This paper describes a study of the design conditions of a planar surface dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactors for generating negative air ions. The capacity of negative air ion generated by the surface DBD reactor is affected by the shape, area ratio and the location of the discharge and induction electrodes of it. To study the optimal design conditions of DBD reactors, the electrodes printed on the substrate of a PCB board is utilized to conduct kind of experiments: the distance of the each electrode along with the X-Y axis, the area ratio of the discharge electrode to induction electrode, and the symmetrical and asymmetrical location of two electrodes. The ion generation capacity is inverse proportional to the gap increases along with X-Y axis. And the optimum ion concentration generated by the ionizer was inspected when the electrodes area ratio was 3 and 5 times of the symmetrical and asymmetrical experimental condition respectively.
This study is to determine an optimal marina's construction location candidate among many alternative candidates in order to obtain the maximized efficiency under the natural conditions. To deal with marina's construction location, the optimal construction location is selected using 10 important factor analysis for 10 candidates in Yeosu city. In this paper, the new model to assign the most reasonable alternative is introduced using 0-1 integer programming. This proposed model has not been applied in the optimal marina's facility candidate selection problem yet. This paper will contribute to determine the most reasonable alternative. Also, this proposal model can be applied to other marina's facility candidate selection problem in other regions.

A vibration-based damage-monitoring scheme is proposed that would generate an alarm showing the occurrence and location of damage under temperature-induced uncertainty conditions. Experiments on a model plate-girder bridge are described, for which a set of modal parameters was measured under uncertain temperature conditions. A damage-alarming model is formulated to statistically identify the occurrence of damage by recognizing the patterns of damage-driven changes in the natural frequencies of the test structure and by distinguishing temperature-induced off-limits. A damage index method based on the concept of modal strain energy is implemented in the test structure to predict the location of damage. In order to adjust for the temperature-induced changes in the natural frequencies that are used for damage detection, a set of empirical frequency correction formulas is analyzed from the relationship between the temperature and frequency ratio.
Although continuous casting process has highly developed, there still remain many problems to be considered. Specifically, two vortex flows resulting from impingement against narrow walls make a flow field unstable in a mold, and it is directly related to internal and external defects of steel products. To cope with this instability, EMBR (Electromagnetic Brake Ruler) technique has been lately studied for the stability of molten steel flow, and it is revealed that molten steel flow in a mold can be controlled with applied magnetic field. However, it is still difficult to clarify flow pattern in an EMBR caster due to complex correlations among variables such as geometric factors, casting conditions, and the place and the intensity of charged magnetic field. In the present study, flow field in a mold is focused with different conditions of electromagnetic effect. To accurately analyze the case, three dimensional low Reynolds turbulent model and appropriate boundary conditions are chosen. To evaluate the electromagnetic effect in molten steel flow, dimensionless numbers are employed. The results show that the location and the intensity of the applied magnetic field significantly influence the flow pattern. Both impingement and internal flow pattern are changed remarkably with the change of the location of applied magnetic field. It turns out that an insufficient magnetic force yields adverse effect like channeling, and rather lowers the quality of steel product.
In this paper, the hybrid methods are suggested, which use the direction angle information to present running trajectory and track the past locations through a small amount of vehicle's location information. In order to prove the effectiveness of the new technique suggested here, vehicle's location information are collected by running the vehicles moving objects under various conditions. Using the location informations and direction angle information collected with time intervals, the vehicl e's location information is abstracted, compared and analyzed. and I have proved that the suggested techniques are more effective by comparing them with others in various methods such as GPS TrackMaker, difference image techniques, consistency comparison, quantity comparison, vehicle's running distances and so on.

In this work, Self-adaptive Differential Evolutionary (SaDE) algorithm is proposed to solve Optimal Location and Size of Capacitor (OLSC) problem in radial distribution networks. To obtain the SaDE algorithm, two improvements have been applied on control parameters of mutation and crossover operators. To expand the study, three load conditions have been considered, i.e., constant, varying and effective loads. Objective function is introduced for the load conditions. The annual cost is fitness of problem, in addition to this cost, CPU time, voltage profile, active power loss and total installed capacitor banks and their related costs have been used for comparisons. To confirm the ability of each improvements of SaDE, the improvements are studied both in separate and simultaneous conditions. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, it is tested on IEEE 10-bus and 34-bus radial distribution networks and compared with other approaches.
To investigate the actual conditions on the living environment of group-homes for the elderly and their living environment, 4 group-homes were surveyed. As the results, conditions of location for the group-home of the elderly looked positive, on the other hand, safety for criminal prevention, accessability and convenient facilities were not on level satisfied. The average area of each space in the group-home indicated that the bed room was $11.21\;m^2$, the living room $28.13\;m^2$, the kitchen $23.59\;m^2$, and the bath room had an integrated type of bath room and toilet $7.63\;m^2$. The physical environments of each space in the group-home were investigated, In bed room, door, windows and illumination were relatively good but safety was extremely inferior. Living room mostly looked good except the doorsill which needs refurbishment. In kitchen, cooking table, windows, illumination, ventilator were somewhat satisfactory but gas-warning device should have been installed. In addition, in bath room and toilet, location, door, window, illumination and finished material were satisfactory. But the stepped difference between the bath room and other space, safety-bar, emergency bell and floor heating system were seriously deteriorated and must be improved for the safety of the elderly. Conclusively, living environment of group-home for the elderly is mainly satisfactory but it was necessary to take a consideration for their safety.

The Earth's radiation belts consist of an inner belt and an outer belt, being separated by the slot region. It is well known that the variations of the inner edge of the outer belt and the location of the plasmapause (Lpp) are closely related to each other. Different waves exist inside and outside the plasmasphere, playing different roles in the particle dynamics. The plasmapause is well known to be influenced by solar wind conditions and geomagnetic disturbances. Therefore, it is important to precisely determine the location of the plasmapause and develop a prediction scheme. In this study, we identified the location of the plasmapause using the plasma density data from the Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions During Substorms (THEMIS). The plasmapause is determined by requiring density gradient of a factor of 15 within L-change = 0.5. We statistically determined Lpp as a function of preceding geomagnetic indices. Also, we determined the relations between Lpp and preceding solar wind conditions by estimating correlation coefficients. These relations give us predicting models of Lpp as a function of preceding solar wind parameters and geomagnetic indices. As our database covers a period over the ascending phase from near-sunspot minimum, our statistical results differ somewhat from previous works that cover near-sunspot maximum. Finally, we give some comparative examples obtained from the Van Allen Probes data.
In this study, road transportation tests were conducted with surrogate fuel assemblies under normal conditions of transport to evaluate the vibration and shock load characteristics of spent nuclear fuel (SNF). The overall test data analysis was conducted based on the measured acceleration and strain data obtained from the speed bump, lane-change, deceleration, obstacle avoidance, and circular tests. Furthermore, representative shock response spectrums and power spectral densities of each test mode were acquired. Amplification or attenuation characteristics were investigated according to the load transfer path. The load attenuated significantly as it transferred from the trailer to the cask. By contrast, the load amplified as it transferred from the cask to the surrogate SNF assembly. The fuel loading location on the cask disk assembly did not exhibit a significant influence on the strain measured from the fuel rods. The principal strain was in the vertical direction, and relatively large strain values were obtained in spans with large spacing between spacer grids. The influence of the lateral location of fuel rods was also investigated. The fuel rods located at the side exhibited relatively large strain values than those located at the center. Based on the strain data obtained from the test results, a hypothetical road transportation scenario was established. A fatigue evaluation of the SNF rod was performed based on this scenario. The evaluation results indicate that no fatigue damage occurred on the fuel rods.
