  • This study was intended to provide the basic design creteria for the refrigerated storage, and to estimate the required optimum capacity of refrigerator for the different sizes and kinds of the existing fruit storage. The structural characteristics of the existing fruit storages in Pyungtaek-khun of Kyungki-do were surveyed. The average out-door air temperature during the expected storage life after harvesting, was obtained by analyzing the weather information. The heat transfer rates through the different models of storage walls were estimated. The refrigerating load required for different models of fruit storage was analyzed in the basis of out-door air temperature. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows: 1. The fruit storages surveyed were constructed on-ground, under-ground and sub-ground type buildings. The majority of them being the on-ground buildings are mostly made of earth bricks with double walls. Rice hull was mostly used as the insulating materials for their walls and ceilings. About 42% of the buildings were with the horizontal ceiling, 22% with sloped ceiling, and about 36% without ceiling. About 60% of the storage buildings had floor without using insulated material. They were made of compacted earth. 2. There is no difference in heat transfer among six different types of double walls. The double wall, however, gives much less heat transfer than the single wall. Therefore, the double wall is recommended as the walls of the fruit storage on the point of heat transfer. Especially, in case of the single wall using concrete, the heat transfer is about five time of the double walls. It is evident that concrete is not proper wall material for the fruit storage without using special insulating material. 3. The heat transfer through the storage walls is in inverse proportion to the thickness of rice hull which is mostly used as the insulating material in the surveyed area. It is recommended that the thickness of rice hull used as the insulating material far storage wall is about 20cm in consideration of the decreasing rate of heat transfer and the available storage area. 4. The design refrigerating load for the on-ground storages having 20 pyung area is estimated in 4.07 to 4.16 ton refrigeration for double walls, and 5.23 to 6.97 ton refrigeration for single walls. During the long storage life, however, the average daily refrigerating load is ranged from 0.93 to 0.95 ton refrigeration for double walls, and from 1.15 to 1.47 ton refrigeration for single walls, respectively. 5. In case of single walls, 50.8 to 61.4 percent to total refrigerating load during the long storage life is caused by the heat transferred into the room space through walls, ceiling and floor. On the other hand, 39.1 to 40.7 percent is for the double walls. 6. The design and average daily refrigerating load increases in linear proportion to the size of storage area. As the size increases, the increasing rate of the refrigerating load is raised in proportion to the heat transfer rate of the wall. 7. The refrigerating load during the long storage life has close relationship to the out-door air temperature. The maximum refrigeration load is shown in later May, which is amounted to about 50 percent to the design refrigerating load. 8. It is noted that when the wall material having high heat transfer rate, such as the single wall made of concrete, is used, heating facilities are required for the period of later December to early February.

  • Currently, global warming has advanced by the usage of fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum. and the atmosphere temperature in the world of 100 years(1906~2005) has been risen $0.74^{\circ}C{\pm}0.18^{\circ}C$, IPCC announced that the global warming effect of last decade was nearly doubled compared to the changes($0.07^{\circ}C{\pm}0.02^{\circ}C$/10year) in the past 100 years. Moreover, due to the global warming, heat wave, heavy snow, heavy rain, super typhoon, were caused and are increasing to happen in the world continuously causing damages and destruction of social infrastructures, where concrete structures are suffering deterioration by long-term extreme climate changes. to solve these problems, the new construction technology and codes are necessary. In this study, to solve these problems, experiments on a variety of cases considering the temperature and humidity, the main factors of climate factors, were performed, and the cases are decided by temperature and humidity. The specimens were tested in compressive strength test and split tensile test by the curing age(3,7,28 days) morever, performance based design(PBD) method was applied by using the satisfaction curve developed from the experiment date. PBD is the design method that gathers the current experimental analysis and past experimental analysis and develops the material properties required for the structure, and carries out the design of concrete mix, and it is recently studied actively worldwide. Also, it is the ultimate goal of PBD to design and perform on structures have sufficient performance during usage and to provide the problem solving for various situations, Also, it can achieve maximum effect in terms of functionality and economy.

