  • Kiscon, Seumteo, KONEPS and CSI are representative construction-related DBs. All four DBs are operated by the public. However, the characteristics of data are different depending on the purpose. Therefore, it is difficult to utilize integrated data and it is only used sparingly. Creating and sharing a unique key that can identify a construction site will enable integrated accumulation and management of construction-related data for various purposes. At this point, it is most efficient to assign a unique key based on KISCON. KISCOn data conforms to the construction site definition and covers most of the public, private, architectural and civil works. In addition, there is an advantage in that DB construction is performed in the construction situation, which is a relatively preceding process. In the future, it is necessary to create a practical construction site integrated DB through the production of an integrated key table containing linkage information of unique keys for site management, performance indicators, and statistics production.

  • In an organization where major business operations are geared by business process management system(BPMS), routine tasks are processed according to the predefined business processes. However, most business operations are subject to some sort of exceptions, and the exceptional situations require update of the existing business process model, or a new business process model has to be defined to handle the exceptions. This paper proposes a system architecture that deploys business process repository as the media for storage and retrieval of the various business process models developed for exception handling. Well defined situation variables and decision variables play the key role for efficient storage and retrieval of the business process models developed for exception handling. The data mining technique C5.0 was used to build the optimum path for the process repository search tree.

  • Environmental Product Life Cycle Management is an activity for defining and describing the product, process or activity environmentally. Especially, the main responsibility for the environmental impact of products lies in the design phase of product. Designers cany a heavy responsibility to determine technical, economic and ecological properties of the product. So in order to help designers, structured understanding and application of treating large amount of data and infonnation should be considered. This paper presents a methodological approach for decision supporting to build Product Life Cycle Management system and show a set of database modeling. Additionally, a key issue for databases is the quality of the provided information.

  • Recently, the roles of the construction engineers become more important in all phases of construction project life cycle. Construction engineers' capabilities is one of the key factors to accomplish construction project objectives. After acquiring basic Knowledge and skills in colleges, the construction engineers have opportunities to develop their abilities through continuous education provided by companies, associations, colleges, and so on. The current eduction system is not sufficient enough to assist engineers to develop their potentials. The construction professionals training system that help career development, career management, education and training is need to raise excellent engineers in a long term perspective. In order to investigate the necessity and the element in the career development support, I perfromed the perception about the career deveolopment by doning question investigation.

  • Given the importance of adoption of the IOS (Interorganizational System) and the “much-slower-than-anticipated” growth of IOS adoption, especially in small- and midium firms, this study aimed to identify the key determinants of small- and midium-sized firms' ISO usage. Based on prior research on IT/EDI adoption in various organizations, the model that incorporates 9 factors that are hypothesized to have influence on the ISO usage decision was developed and empirically tested against data collected from 114 small- and midium-seized firms' top management. The results show that perceived financial costs are found to be major impediments to usage intention, and perceptions of relative advantage, compatibility, risk are also important determinants of ISO usage intention in small- and midium-sized firms. Implications of these findings are duscussed for researchers and practitioners.

  • Miniaturization of computing devices, and advances in wireless communication and positioning systems will create a wide and increasing range of database applications such as location-based services, tracking and transportation systems that has to deal with Moving Objects. Various types of queries could be posted to moving objects, including past, present and future queries. The key problem is how to model the location of moving objects and enable Database Management System (DBMS) to predict the future location of a moving object. It is obvious that there is a need for an innovative, generic, conceptually clean and application-independent approach for spatio-temporal handling data. This paper presents behavioral aspect of the spatio-temporal databases for managing and querying moving objects. Our objective is to impelement and extend the Spatial TAU (STAU) system developed by Dr.Pelekis that provides spatio-temporal functionality to an Object-Relational Database Management System to support modeling and querying moving objecs. The results of the impelementation are demonstrated in this paper.

  • The material handling equipment selection, that is a key task in the material handling system design, is a complex, difficult task, and requires a massive technical knowledge and systematic analysis. It is invaluable to justify the selected equipment model by the performance evaluation before its actual implementation. This paper presents an intelligent knowledge-based expert system called "IMESE" created by authors, for the selection and evaluation of material handling equipment model suitable for movement and storage of materials in a manufacturing facility. The IMESE is consisted of four modules: a knowledge base to select an appropriate equipment type, a multiple criteria decision making procedure to choose the most favorable commercial model of the selected equipment type, a database to store the list of commercial models of equipment types with their specifications, and simulators to evaluate the performance of the equipment model. The whole process of IMESE is executed under VP-Expert expert system environment.vironment.

  • Managers are constantly facing problems. Some problems are treated with special connotation. Others are solved as a daily routine. While other problems disppear into the realm of oblivion without even recognized by managers. Some of the unrecognized or overlooked problems may cause a serious failure. It is also likely that there is a better solution approach even though we have been using a generally accepted method. Problem identification is a neglected area by researchers and managers, although they are facing problems everday. This paper provides a review of the theories pertained to problem definition and problem identification as the beginning stage of the problem solving process. Based on these theories, we provide an expert system which can assist managers for a better problem solving. Knowledge base for problem identification and recommaendation of tools for the problem solving is the key ingredient of the expert system.

  • Exterior insulation board in cast-in-place concrete form system could reduce construction period and improve quality in apartment construction. However, the method is progressed with insulation and concrete frame works at the same time, then risk is increased in duration control and quality management. Therefore, this paper analyzed risk factors through FMEA method. We found that the key risk factors delaying schedule was insulation material that soaked in the rain and quality defects on the insulation material joint. Based on this research, the risk management approach should be developed for improvement of method activation.
