Much time has passed since Korea's expressway congestion-threshold speed was revised in 2011. In the meantime, various expressway environments have changed owing to improved performance of vehicles, expanded operations of transport competition (i.e., the KTX), and increased speed limits along some expressway sections. In addition, the speed that expressway users expect to travel at is also increasing. Therefore, through a survey, this study investigates expressway users' perceptions of congestion, and reviews the adjustment of the expressway speed congestion threshold by analyzing expressway traffic flow. One result of the survey confirms that the threshold speed expressway users consider to be congestion has slightly increased. Analyzing traffic and speed data through a K-means algorithm found that the threshold speed for congestion is 60 km/h. In addition, assuming the congestion threshold speed increase from 40 km/h to 50 km/h and 60 km/h, frequently congested expressway sections are identified, determining that 50 km/h is appropriate as a congestion threshold for proper expressway mobility management.

In this paper, we propose a new technique of estimating tail of steady-state queue length distribution; Pr(Q>q), fo ATM multiplexer. Pr(Q>q) is a fundamental measure of network congestion. Assessing Pr(Q>q) properly is crucial for design and control of ATM networks. Data traffic pattern of high-speed networks is highly correlated and bursty. Estimating Pr(Q>q) is very difficult because of correlation and burstiness. We estimate entropy(rate-function) using large deviation principles and threshold bootstrap. Simulation studies are conducted to compare the performance of an existing method and our new method.
PURPOSES : In this study, analyze the characteristics of IOC indicator 'threshold' which is needed when evaluating the traffic signal operation status with ESPRESSO in various grade road traffic environment of Seoul metropolitan city and derive suggested value to use in field practice. METHODS : Using the computerized database program (Postgresql), we extracted data with regional characteristics (Arterial, Collector road) and temporal characteristics (peak hour, non-peak hour). Analysis of variance and Duncan's validation were performed using statistical analysis program (SPSS) to confirm whether the extracted data contains statistical significance. RESULTS : The analysis period of the main and secondary arterial roads was confirmed to be suitable from 14 days to 60 days. For the arterial, it is suggested to use 20 km/h as the critical speed for PM peak hour and weekly non peak hour. It is suggested to use 25 km/h as the critical speed for AM peak hour and night non peak hour. As for the collector road, it is suggested to use 20 km/h as the critical speed for PM peak hour and weekly non peak hour. It is suggested to use 30 km/h as the critical speed for AM peak hour and night non peak hour. CONCLUSIONS : It is meaningful from a methodological point of view that it is possible to make a reasonable comparative analysis on the signal intersection pre-post analysis when the signal operation DB is renewed by breaking the existing traffic signal operation evaluation method.
Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11) uses traditional TCP for reliable data transmission, But it brings the unintentional packet loss which is not congestion loss caused by handoff, interference, and fading in wireless LAN. In wireless LAN, TCP experiences performance degradation because it consumes that the cause of packet loss is congestion, and it decrease the sending rate by activating congestion control algorithm. This paper analyzes that correlation of throughput and buffer size for wireless buffer tuning. We find MBT (Maximum Buffer Threshold) which does not increase the throughput through the analysis, For calculation of MBT, we experiment the throughput by using high volume music data which is creased by real-time performance of piano. The experiment results is shown that buffer tuing based on MBT shows 20.3%, 21.4%, and 45.4% throughput improvement under 5ms RTT, 10ms RTT, and 20ms RTT, respectively, comparing with the throughput of operation system default buffer size, In addition, we describe that The setting of TCP buffer size by exceeding MBT does not have an effect on the performance of TCP.
In order to understand and manage traffic flows in urban areas in the past, a variety of traffic engineering theoretical indicators such as intersection lag and highway speed have been applied. However, these theories and indicators have been developed under the constraints of traffic engineering research before the construction of intelligent transportation system. Since the ATIS system currently exists, it is necessary to introduce a separate traffic engineering technology that utilizes the data. In this paper, it is aimed to confirm whether it is applicable to intermittent flow (approach road, intersection, control group, main road axis) by using 'congestion intensity' which is already used in traffic engineering field. The results of this study are as follows: (1) The traffic signal improvement effect of urban road access road, intersection road, control group, Two verification studies were performed to verify the derived congestion intensity index. (1) verification of congestion intensity threshold value analysis and (2) crossing improvement using the congestion intensity. Through verification, it was confirmed that it is possible to apply the congestion intensity in the inter - city intermittent flow using the 5 - minute unit speed data so as to be able to escape from the existing traffic signal operation management which is past passive and manpower limit.

