Method: The subjects of this study consisted of 141 nurses employed at ICU and 201 nurses employed at general ward, who were recruited from 5 university hospitals with 500 beds located in Seoul and Gyeonggido. The instruments included role conflict scale developed by Kim and Park(1995) and job satisfaction scale translated and modified by Lee(1996). The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 10.0 program for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Result: In the two groups, there was a inverse correlation between role conflict and job satisfaction. In ICU, nurses' role conflict levels differed significantly depending on religion(p<.05), total experience(p<.05), scheduled to work as a nurse(p<.05). And nurses' job satisfaction levels differed significantly depending on total experience(p<.05), working period in current post(p<.001), scheduled to work as a nurse(p<.001), motive of choosing the nursing science(p<.01), and job satisfaction(p<.001). In general ward, nurses' job satisfaction levels differed significantly depending on marital status(p<.05), educational level(p<.01), total experience(p<.001), motive of choosing the nursing science(p<.01), and job satisfaction(p<.001). Conclusion: Summing up, the nurses at ICU showed higher level of role conflict than the nurses ay general ward. Therefore, it is needed to decrease the level of nurse's role conflict and improve their job satisfaction in ICU.

  • This study examined the case of women's conflict experience in small and medium size enterprises. Although the number of women working in business organizations is rapidly growing in Korea, discourse about them is still scarce. Some discourse about them focuses only on the productivity and inequality aspects within the organizations. Therefore, we need to examine their organizational lives through a more dynamic and performance based perspective. Especially, because conflicts experience by women within business organizations involve a variety of organizational interactions, they reveal the vivid reality with which working women face today. The existing conflict research studies focused on communication or interpersonal relationship are limited by the fact that they have primarily dealt with the variables such as conflict management styles. However, conflict research needs a more specific and wholistic interpretation because conflicts usually depend on their contexts and interaction dynamics. Therefore, the phenomenological methodology was employed as a more appropriate method for the current conflict study. Results shows that the two themes were identified regarding the conflict content. The first and second themes were the unfair situations and the hierarchical rank respectively. The three themes were identified regarding the attitudes about conflicts. They were the passive stance toward conflicts, the recognition of the gender difference, and the acknowledgement of the importance of the relational aspect respectively. Finally, three more themes were identified regarding the conflict management styles. The first, second and third themes were the passive responding, the aggressive responding and the positive conflict management respectively. In addition, the implications of the results and the suggestions for future studies were made.

  • In this paper the relationship of various types of work-family interaction (i.e. work-family conflict, and work-family enhancement) with individual, family, and employment characteristics was explored in a sample of 1000 married employed women with preschool children. By using cluster analysis, we tried to reveal whether specific combinations of the various dimensions of work-family interaction (WFI) exist. Our results showed that employed women did not simply experience work-family conflict or work-family enhancement, but that they should be classified in four distinct clusters: (1) 189 employed women experienced primarily work-family enhancement(i.e. positive WFI); (2) 289 employed women experienced primarily work-family conflict(i. e. negative WFI); (3) 338 employed women experienced work-family conflict and work-family enhancement simultaneously(i. e. both positive and negative WIF); (4) 184 employed women did not experience either work-family conflict or work-family enhancement(i. e. low WFI). Results further showed that the emerging WFI-clusters appeared to have distinct profiles with respect to individual, family and employment characteristics.

  • Officers and noncommissioned officers are the leaders of the military. Every year, more than 5,000 first-time officers are commissioned and perform their duties in various parts of the country. There is a conflict between officers and noncommissioned officers over the efficiency of experience. First-time officers are experiencing experience and a loss of authority from older noncommissioned officers and a failure to obey orders. Noncommissioned officers have complaints about first-time officers who want to direct only by class.Conflicts between officers and noncommissioned officers have existed in the past, but some first-time officers were resolved when they gained experience. Recently, the chief executives protested against the Chief of Staff's words and actions. I would like to study the cause of conflict between officers and noncommissioned officers and suggest solutions.

