  • In this study, a gel polymer electrolyte was prepared from urethane acrylate and its electrochemical performances were evaluated. And, $LiCoO_2/GPE/graphite$ cells were prepared and their performances depending on discharge currents and temperatures were evaluated. The precursor containing $5 vol\%$ curable mixture had a low viscosity relatively. Ionic conductivity of the gel polymer electrolyte at room temperature and $-20^{\circ}C$ was ca. $5.9\times10^{-3}S{\cdot}cm^{-1}\;and\;1.7\times10^{-3}S{\cdot}cm^{-1}$, respectively. GPE showed electrochemical stability up to potential of 4.5V vs. $Li/Li^+.LiCoO_2/GPE/graphite$ cell showed a good high-rate and a low-temperature performance.

  • In this study, a general strength concrete member is produced and its hydrothermal temperature is measured. It is intended to present the basic data for establishment of fire resistance performance assessment and review of safety against fire by comparing the data values of slab fire resistance experiment and the numerical analysis model. The value obtained by measuring the hydrothermal temperature of the concrete after heating the concrete designed to have general strength (30 Mpa) for 3 hours in accordance with the ISO 834 Heating Curve is compared with the value obtained from a thermal conduction analysis. As a result of the comparison, though there is a little difference, it is thought that fire behaviors can be predicted in the future if the movement of moisture and the added evaporation speed are taken into account.

  • We have fabricated insulating thin films using p-hexadecoxyphenol(p-Hp) that was formed phenol-formaldehyde resin of crosslinked structure from reaction with formaldehyde by LB technique. For fabricated MIM device, the possibility for insulating layers of electronic were investigated by electrical properties of their LB films according to crosslinking of LB films current-voltage (I-V) properties and frequency-capacitance (C-F) characteristics. We have provided evidence for the high insulating performance of phenol-formaldehyde thin films by the LB method. Conductivity of their LB films was as follows: pure water > 1 % aq. Formaldehyde > heat treatment, in the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics. It is demonstrated that insulation properties of crosslinked p-HP LB films were improved. In capacitance-frequency properties, the heat-treated p-HP LB films for crosslinking showed a low relative dielectric constant.

  • Transparent Conductive Oxide (TCO), especially Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) films are almost prepared by DC magnetron sputtering because of the advantage of obtaining homogeneous large area coatings with high reproducibility. The purpose of this report is describe a detailed investigation of key factors dominating electrical and structural properties of sputtered ITO films. It was confirmed that crystallinity and electrical properties of ITO films were strongly depend on the sputtering pressure and kinetic energy of sputtered particles which are expected to have a close relation with the transport processes between target and substrate. And also, nodule formation on the ITO target was suppressed by both $CaCO_3$ addition and decreasing micro-pore in the target. On the other hand, we focused on the characteristics of amorphous TCO film to use as transparent electrode for various applications. To realize high thermoelectric performance, it was tried to control both high electrical conductivity and low thermal conductivity for the amorphous IZO:Sn films.

  • The gel polymer electrolyte was prepared by radical polymerization using tetra(ethylene glycol) diacrylate and tri(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate to investigate affect of the number of ethylene oxide. The gel polymer electrolyte showed good electrochemical stability up to 4.5 V vs. Li/Li and high ionic conductivity at various temperatures. The lithium-ion polymer batteries with the gel polymer electrolyte, tetra(ethylene glycol) diacrylate- and tri(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate-based, also represented good electrochemical performances such as rate capability, low-temperature performances and cycleability. However, the cell with tri(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate, which has three ethylene oxide, showed better electrochemical performance.

  • The DGPS transmits the enhancement signal to GPS using the medium frequency band. The NDGPS service that covers the Korean peninsula has been started since 2009. The service area of ocean-based DGPS(maritime-DGPS) reference stations covers the 100NM, but land-based DGPS(land-DGPS) covers 80km service area less than that of maritime DGPS. The DGPS's antenna has the top-loaded monopole antenna type. Top-loaded monopoles are the logical antennas to be used in order to get a low profile antenna and a performance according to the broadcaster and communication needs. The antenna needs to get the ground plane with good conductivity characteristics and flat ground plane without obstacle near to the transmitting antenna. In this paper, the radiation characteristics of an equivalent MF antenna are analyzed in view points of the ground conductivity and the ground plane with obstacle near to the antenna.

  • Papermaking technology has drastically improved over the last 20 years to face new challenges. Because environmental regulations have become increasingly strict, papermaking systems have had to accommodate elevated recycled pulp content and an increased use of recycled process water. Process water in papermaking systems has become more dirtier and reduced polymer efficiency. Amphoteric PAM demonstrated a higher degree of stability in a high conductivity environment compared to cationic PAM. This was illustrated by the improved retention performance, particularly the ash retention. This amphoteric polymer can be used for board or newsprint production using recycled pulp, especially for the systems where polymer dissolving water is high in conductivity and degradation of cationic functional groups of cationic PAM can occur.

  • This paper deals with the effects of design (active area, current density, membrane conductivity) and operating parameters (temperature, relative humidity) on the performance of hydrogen-fuelled proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell. The design parameter of a PEM fuel cell with the active area of the single cell considered in this study is 25 cm2 (5 × 5). The operating voltage and current density of the fuel cell were 0.7 V and 0.5 A/cm2 respectively. The variations of activation voltage, ohmic voltage, and concentration voltage with respect to current density are analyzed in detail. The membrane conductivity with variable relative humidity is also analyzed. The results show that the maximum activation overpotential of the fuel cell was 0.4358 V at 0.21 A/cm2 due to slow reaction kinetics. The calculated ohmic and concentrated overpotential in the fuel cell was 0.01395 V at 0.76 A/cm2 and 0.027 V at 1.46 A/cm2 respectively.

  • Bentonite buffer material is a critical component in an engineered barrier system (EBS) for disposing high-level radioactive waste (HLW). The bentonite buffer material protects the disposal canister from groundwater penetration and releases decay heat to the surrounding rock mass; thus, it should possess high thermal conductivity, low hydraulic conductivity, and moderate swelling pressure to safely dispose the HLWs. Bentonite clay is a suitable buffer material because it satisfies the safety criteria. Several additives have been suggested as mixtures with bentonite to increase the thermal-hydraulic-mechanical-chemical (THMC) properties of bentonite buffer materials. Therefore, this study investigated the geotechnical, mineralogical, and THMC properties of several candidate additives such as sand, graphite, granite, and SiC powders. Datasets obtained in this study can be used to select adequate additives to improve the THMC properties of the buffer material.