  • One of the basic physical properties of the hardened cement paste, the rigidity, is deteriorated during concrete matrix forming, depending on the replacement rate of the crushed stone powder, and due to drying shrinkage. Therefore, the concrete containing crushed stone powder has been limitedly used as non-structural construction material. To improve these disadvantages, a hydrothermal reaction employing method can be considered. High-temperature and high-pressure water is involved in the hydrothermal reaction in the mixing with specific materials. The rigidity improving mechanism is related to the synthesis of calcium silicate. The calcium silicate is produced through reaction between calcium compounds and the silicic acid. Various kinds of calcium silicate can be produced depending on the CaO/$SiO_2$ mole ratio, the temperature of the hydrothermal synthesis, the pressure, and the reaction time. The product of the synthesis mechanism, tobermorite crystal, plays a pivotal role for the rigidity reinforcement. The crushed stone powder, analyzed in this study, contains 50 to 60% of $SiO_2$ and 10 to 20% $Al_2O_3$. The composite rate is appropriate to create the tobermorite crystal through formation of hardened cement matrix under the hydrothermal synthetic conditions and with the CaO in the cement. Moreover, further reinforcement was promoted using the property of material under the identical density through promoting the formation of tobermorite crystal.

  • The sprayable waterproofing membrane is a recently introduced material in the civil engineering field, and is a material that sprays and attaches a single phase or two phase powder or liquid material to a surface to be covered using a pump and nozzle. Although the material properties are gradually reported through researches, there is a lack of studies on long-term performance compared to concrete materials used with the membranes. In this study, the long-term performance of materials was estimated using the Arrhenius equation. The temperature conditions used in this study were 65℃, 80℃ and 95℃, and the temperature was maintained with the membrane attached to the concrete block for long-term behavior. Then the membranes were tested for tensile strength and adhesion strength in the order of 30, 90, 150, 200, and 300 days. The long-term performance of the material was determined from a long-term perspective by estimating the activation energy by the Arrhenius equation. Consequently, the time to reach 50% of the performance standard could be estimated by long-term test.

  • The purpose of this study is evaluating the characteristics of tensile strength of UHPC and examining tensile performance of notched specimens by direct tensile test. For test variables, 120, 150, and 180MPa of target design standard strength were aimed at. With general water curing and $90^{\circ}C$ high temperature steam as curing conditions, the properties were reviewed. Overall, it was represented that the specimens of notch-type direct tensile strength concrete was effective in inducing central cracks compared with existing direct tension specimens. Through this, it was judged that data construction with high reliability was possible. Above all, in a graph of direct tensile strength and strain, in the case of steam curing at high temperature, there was great difference of initial tensile strength compared with water curing. As passing of ages, an aspect that the difference gradually decreased was shown. Maximum tensile strength was found to increase steadily with increasing age for all target design strengths in water curing, in the case of steam curing, the tendency to increase significantly due to the initial strength development effect at 7 days of age. The initial crack strength increases with age in case of underwater curing, in the case of steam curing, it was higher than that of water curing in 7 days, while the strength of 28 days was lowered. In this part, it is considered necessary to examine the arrangement condition of the steel fiber.

  • The usage of Ground Granulated Blast Furnance Slag (GGBFS) has been increased recently. Studies on the cement hydration model incorporating GGBFS as well as the properties of cement paste done with GGBFS such as compressive strength, hydration products and hydration heat have been the subjects of many researches. However, studies on the reaction degree of GGBFS that affect the properties of cement paste incorporating GGBFS are lacking globally and specially in Korea. Thus, in this study, the reaction degree of GGBFS using the method if selective dissolution, compressive strength, the amount of chemical bound water and $Ca(OH)_2$ were measured and analysed in accordance with water-binder ratio, replacement ratio of GGBFS, and curing temperature. The results show that the reaction degree of GGBFS, the amount of chemical bound water and $Ca(OH)_2$ in cement paste with GGBFS were higher in conditions where the replacement ratio of GGBFS was low and both water-binder ratio and curing temperature were high. Finally, the reaction degree of GGBFS was achieved at a value between 0.3~0.4.