  • The purpose of this study was to prepare basic data to set the support direction for low-income households in a socioeconomic crisis situation. The study examined the effect of socioeconomic deprivation experience on the longitudinal changes in family conflict and family relationship satisfaction of low-income households. Using five-year data from the 10th to 14th sessions of the Korean Welfare Panel, we examined the longitudinal changes in family conflict and family relationship satisfaction, and the effect of socioeconomic deprivation experience from the reponses of 803 low-income households. We found that the family conflict of low-income households decreased to a weak level with the change of time, and the rate of change in family relationship satisfaction was not meaningful. In the case of families who experienced early socioeconomic deprivation, their initial value of family conflict was higher than that of inexperienced households, and the rate of change was not significant. The results of this study show that when low-income households experience socioeconomic deprivation, they feel psychological pressure and an increase in family anxiety, resulting in high family conflict and low family relationship satisfaction. On the basis of the study results, we recommend extending economic and social assistance to low-income households in the current socioeconomic crisis. The state is also encouraged to help families manage conflicts on their own and resolve problems.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the factors affecting container terminal worker's recovery experience from job stress. Methods: The subjects were 299 workers from one S dock in P city. Data were collected from April 5 to June 5, 2015 and analyzed by SPSS/WIN 18.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, $Sheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and logistic regression. Results: The mean scores of job stress, ego-resilience, and recovery experience from job stress were 47.18, 46.90, and 49.17 respectively. Recovery experience according to the general characteristics showed significant correlation between daily exercise. There was a significant negative correlation between recovery experience and job stress, and a positive correlation between recovery experience and ego-resilience. Recovery experience was 2.54 times higher for a high ego-resilience group than for a low ego-resilience group, and the group that exercised was 2.25 times higher, than the non-exercising group. The group with a low level of interpersonal conflict was 1.97 times higher, than a group with a high level of interpersonal conflict. Conclusion: Based on this study, intervention programs to increase ego-resilience, decrease interpersonal conflict, and encourage over 30-minute-daily exercise for in container terminal workers should be developed to improve recovery experience of job stress.

  • Objective: The present study aimed to explore the experiences of mothers who have abandoned their additional birth plans since their first child was born. Methods: During in-depth interviews, mothers were asked to recall their own experiences of motherhood. The interview data were analyzed using the grounded theory. Results: The central phenomenon was 'The burden of raising a child is too heavy for mothers to carry alone.' The causal conditions were 'First experience: Unpredictable life', 'Physical and psychological difficulty', and 'Spouse's absence.' The contextual conditions were 'Expectations and reality of parenting' and 'Workplace conditions.' The mothers used interaction strategies of 'Defusing conflict only on a surface level: Giving up', 'Reliance on grandmothers', and 'Downgrading career aspirations.' These strategies were mediated by intervening conditions, 'Stereotypes and experiences of non-family nanny', 'Child's development', and 'Family conflict.' The results were 'Endless guilt', 'Ambivalence between independence versus interdependence' and 'Unfairness: Why only me?' Finally, the process of psychological conflict was identified to account for the steps leading mothers to give up on their birth plans. Conclusion/Implications: During the first experience of motherhood, mothers' conflict gets escalated despite their struggles. These experiences might discourage their additional birth plans. These results provide implications for policies to increase fertility rates.

  • Purpose : This study examined the factors influencing posttraumatic and conflict management styles for nursing performance in intensive care units (ICUs). Methods : In this study, 250 nurses from eight general hospitals in three cities participated. Structured self-report questionnaires were used to collect data on posttraumatic, conflict management styles, and nursing performance. Finally, the data were analyzed by SAS 9.3 program. Results : The mean of total sum scores was 31.29, and the high risk of posttraumatic symptoms was 61.2%. It was noted that nursing performance is significantly correlated with collaboration, compromise, accommodation styles, and intrusion. Collaboration styles (${\beta}=0.39$, p<.001) and hyperarousal (${\beta}=-0.22$, p=.050), ICU experience below 1 year (${\beta}=-0.21$, p=.027) and that of 5-10 years (${\beta}=-0.19$, p=.049), and compromise style (${\beta}=0.16$, p=.049) were found to be the factors influencing nursing performance with 35.9% explanatory power value of regression model. Conclusions : The results of the study reveal that conflict management styles, hyperarousal, and ICU experience are factors predicting the successful performance of ICUs. These findings emphasize the need of developing interventions to reduce stress symptoms and conflicts in ICUs.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of family of origin experiences on self-esteem and marital conflict among married men and women. For this purpose, a survey was conducted using self-administered questionnaires with 311 married men and women. The results of the study were as follows: First, men and women's family of origin experience(family of origin health, parents' marital conflict, triangulation) were correlated with self-esteem and marital conflict. Second, results of multiple regression analyses showed that men and women's self-esteem was most powerful predictors of marital conflict. Finally, men's family of origin experiences(family of origin health, parents' marital conflict, triangulation) had a direct effect on marital conflict, and family of origin health had a indirect effect through men's self-esteem on marital conflict. Women's parents' marital conflict, triangulation had a direct effect on marital conflict, and family of origin health had a indirect effect through women's self-esteem on marital conflict.
