Supported liquid membrane process usually is used for recovering or enrichment of valuable metals in the industrial wastewater. But, even if the metals in the wastewater was separated with high chemical selectivity, it cannot be enough concentrated since separation performance of supported liquid membrane (SLM) process is limited by concentration gradient between feed solution and stripping solution. If metal concentration in the stripping solution to be enough low, transport of metal through membrane can be accomplishment constantly. Therefore, Electrodialysis (ED) has been placed after SLM process and the stripping solution of SLM was used as the feed solution for the ED process. Transport of ions in the solutions is successfully performed by ED process. Thus, the metal concentration in the stripping solution does not rise as to stop ion transport. Besides, valuable metals easily are concentrated by ED process for re-use. In this study, effects of operation parameters like initial Cd(II) concentration, HCl concentration in the feed solution of SLM and applied voltage are investigated on separation efficiency, flux and permeability of the both processes. As the feed solution concentration increased, all performance values has increased. When initial concentration of 100 mg/L is used, separation performances (SP) are 55% and 70%, for SLM and consecutive process, respectively. The best HCl concentration in the feed solution of SLM has determined as 2 M, in this conditions SP are 64% and 72%, for SLM and consecutive process, respectively. With increased of applied voltage on ED process, SP of the consecutive process has been raised from 72% to 83%. According to the obtained experimental data, consecutive process has better separation performance than SLM. When the separation performances of both processes were compared for the same operating conditions, it was determined higher the separation efficiency, permeability and flux values of the consecutive process, 8%, 9% and %10.6, respectively. Consequently, the use of the consecutive process increases the performance efficiency of both processes. The consecutive process studied has quite a good chemical separation efficiency, and enrichment capability. Moreover, this process requires few water and energy.

For last 20 years, a number of researches and developments on finite element mesh generation has been carried out and most of them are comported of node generation part and node generation part. However these algorithms are inefficient in mesh veneration process and difficult to control the shape of elements when comparing with the generation of nodes and elements concurrently. In this study, therefore, an algorithm it proposed to generate nodes and elements concurrently for various two-dimensional objects having multiple holes. Inner node generation is performed by choosing three consecutive boundary nodes and comparing them with other close boundary nodes. As soon as inner nodes are determined, element generation is conducted based on the comparison of the distances among the generated inner nodes, three consecutive boundary nodes and other close boundary nodes. the generated element nodes become new boundary nodes for further repeated process. The processes are repeated through out each region until three consecutive boundary nodes finally form a tirangular element.
In this paper, replacement problems for a deteriorating system are considered. In the system under consideration, the successive lifetimes after repair become shorter and shorter, while the consecutive repair times become longer and longer. More specifically, the lifetimes of the system form a nonhomogeneous Poisson process, whereas the consecutive repair times constitute a stochastically increasing geometric process. Optimal replacement policies for the long-run average cost rate and the steady state availability are considered. Also taking the cost and the availability into consideration at the same time, the properties of optimal policies under the Cost Priority Policy and the Availability Priority Policy are obtained.

When a quality inspection process rejects a product unit, consecutive repeated inspections are sometimes conducted for the rejected unit to reduce a false reject possibility. This paper analyzes a special inspection process that allows up to two times of consecutive testing for each product to decrease type I inspection errors. This study uses a Markov chain to model the steps of the inspection process and a product unit's quality states during inspection. Historical inspection results from a company are used as the data for the Markov chain model. Using the Markov chain model and data, this study analyzes the effect of this special inspection rule on the proportion of the final quality levels and scrap rate. The results demonstrate that this inspection process of possible double testing could help reduce unnecessary rejects and consequently decrease material and production costs.

