it is necessary to conduct optimization and specific research on insufficient areas, such as maintenance and development of programs and signature systems for visitors, and continuous development of historical and cultural network platforms by combining on-site surveys. Basic data should be provided for reference on the street.

Application and Adequacy Evaluation of Mobile Sewage Treatment Facilities for Concrete Wastewater Treatment Generated during Construction (공사 중 발생되는 콘크리트 폐수처리를 위한 이동식 오수처리 시설의 적용 및 적정성 평가)

  • Some concrete wastewater generated during construction is in the form of non-point pollution sources that workers, managers, and users are unaware of, and it is not easy to manage as it flows through sewage pipes. Due to these characteristics, construction sludge is inflow into rivers and sewage pipes in the form of non-point pollution sources in an unmanaged state. This study applied the D.W.S method to the concrete retaining wall removal method installed on the road, and the resulting concrete wastewater was physically and chemically treated through a mobile sewage treatment facility, and it was examined whether it met the removal efficiency and wastewater discharge acceptance standards. Accordingly, it is intended to meet the standards for effluent concentration of wastewater during construction by removing 73.5% of BOD and 89.1% of SS through physical and chemical treatment through portable sewage treatment facilities during construction. In addition, we would like to review the adequacy and economic analysis of calculating environmental conservation costs for physicochemical treatment through portable sewage treatment facilities and sewage treatment generated during construction.

A Study on the Selection of Manager and Performance Evaluation in Management Models for Profitable Structure of Eco Pastoral System in Alpine Grassland (방목생태축산의 흑자수익 구조를 위한 경영관리모델별 경영자 선발과 업적평가에 대한 연구)

  • As a means to activate eco pastoral system in alpine grassland, the government can consider public pastures, which are currently unused, to scale them up into public ranches. Depending on ownership and operation, four management models proposed as follows: 1) Government-Owned and Operated with Balanced Profit and Loss 2) Government-Owned and Operated with Revenue Generation 3) Government-Owned but Privately Operated by Outsourced to Professional Manager 4) Full Privatization (Ownership and Operation by Private Individuals). The study outlined above proposes four management models for the activation of eco pastoral system in alpine grassland. It also suggests methods for the selection and performance evaluation of manager to establish a profitable structure. Additionally, the research provides management methods for the conservation of grazing ecology in pastoral ecosystems. Particularly, the adaptation of tools commonly used in South Korean business sector for the selection and performance evaluation of manager within the system of the proposed management models. This aspect is deemed valuable as it aligns these tools with the specific characteristics of eco pastoral system in alpine grassland, contributing not only to the effective implementation of the models but also to the enhancement of the revenue structure.