  • The life cycle assessment on greenhouse gas emission of reinforced concrete buildings shows that more than 70 percent of greenhouse gas that is discharged by a building is discharged in the building maintenance stage, including cooling and heating. To reduce the greenhouse gas emission, maintenance planning to minimize the energy consumption is necessary in the design stage. In this paper, two heat storage rooms are tested to save the air cooling energy of the buildings. The specimens are essentially identical, except that chamber A contained paraffin sheets as the finishing material, while the other, chamber B, served as a control. The test results show that chamber A with the paraffin sheets exhibited less temperature change than chamber B without the sheets when temperature was increased outside of the specimens. The heating energy was probably consumed in the phase change of the paraffin sheets, which can be useful for reducing energy consumption related to air cooling during the summer.

  • Duct slabs, which are used to build ventilation facilities in underground spaces with transverse ventilation system, need to secure fire resistance according to longitudinal and heavy vehicle traffic of tunnels. This study measured the temperature change at the construction joint of the precast fireproof duct slab which integrates fire resistance material and duct slab under the RWS fire scenario. As a result, it was confirmed that if there is no reinforcement of the construction joint, damage will occur in concrete inside the construction joint, leading to damage to the fireproofing layer. On the other hand, when one side of the construction joint was reinforced with fireproofing materials, it showed more than three times the fire resistance performance compared to when there was no reinforcement. At this time, cross-sectional losses of concrete and fireproofing layer were shown in blocks without reinforcement, but no damage was seen in the reinforced blocks.

  • This study investigates the deformation behavior, related to debonding failure, of adhesion and repairing-strengthening materials of RC construction. A strain-stress curve shows that when the stress of specimens reached the highest and then fails, the strain value of cement mortar is $2.0{\times}10^{-3}$, while concrete was indicated at around $1.3{\times}10^{-3}$, epoxy resins are $0.8{\times}10^{-3}$, polymer mortar is $2.5{\times}10^{-3}$, steel plate is $2.5{\times}10^{-3}$, and carbon bar was $9.1{\times}10^{-3}$, respectively. For a thermal expansion coefficient with temperature variation, those basis materials, cement mortar and concrete, exhibited around $10{\mu}{\varepsilon}/{^{\circ}C}$, but adhesive materials, such as epoxy resins and polymer mortar, were $41{\sim}54{\mu}{\varepsilon}/{^{\circ}C}$ and $-0.5{\sim}0.7{\mu}{\varepsilon}/{^{\circ}C}$, respectively. In the case of steel plate is similar to basic materials but carbon fiber is indicates at $-1.7{\mu}{\varepsilon}/{^{\circ}C}$, which is the lowest value. Especially, between basic and adhesive materials, the thermal expansion coefficient was highly different. Although the coefficient depends on the type of epoxy resins, it is clear that the epoxy resins are susceptible to be debonded in nature, when the difference of environmental temperature varies more than $20{\sim}35{^{\circ}C}$.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the temperature, water balance, evaporation and physicochemical properties during the composting with pig slurry at a scraper system. The pig slurry was composted on farm trial using continuous aeration with turning machine for 5 month. A compost facility of rectangular concrete bin with dimension of 53 m (length) ${\times}$ 4.6 m (width) ${\times}$ 2 m (height) was bedded with sawdust. The environmental parameters were monitored in period of 5 months. The results were as follows ; 1. During the composting period, the temperature was varied in the range $50{\sim}70^{\circ}C$. The temperature of compost pile was highest in middle layer and lowest in under layer. Temperature difference between middle and under area of compost pile was $5{\sim}20^{\circ}C$. 2. The water content of compost pile varied $50{\sim}68%$. In the period of 50% of water content of compost pile, the temperature of compost was $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ and was not successfully composted. 3. In this study, total evaporation was 90% during composting. The amount of slurry per $1m^3$ sawdust by this method was $3.16m^3$ without treatment of effluent output. 4. The chemical properties of produced compost was high, but suitable for plant growth. Concentration of T-N, T-C in the final compost were 1.62, 34%, respectively.