This paper suggests a method of detecting traffic lights for vehicles by combining the HSV(hue saturation value) color model, morphometric characteristics, and location information appearing on consecutive images in daytime. In order to detect the traffic light, the color corresponding to the signal lights should be explored. It is difficult to detect traffic lights among colors of lights from buildings, taillight of cars, leaves, placards, etc. The proposed algorithm searches for the traffic lights from many candidates using morphometric characteristics and location information in consecutive images. The recognition process is divided into three steps. The first step is to detect candidates after converting RGB channel into HSV color model. The second step is to extract the boundaries between the housing of traffic lights and background by exploiting the assumption that the housing has lower brightness than the surrounding background. The last step is to recognize the signal light after eliminating the false candidates using morphometric characteristics and location information appearing on consecutive images. This paper demonstrates successful detection results of traffic lights from various images captured on the city roads.
This paper proposes a selectively cumulative sum(S-CUSUM) control chart for detecting shifts in the process mean. The basic idea of the S-CUSUM chart is to accumulate previous samples selectively in order to increase the sensitivity. The S-CUSUM chart employs a threshold limit to determine whether to accumulate previous samples or not. Consecutive samples with control statistics out of the threshold limit are to be accumulated to calculate a standardized control statistic. If the control statistic falls within the threshold limit, only the next sample is to be used. During the whole sampling process, the S-CUSUM chart produces an 'out-of-control' signal either when any control statistic falls outside the control limit or when L -consecutive control statistics fall outside the threshold limit. The number L is a decision variable and is called a 'control length'. A Markov chain approach is employed to describe the S-CUSUM sampling process. Formulae for the steady state probabilities and the Average Run Length(ARL) during an in-control state are derived in closed forms. Some properties useful for designing statistical parameters are also derived and a statistical design procedure for the S-CUSUM chart is proposed. Comparative studies show that the proposed S-CUSUM chart is uniformly superior to the CUSUM chart or the Exponentially Weighted Moving Average(EWMA) chart with respect to the ARL performance.
In order to treat soil contaminated with high percentages of water and petroleum, the combined microwave and thermal desorption process was studied, which was composed of the consecutive connection of two pre-treatment processes. For the thickness of the contaminated soil layer on the transfer conveyor belt, the optimal total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) removal rate was studied with respect to the duration of microwave exposure in the consecutive process combined with thermal desorption. The TPH removal rate when the contaminated soil layer thickness was 1 cm at 6 kW of microwave power was 80%. The removals rates for 2 and 3 cm soil layer thicknesses were both 70%. Under identical experimental conditions, the TPH removal rate for the microwave pre-treatment, when considering the soil particle size, was over 70%. The lowest TPH removal rate was achieved with a particle diameter of 2.35 mm. For contaminated soil with 30% water content, 6 kW and a thermal desorption temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ were the optimal operational conditions for the removal of THP. However, considering the fuel consumption cost, 4 kW and a thermal desorption temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ would be the most economic conditions.
This paper introduces the new notions of conjunctive and complement choices in process algebra, which reduce both process and system complexities significantly for distributed mobile real-time system during specification and analysis phases. The complement choice implies that two processes make cohesive choices for their synchronous partners at their own choice operations. The conjunctive choice implies choice dependency among consecutive choice operations in a process. The conjunctive choice reduces process complexity exponentially by the degree of the consecutive choice operations. The complement choice also reduces system complexity exponentially by the degree of the synchronous choice operations. Consequently, the reduction method makes the specification and analysis of the systems much easier since the complexity is reduced significantly. This notion is implemented in a process algebra, called ${\delta}$-Calculus. The efficiency and effectiveness are demonstrated with an example in a tool for the algebra, called SAVE, which is developed on ADOxx platform.
This study is to investigate the recurrence possibility of consecutive dry years such as the long dry period around 1900 in the annual rainfall data at Seoul station. The truncation levels, as the criterion for the dry years, are decided such as to make the occurrence of dry years follow the Poissonian distribution, which assures independent occurrence of dry years. For the truncation level of mean-0.5stdv, the occurrence of dry years is found to satisfy the Poissonian distribution weakly with 99% significance level, but for those of mean-0.75stdv and mean-stdv with 95% significance level. For these truncation levels, the long dry period around 1900 is divided into several short consecutive dry years. The Poisson process has then been applied to derive the occurrence probability of consecutive dry years. For the truncation level of mean-0.75stdv or below, the Poisson process was found to reproduce similar occurrence probabilities to the observed. Especially for the lowest truncation level used in the study (mean-stdv), we could see that the occurrence probability of consecutive dry years estimated for the data collected before the long dry period around 1900 was higher that those for the data collected after the long dry period, thus, it could be concluded that the possibility of long dry periods is decreasing recently.cently.

Design Value Engineering (VE) has become an import part of the daily design process since it has been introduced in the construction industry. Design VE is usually conducted in the general and execution design stages respectively. In order to increase the effectiveness of the VE process, the outcome from the general design VE activities should be integrated into execution design. The outcome from the execution design should be used again for construction. In this study, a consecutive VE process model has been presented as a way to improve the current practice of design VE activities in the construction industry. In the presented model, follow-up activities are emphasized to increase values from the life-cycle perspective of a construction project. The model was tested in a case study of an actual design VE process. The result of the study demonstrates that the model can: 1) effectively incorporate owners requirements; 2) assist decision making in selecting better construction; 3) increase the interface between general and execution design stages; and 4) trace the value flow more efficiently. Overall, the study results indicates that a the consecutive VE process model can be effectively applied when construction project are contracted for the life-cycle management of construction projects.
