Cyclic testing of short-length buckling-restrained braces with detachable casings

  • Buckling-restrained braced frames (BRBFs) are commonly used as lateral force-resisting systems in the structures located in seismic-active regions. The nearly symmetric load-displacement behavior of buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) helps in dissipating the input seismic energy through metallic hysteresis. In this study, an experimental investigation has been conducted on the reduced-core length BRB (RCLBRB) specimens to evaluate their hysteretic and overall performance under gradually increased cyclic loading. Detachable casings are used for the concrete providing confinement to the steel core segments of all test specimens to facilitate the post-earthquake inspection of steel core elements. The influence of variable core clearance and the local detailing of casings on the cyclic performance of RCLBRB specimens has been studied. The RCLBRB specimen with the detachable casing system and a smaller core clearance at the end zone as compared to the central region exhibited excellent hysteretic behavior without any slip. Such RCLBRB showed balanced higher yielding deformed configuration up to a core strain of 4.2% without any premature instability. The strength-adjustment factors for the RCLBRB specimens are found to be nearly same as that of the conventional BRBs as noticed in the past studies. Simple expressions have been proposed based on the regression analysis to estimate the strength-adjustment factors and equivalent damping potential of the RCLBRB specimens.

  • LoRa 통신 프로토콜은 근 10년간 사물인터넷 네트워크를 위한 유망 기술로 평가받고 있다. 이론적으로, 처프 대역 확산 프로토콜을 사용하여 장거리 통신에 강인하고 하나의 물리 채널에 서로 직교하는 여러 논리채널을 제공할 수 있으며 중첩 성형의 망구조로 공간 다양성을 활용할 수 있는 것이 대표적 이유이다. 최근의 몇몇 연구들은 이러한 특징 중 논리 채널 사이의 불완전한 실질적인 준직교성을 지적한다. 그러나 직교하는 논리 채널을 형성하는 것은 확산 인자와 대역폭 두 가지 설정 인자임에도 불구하고 대부분의 연구는 확산 인자만을 요소로 직교성을 평가한다. 본 연구에서는 두 설정 인자를 모두 고려하여 논리 채널 사이의 준 직교성을 정리한다. 또한, 이에 따른 논리 채널 사이의 간섭으로 인해 변화하는 통신 품질을 정리한다.

성인 여성의 손톱 유형 분류 (Classification of Adult Women's Fingernail Type)

  • This study improves the dimensional suitability of nail tip products by reviewing the type of fingernail as seen among adult women in Korea. Subjects were 147 adult women ranging from age 20 to 40. Direct fingernails measurements were made using digital Vernier calipers and a curvature gauge. Data on various fingernail shapes were collected through indirect measurements using photography to reveal the shape characteristics of each fingernail types. In this sense, data were analyzed by statistical methods with the use of factor analysis. There were various factors considered to classify extracted fingernail types such as five factors (for the thumb), four factors (index, middle, and little fingers), and three factors (for the ring finger). The cluster analysis resulted in three types. Type 1 is a 'Square' shape characterized with wide fingernails, low height, flat, and low curvature of the cuticle line. Type 2 is 'U-round' shape characterized with narrow fingernails, high height, convex, and the highest curvature of the cuticle line. Type 3 is a 'Round' shape in which the fingernails are wide, high in height, convex, and characterized with a medium curvature of the cuticle line. The results are useful for companies that develop the free edge shape of fingernails for consumer products. The measured values of fingernail can be applied to the shape and lake setting of the nail tip product, depending on type of fingernail.

