To gain insight into the wind-induced safety concerns associated with attached tower cranes during the construction of super-tall buildings, a 606 m level frame-core tube super-tall building is selected to investigate the wind-induced vibration response and fragility of an outer-attached tower crane at all stages of construction. The wind velocity time history samples are artificially generated and used to perform dynamic response analyses of the crane to observe the effects of wind velocity and wind direction under its working and non-working resting state. The adverse effects of the relative displacement response at different connection supports are also identified. The wind-resistant fragility curves of the crane are obtained by introducing the concept of incremental dynamic analysis. The results from the investigation indicate that a large relative displacement between the supports can substantially amplify the response of the crane at high levels. Such an effect becomes more serious when the lifting arm is perpendicular to the plane of the connection supports. The flexibility of super-tall buildings should be considered in the design of outer-attached tower cranes, especially for anchorage systems. Fragility analysis can be used to specify the maximum appropriate height of the tower crane for each performance level.
With HTTP/1.0, a single request means a single HTTP connection so that the granular unit of dispatching is the same as real load. But with persistent HTTP connection, multiple requests may arrive on a single TCP connection. Therefore, a scheme that dispatches load at the granularity of individual requests constrains the feasible dispatching policies In this paper we propose a new connection dispatching polity for supporting HTTP/1.1 persistent connections in cluster-based Web servers. When the request of a base html file arrives, the dispatcher gets the subsequent load arriving on that connection using the embedded objects information. After the dispatcher stores the load information in Load Table, the dispatcher employs the connection aging strategy on live persistent connections on the passage of time. The results of simulation show about $1.7\%\~16.8\%$ improved average response time compared to existing WLC algorithm.

The use of database system in application increases day by day. This brought out the DBMS interconnection access problem with rapid increase of the user. To solve these database connection problem, database connection pool has been presented. However, there is much to be desired on user's interconnection access. To improve previous connection pool architecture, we have designed the sub connection pool besides main connection pool in this paper. We defined connection pool broker to manage both main and sub connection pool connection. When main connection pool reached its limitation, connection pool broker transfers a connection from a main connection pool to a sub connection pool. When the interconnection access user increased rapidly, we have proved that the suggested sub pool architecture is more effective on response time by comparing it with other existing DBMS connection pool architectures using simulation.
In this paper we investigate the connection between the continuous-time FIR(finite impulse response) filter and the corresponding discrtet-time FIR filter with fast sampling. The interconnection is established by formulating the discrete-time case using delta operators which has superior numerical properties in discretizing prcedure. The aim of this paper is to present a unified FIR filter using the .delta.-operator and to show that, as sampling interval .DELYA. aperator to zero, the results of this filter converge to the corresponding continuous-time reuslts, which implies that the unified FIR filter unifies continous-time FIR filter and discrtet-time FIR filter.

This paper describes the simulation study, conducted on the propagation characteristics of AE signal in the connection of GIS. In the high voltage and large power system, the equipment with SF$\sub$6/ gas insulation which consists of the component part enclosed in the compressed gas has less affected by the environment than with air insulation. When the breakdown in the electric installation occurs, it takes much time to repair them though. Therefore it is very important to diagnose the propagation characteristics of AE signal in the GIS. So, in this investigation, we make a plane model of 362 kV GIS and modal and harmonic analysis to observe the vibro-acoustic property. Through the result of the analysis, we can make a further understanding on the vibro-acoustic characteristics of AE singnal in the connection of GIS.

