  • To determine the effect of tenascin on forming periodontal pocket and pseudopocket, the ginival tissues were surgically obtained from the patients with adult periodontitis(10) and non-inflammatory phenytoin-associated gingival hyperplasia(5). The excised tissue specimens were fixed in neutral formalin for $6{\sim}24$ hours, embedded with paraffin, sectioned at 4-6m in thickness, mounted on glass slides coated with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane(Sigma Chemical Co., St. Louis, MO, U.SA.) and immunohistochemically processed by Avidin-Biotin peroxidase complex method for the localization of tenascin, using monoclonal mouse anti-human tenascin antiboday(Chemicon-International Inc., Temecula, CA, U.S.A., 1: 5,000) as the primary antibody. Regardless of periodontal pocket and pseudopocket, tenascin was localized along the connective tissue subjacent to basement membrane of gingival epithelium, and strong positive reactivity was obviously noted in the papillary projections of gingival connective tissue. The results suggest that tenascin may affect the development of papillary projections and the proliferation of epithelial cells.

  • The objectives of this work focus on the differences in responses of paired tendons from different anatomical locations. Tendon specimens were obtained from the hindlimbs of canines and frozen to -70$^{\circ}C$. After being thawed, specimens were mounted in the immersion bath, preloaded to 0.13N, and then subjected to 3% or 4% of the initial length at a strain rate of 5%/sec. It was found that the mechanical responses of anatomically paired tendons were nearly the same within each pair but different between pairs of tendons from different anatomical locations. Although flexor tendons had much larger cross-sectional area than the others, such as peroneus or extensor tendons, the stiffness of the flexor tendons were much lower than the others throughout their stress-strain responses. The nature and causes of these differences in the stiffness are not fully known. However, it is clear that differences in the mechanical response of tendons and other connective tissues are significant to the musculoskeletal performance.

  • Three mature layer chickens from a farm in which chickens showed green diarrhea, cyanosis, lethargy, loss of appetite were pathologically examined. Grossly, multiple variable sized caseous nodules were detected in the liver, intestinal serosa and mesentery. In addition, parathypoid nodules in the liver and fibrous serositis on the several peritoneal organs and tissues were noticed. One of spleens had multiple infarction areas. Histologically caseous nodules consisted of central caseous core and peripheral epithelioid cells overlying the fibrous connective tissue. Multinucleated giant cells were scattered between the epithelioid cells and fibrous connective tissue. In these nodules Gram negative cocobacilus bacterial colonies were present, whereas Periodic Schiff reaction and Ziehl-Neelsen stain detected neither fungi nor acid fast bacteria. From these results multiple granulomas might be induced by Escherichia coli. In addition, severe Ascafdiodf and Salmonellosis were coinfected in these chickens.

  • This paper dealt with the macroscopical and histopathological observations on the polycystic kidney occurred in a Korean native calf aged about a year. The results summarized are as follows: 1. In macroscopical findings, numerous cysts in the bilateral kidneys were seen under the renal capsule, and the cysts were various in size and clear or cloudy in their contents. The cysts in the inner area of the renal cortex were smaller than those of the outer area of the renal cortex in size and in number. 2. In microscopical findings, marked dilatations of Bowman's spaces and convoluted tubules were prominant feature. Numerous cysts with or without eosinophilic materials were contained atrophic glomerulus. prolferation of fibrous connective tissue, atrophy of convoluted tubules were also observed. Inner walls of the cysts were surrounded by cuboidal cells, sguamous cells or fibrous connective tissue. 3. This case was regarded as congenital polycystic kidney belonged to type III of Osathanondh and Potter.

  • Increasing of the use nonlinear power electronics equipments, power conditioning systems have been researched and developed for many years to compensate the harmonic disturbances and the reactive power. The main function of power conditioning systems is to reduce harmonic distortions, since extensive surveys quantify the problems associated with electric networks haying non-linear loads. The main function of power conditioner compensates the current instead of the voltage. Therefore the inverter used in power conditioner ismostley current controlled type. In this paper, the proposed current control algorithm is analyzed and discussed about how to design the controller which can apply power conditioning operation for grid-connective PV power system. And also proposed control system. To verify the proposed current control algorithm, a comprehensive evaluation with theoretical analysis, simulation results is presented.

  • The hereditary integral form of a quasi-linear viscoelastic law has been employed. Four new concepts have been employed: 1. a reduced relaxation function with a non-linear exponential function of time, 2. an inverse method to determine the scale factor of the elastic response, 3. an instant elastic recovery strain during unloading, and 4. the results of a constitutive model for cyclic tests may be a function of the Heavyside class. These concepts have been supported by agreement between measured and predicted responses of soft connective tissue to three types of multiple cyclic tests which include rest periods of no extension and alternations between different strain levels. Such agreement has not been attained in the previous studies. Chun and Hubbard (2001) is our companion experimental analysis paper.

  • Proteolytic enzymes and ginger extract were effective on tenderising M. pectoralis profundus, resulting in higher collagen solubility, a decrease of melting denaturation temperature and WBSF compared with the control. Comparing all treatments, bromelain treatment showed to be higher for collagen solubility than other treatments, but no significant differences in onset and melting denaturation temperature of intramuscular connective tissue were found. These corresponded to WBSF results. The present study indicates that ginger extract might be effectively able to be utilised in pilot level as better alternatives to bromelain and papain for tenderisation of tough meat, such as cull cow and beef cuts with many collagen.

  • A mucogingival grafting procedure has been developed to cover denuded root surfaces. This procedures need to connective tissue, so many clinician open the trap door to palatal side of the patient. In this study, where palatal pocketing was present, pocket elimination was performed, and the tissue normally discarded after thinning of the palatal flap was used as a grafting material. The esthetics in recipient site, both color match and tissue contour were acceptable to the patient in this case.

  • Purpose: The aim of augmentation of the alveolar ridge is to restore absorbed alveolar ridges for future implant site or esthetic prosthodontic restoration. The present clinical report describes the anterior maxillary augmentation cases using a soft tissue rotated palatal flap, and considers various problems of before and after surgery. Method: First & second patients were treated by vascularized interpositional periosteal-connective tissue(VIP-CT) flap for horizontal soft tissue augmentation. Especially second patient was progressed with bone grafting at the same time. Third patient was treated by the same flap with bone graft and implant placement in single tooth missing premaxillary area. Result: The obtained horizontal augmentation width measured $0.5{\sim}2.7\;mm$. Conclusion: This technique constitutes a viable approach for augmentation the anterior sector of alveolar ridge with the placement of dental implants. But it needs correct diagnosis preparation and careful surgery skill.