사회적 자본과 구축환경 질문지 개발 및 타당화 연구 (Development and Validation of the Social Capital and Built Environment Questionnaires)

  • Objective : The objective of this study is to create questionnaires for Social Capital (SCQ) and Built Environment (BEQ) that can be utilized as protective factors for mental health. Methods : A total of 426 adults aged 18 or older, residing in 'D' Metropolitan City in Korea, were included as subjects in this study. Data for subjective evaluation of social capital and built environment were collected through an online survey. Various statistical analyses, such as reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and correlation analysis between PHQ-9 and GAD-7, were conducted. Results : The Cronbach's α values for SCQ and BEQ were 0.94 and 0.90, respectively, indicating good reliability. Exploratory factor analysis revealed that SCQ consisted of 4 factors, explaining a total of 71.91%, while BEQ consisted of 4 factors, explaining a total of 62.18%. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that both questionnaires had a reasonable configuration, with TLI, CFI, and RMSEA values at an appropriate level. Additionally, both SCQ and BEQ showed negative correlations with depression and anxiety. Conclusion : This study has developed a tool for measuring social capital and the built environment in Korea. It also demonstrates the reliability and validity of this questionnaire. The use of this tool could greatly support preventive mental health interventions within the community.

법랑질 변연으로 이루어진 복합레진 수복물의 체적과 C-factor가 미세누출에 미치는 영향 (THE EFFECT OF C-FACTOR AND VOLUME ON MICROLEAKAGE OF COMPOSITE RESIN RESTORATIONS WITH ENAMEL MARGINS)

  • 와동벽과 복합레진 수복물이 접착될 때, 복합레진의 치질에 대한 접착력과 레진 자체의 중합 시 발생하는 수축응력이 상충하게 된다. 이러한 수축응력의 크기는 와동의 형태요소 (C-factor)와 수복물의 체적에 영향을 받는다. 이에 본 실험에서는 단일 병 접착제를 사용한 복합레진 수복 시 법랑질 변연만으로 이루어진 와동의 C-factor와 체적이 미세누출에 미치는 영향을 미세 전류 측정법을 이용하여 정량적으로 분석하고 평가하였다. 연마기를 이용하여 40개의 건전한 우치 협면에 편평한 법랑질 표면을 형성하였다. 각각 10개의 치아에 원통형 와동을 형성하였으며, 와동의 깊이와 직경에 따라 4개 군으로 분류하였다 ( I군: 1.5 mm ${\times}$ 2.0 mm, II군: 1.5 mm ${\times}$ 6.0 mm, III군: 2.0 mm ${\times}$ 1.72 mm, IV군: 2.0 mm ${\times}$ 5.23 mm). 각기 와동의 C-factor는 4, 5.62, 2, 2.54를 보였다. 산 부식 후 단일 병 접착제인 BC Plus$^{TM}$ (Vericom, Korea)를 제조사의 지시에 따라 적용하고, 미세혼합형 복합레진인 Denfil$^{TM}$(Vericom)을 충전하였다. 40초씩 광중합 후 치아를 실온에서 증류수에 24시간 동안 보관한 다음, Sof-Lex system을 이용하여 연마하였고, 5$^{\circ}$C와 55$^{\circ}$C범위에서 500회 열순환을 시행하였다. 이후 미세전류 측정을 위해 치수강 내에 증류수를 채우고 치근단공을 통해 0.018 stainless wire를 삽입한 후 sticky wax로 근첨부를 밀봉하였으며, nail varnish를 수복물의 변연에서 1 mm를 제외한 전체 치면에 2회 도포하였다. 미세누출의 측정은 전기 화학적 방법을 이용하여 측정하였으며, 통계적 유의성은 95% 유의 수준의 Two-way ANOVA로 검증하여 , 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 복합레진 수복물의 체적이 적은 것이 큰 것에 비해 미세누출도가 적었으나, 통계학적으로 유의한 차이는 없었다. 2. 와동 형태와 연관된 C-factor는 복합레진 수복물의 미세누출도에 영향을 주지 않았다. 법랑질 변연을 갖는 와동에 단일 병 접착제를 사용한 본 실험에서는 복합레진의 중합 시 발생하는 수축응력에 영향을 미치는 것으로 알려진 수복물의 체적과 C-factor가 미세누출도에 영향을 주지 못하였다. 이는 법랑질과 접착시스템과의 강력한 접착력에 기인한 것으로 보이며, 앞으로 이에 대한 더 많은 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

