  • In the study, we confirmed morphological traits and calculated the Risk Class of 25 mould species, including Tyromyces palustris, through decomposition rate of substrate for characteristic confirmation of injured microorganisms. We received the injured microorganisms in wood and it was pure cultivated. We observed growth traits and decomposition rate of substrate. Also, it allows the calculation of Risk Class to be worried in the case of growth in wooden cultural properties. As a result, Tyromyces palustris, representative of brown-rot, has the characteristics about decomposition rate of substrate - Cellulose ; more active(+++), Lignin ; more active(+++), Xylan ; more active(+++), Starch ; active(++). We classified Tyromcyes palustris as a first Risk Class and as a second Risk Class about Schizophyllum commune et al(9 species, See table 1. We look forward to offering standard data base for evaluating Risk Class as a matter of applying preventive conservation in wooden cultural properties through our study.

  • This study aims to investigate the film performance by physical properties of glue and gelatin in traditional paint(Dancheong). To do this, homemade, commercial glue and gelatin was selected and evaluated water reaction and weatherproof. The result, the highest gel strength, gelatin was better than acrylic acid ester resin, when compared with hygroscopic property and adhesive property. And that was better than in any others, when compared with water-proofing.

  • 1. Metallurgical Properties of Iron artifacts excavated from Yangju-Mountain fortress were studied for the scientific conservation and metallurgical history of ancient Iron artifacts.2. Iron artifacts form Yangju-Mountain fortress were found to be the products of having well-established Carburizing and remelting technique in that period.3. These artifacts seem to be manufactured from very pure ores, because very pure ferrite structure and low impurity.4. Especially evidence of very suitable carburizing technic well-established and usealloying method of Fe-C system on purpose were found.5. Cast iron artifacts were found to be eutectic composition (4.31%) having lowestmelting point in Fe-C system.

  • This study investigated the material properties of UV-curable Resin in order to identify stable materials for use in the restoration of glass cultural properties. Tested samples were based on acrylic UV-curable Resin (SECURE CP-7321®), to which urethane UV-curable Resin (FLGPCL04 Clear®) was added in 10% increments to produce eleven samples. The results showed that all eleven samples had similar properties in terms of refractive index, density, adhesive strength, and anti-yellowing. But the surface hardness and compressive strength were optimal and effective for maintaining the shape of artifacts after restoration treatment when the proportion of urethane resin was in the range of 10-20%. Based on these findings, the mixing sample [acrylic UV-curable Resin(9) : urethane UV-curable Resin(1)] was applied in the conservation treatment of a glass cultural propertie (Hwangbuk 519) excavated from the North Mound of Hwangnamdaechong, Tomb in Gyeongju.

  • The influence of acid rain on the marble cultural properties investigated in two ways : 1) marble samples similar to that of Wongak-sa 10-story pagoda were directly exposed to rain in air at Chongro and Kwanghwamun sites; 2) marble samples under a protective facility were indirectly exposed to rain. The quantity of corrosion products and variations of calcium ion to rain were analyzed. The result shows that the corrosion qantity of the marble samples exposed directly under 1~8 mm rainfall in the Chongno and Kwanghwamun sites were similar, but those were 7.7 times higher than those indoor. Concentration of anions were higher than that of cations among the ion concentration over 40% in the early 1 mm rainfall. Calcium ion was produced over 30%. Because the monuments of marble, limestone and sandstone were affected by acid rain, it may be necessary to establish policies for the conservation on the National Treasures made of these materials.