In current seismic design practice, the response modification factor (R-factor) is used as a factor to reduce the elastic base shear demand to the design force level. As is well-known, the R-factor is a committee-consensus factor and, as such, highly qualitative and empirical. The relationship between the R-factor and the connection rotation capacity available in a particular structural system has remained a missing link. In this paper, a rational procedure to evaluate the R-factor is proposed. To this end, the relationship between the available connection rotation capacity and the R-factor is defined and quantified using nonlinear pushover analysis. An RRS steel frame designed according to IBC 2000 was used to illustrate and verify the proposed procedure. Nonlinear time history analysis results indicated that the R-factor definition proposed in this study is generally conservative from design perspective.
This paper presents experimental and numerical studies on the seismic responses of the steel cabinet facility considering the nonlinear behavior of connections and site-response effects. Three finite element (FE) models with differences of type and number of connections between steel plates and frame members have been developed to demonstrate adequately dynamic responses of structures. The screw connections with the bilinear force-deformation relationship are proposed to represent the inelastic behavior of the cabinet. The experiment is carried out to provide a verification with improved FE models. It shows that the natural frequencies of the cabinet are sensitive to the plate and frame connectors. The screw connections reduce the free vibration compared to the weld one, with decreased values of 2.82% and 4.87% corresponding to front-to-back and side-to-side directions. Additionally, the seismic responses are investigated for various geological configurations. Input time histories are generated so that their response spectrums are compatible with a required response spectrum via the time-domain spectral matching. The results indicate that both site effects and nonlinear behavior of connections affect greatly on the seismic response of structures.

Recently, the research focused on fuel cell hybrid vehicles (FCHVs) is becoming an attractive solution due to environmental pollution generated by fossil fuel vehicles. The proper energy control strategy will result in extending the fuel cell lifetime, increasing of energy efficiency and an improvement of vehicle performance. Battery state of charge (SoC) is an important quantity and the estimation of the SoC is also the basis of the energy control strategy for hybrid electric vehicles. Estimating the battery's SoC is complicated by the fact that the SoC depends on many factors such as temperature, battery capacitance and internal resistance. In this paper, battery charging time estimated by SoC is studied by using the speed response and current response. Hybrid system is consist of a fuel cell unit and a battery in series connection. For experiment, speed response of vehicle and current response of battery were determined under different state of charge. As the results, the optimal battery charging time can be estimated. Current response time was faster than RPM response time at low speed and vice versa at high speed.
The paper presents a finite element model for studying timber-concrete composite beams under long-term loading. Both deformability of connection system and rheological behaviour of concrete, timber and connection are fully considered. The creep of component materials and the influence of moisture content on the creep of timber and connection, the so-called "mechano-sorptive" effect, are evaluated by means of accurate linear models. The solution is obtained by applying an effective step-by-step procedure in time, which does not require storing the whole stress history in some points in order to account for the creep behaviour. Hence the proposed method is suitable for analyses of composite beams subjected to complex loading and thermo-hygrometric histories. The possibility to accurately predict the long-term response is then shown by comparing numerical and experimental results for different tests.
This paper presents a novel analytical formulation for the analysis of composite beams with partial shear interaction stiffened by a bolted longitudinal plate accounting for time effects, such as creep and shrinkage. The model is derived by means of the principle of virtual work using a displacement-based formulation. The particularity of this approach is that the partial interaction behaviour is assumed to exist between the top slab and the joist as well as between the joist and the bolted longitudinal stiffening plate, therefore leading to a three-layered structural representation. For this purpose, a novel finite element is derived and presented. Its accuracy is validated based on short-and long-term analyses for the particular cases of full shear interaction and partial shear interaction of two layers for which solutions in closed form are available in the literature. A parametric study is carried out considering different stiffening arrangements to investigate the influence on the short-and long-term behaviour of the composite beam of the shear connection stiffness between the concrete slab and the steel joist, the stiffness of the plate-to-beam connection, the properties of the longitudinal plate and the concrete properties. The values of the deflection obtained from the finite element simulations are compared against those calculated using the effective flexural rigidity in accordance with EC5 guidelines for the behaviour of elastic multi-layered beams with flexible connection and it is shown how the latter well predicts the structural response. The proposed numerical examples highlight the ease of use of the proposed approach in determining the effectiveness of different retrofitting solutions at service conditions.