초음속 고받음각에서의 원뿔형 물체 주위의 비대칭 와류 특성 연구 (ASYMMETRIC VORTEX CHARACTERISTICS AT A CONE UNDER SUPERSONIC HIGH ANGLE OF ATTACK FLOW)

  • A supersonic viscous flow over a five-degree half-angle cone is studied computationally with three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. Steady asymmetric solutions show that the asymmetric flow separation is caused by convective instability. The effects of angle of attacks, Reynolds numbers, and Mach numbers have been investigated and it is found that those factors affect the generation of the side force. The side force has the maximum value at ${\alpha}=22^{\circ}$, while over ${\alpha}=22^{\circ}$, asymmetric vortex becomes transient, which results in the unsteady shedding. At the angle of attack of 22 degrees, the side force increases with Reynolds number and decreases with Mach number. The increase of the side force stops over the critical Reynolds number for the present configuration.

New methodology of backbone curve for RC perforated shear walls

  • Following a series of experiments on isolated low-rise RC shear walls with openings, a theoretical study on the backbone curve of a perforated shear wall shows that there are some important observations from experimental results that make clear a semi-empirical formula of the backbone curve of a perforated wall. Critical shear zones can be depicted from the configuration of shear walls with openings. Different factors, including the size and location of shear wall openings, the wall's height/width ratio, horizontal and vertical steel bar ratios, and location and amount of diagonal steel bars are involved in the derivation of the backbone curve. Bending and shear effects are also considered in the paper. In addition, a comparison of load and displacement for solid and perforated shear walls is discussed. Generally, the comparison between experimental curves and computed backbone curves is favorable.

항공기 Nacelle/pylon 위치에 따른 Shock-Buffet 현상의 수치적 연구 (NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF SHOCK-BUFFET ON TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT WITH CHANGING THE POSITION OF NACELLE/PYLON)

  • The shock buffet on a transonic transport aircraft are negative factors that reduce the aerodynamic performance of aircraft. The parametric studies were performed for position of nacelle/pylon to estimate the trend of flow mechanism under the wing that affects shock buffet. To generate external mesh of aircraft configuration that change the position of nacelle, snappyHexMesh provided in OpenFOAM was applied. Implicit density-based solver(ISAAC) was used for flow analysis. The change of nacelle position along horizontal direction dynamically affected the aerodynamic performance of transonic transport aircraft as comparing that of vertical direction. As a result of the parametric study of nacelle/pylon position, it was confirmed that the optimal position of nacelle can be obtained by aerodynamic design.

A combined approach to non-carious cervical lesions associated with gingival recession

  • Non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) with gingival recession require specific consideration on both aspects of hard and soft tissue lesion. In the restorative aspect, careful finishing and polishing of the restorations prior to mucogingival surgery is the critical factor contributing to success. Regarding surgery, assessment of the configuration of the lesion and the choice of surgical technique are important factors. The precise diagnosis and the choice of the proper treatment procedure should be made on the basis of both restorative and surgical considerations to ensure the successful treatment of NCCLs.

접촉전도와 반투명 복사가 반도체 웨이퍼의 CVD 공정 중 열전달에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Contact Conductance and Semitransparent Radiation on Heat Transfer During CVD Process of Semiconductor Wafer)

  • During CVD process of semiconductor wafer fabrication, maintaining the uniformity of temperature distribution at wafer top surface is one of the key factors affecting the quality of final products. Effect of contact conductance between wafer and hot plate on predicted temperature of wafer was investigated. The validity of opaque wafer assumption was also examined by comparing the predicted results with Discrete Ordinate solutions accounting for semitransparent radiative characteristics of silicon. As the contact conductance increases predicted wafer temperature increases and the differences between maximum and minimum temperatures within wafer and between wafer and hot plate top surface temperatures decrease. The opaque assumption always overpredicted the wafer temperature compared to semitransparent calculation. The influences of surrounding reactor inner wall temperature and hot plate configuration are then discussed.