Recently, we are concerned with effective service according as the demand increase for high speed data service. We can use high speed transfer and multiple traffic service on the ATM networks, so we concentrate on preventive-control method rather than reactive-control one. But it is possible to have low QoS and traffic congestion due to unpredictable traffic and burst traffic. Specially, ATM Forum has discussed to standardization of traffic management of ABR(Available Bit Rate) service. Because ABR traffic controls the flow of traffic using the feedback information and the current status information of cell, it allocates bandwidth systematically and dynamically to the user. In this paper, we propose a new Rate-based flow control scheme which adapted double threshold buffer idea. The double threshold buffer controls the traffic control by establishing two threshold in buffer.

DQDB(Distributed Queue Dual Bus) protocol, the IEEE 802.6 standard protocol for metropolitan area networks, does not fully take advantage of the capabilities of dual bus architecture. Although fairness in bandwidth distribution among nodes is improved when using so called the bandwidth balancing mechanism, the protocol requires a considerable amount of time to adjust to changes in the network load. Additionally, the bandwidth balancing mechanism leaves a portion of the available bandwidth unused. In a high-speed backbone network, each node may act as a bridge/ router which connects several LANs as well as hosts. However, Because the existence of high speed LANs becomes commonplace, the congestionmay occur on a node because of the limitation on access rate to the backbone network and on available buffer spaces. to release the congestion, it is desirable to install some congestion control algorithm in the node. In this paper, we propose an efficient congestion control mechanism and fair and waster-free MAC protocol for dual bus network. In this protocol, all the buffers in the network can be shared in such a way that the transmission rate of each node can be set proportional to its load. In other words, a heavily loaded node obtains a larger bandwidth to send the sements so tht the congestion can be avoided while the uncongested nodes slow down their transmission rate and store the incoming segments into thier buffers. this implies that the buffers on the network can be shared dynamically. Simulation results show that the proposed probotol significantly reduces the segment queueing delay of a heavily loaded node and segment loss rate when compared with original DQDB. And it enables an attractive high throughput in the backbone network. Because in the proposed protocol, each node does not send a requet by the segment but send a request one time in the meaning of having segments, the frequency of sending requests is very low in the proposed protocol. so the proposed protocol signigificantly reduces the segment queuing dely. and In the proposed protocol, each node uses bandwidth in proportion to its load. so In case of limitation of available buffer spaces, the proposed protocol reduces segment loss rate of a heavily loaded node. Bandwidth balancing DQDB requires the wastage of bandwidth to be fair bandwidth allocation. But the proposed DQDB MAC protocol enables fair bandwidth without wasting bandwidth by using bandwidth one after another among active nodes.
In this paper, we propose a simple algorithm to adaptively adjust the value of dupthresh, the duplicate acknowledgement threshold that triggers the transmission control protocol (TCP) fast retransmission algorithm, to improve the TCP performance in a network environment with persistent packet reordering. Our algorithm uses an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) and the mean deviation of the lengths of the reordering events reported by a TCP receiver with the duplicate selective acknowledgement (DSACK) extension to estimate the value of dupthresh. We also apply an adaptive upper bound on dupthresh to avoid the retransmission timeout events. In addition, our algorithm includes a mechanism to exponentially reduce dupthresh when the retransmission timer expires. With these mechanisms, our algorithm is capable of converging to and staying at a near-optimal interval of dupthresh. The simulation results show that our algorithm improves the protocol performance significantly with minimal overheads, achieving a greater throughput and fewer false fast retransmissions.

This paper presents an analysis of the instability phenomenon on motorways, with the aim of arriving at the definition of a control strategy suitable for keeping the flow stable. By using some results of the motorway reliability theory, a relationship and some flow characteristics is obtained, which shows that the existence of a reliability threshold critical for flow stability. The macroscopic flow characteristics corresponding to this threshold are very different in different situations, so that this control of flow stability requires the analysis of speed and density microscopic process surveyed on a cross section of the motorway carriage ways to be controlled. A method is presented, based on integrated moving average(IMA) analysis in real time of these processes, by which it is possible to detect the approach of instability before its effects become manifest, and to single out the proper control strategy in different situations.

무선 통신 기술의 발전과 함께 802.11n과 같은 광대역 네트워크 인프라의 구축이 확대됨에 따라, 이에 적합한 높은 성능을 낼 수 있는 전송 계층의 프로토콜이 필요하다. 유선 환경에서 개발된 TCP(Transmission Control Protocol)는 현재 가장 널리 이용하는 전송 프로토콜이다. TCP VEST(TCP Vegas-based Estimator with Slowstart Threshold)를 제안한다.
