FRACTAL (Flexural-Rigidity Assessment of Concrete Tracks by Antisymmetric Lamb Waves)
Recently a concrete slab tracks are being constructed on roadbed in the Gyoeng-bu 2nd phase high speed railways. In respdnding to this trend, new design standards and track materials maintenance systems, based on the slab track material safety and usage perspective, are needed. This research provides a roadbed design criteria and the maintenance system. The proposed roadbed design criteria and the maintenance system are based on the developed analysis meathod of train/slab-track interaction. where the roadbed settlement and train speed are utilized as mediating variables. In the analysis, the dynamic response of train/slab-track interaction apply to various speeds and settlements. the roadbed settlement is shown in a sinusoidal shape of wave, the scope of the settlement occurrence presented in its wavelengths, include 6meters, 10meters, 15merwes, 20meters, 30meters. The train speeds involved are 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400kilometers per hour.
The Permanent Way consisting of rails and sleeper laid on ballast is a technically and economically viable solution. After two decades of targeted research and development activities Slab Track turned out to be a reasonable option on special fields. Slab Track proves that especially under extreme condition and loads - they reliably help stability and a long service life of track. Technical and experimental solution of slab track are particularly underlined. This paper presents a few Results of the experiments of SFRC slab tracks under fatigue load.
Steel bar is used for as a reinforcing material in a concrete slab track. Bacuase the steel re-bar could provide passes for current transition, all the cross points of steel re-bars should be insulated by using plastic materials. This is due to the loss of signal intensity of track-circuit. In this study, GFRP bars are adopted in place of the traditional steel reinforcing bars for a concrete slab track to minimize the loss of the signal intensity. In order to evaluate the replacing effect on eletrical characteristic of slab track, measurements of surface resistivity are conducted on steel and GFRP reinforced precast slab tracks. In the results, the GFRP reinforced slab strack shows the higher resistivity than the steel reinforced slab track.
Concrete tracks are superior to ballast tracks in the aspect of durability, maintenance and safety. However, deteriorated stiffness of railroad bed and settlement of soft ground induced by trapped or seepage water lead to problems in safety of train operation. In this research, characteristic stiffness of concrete tracks, which is determined from FRACTAL (Flexural-Rigidity Assessment of Concrete Tracks by Antisymmetric Lamb Waves) technique, was employed as an index of track displacement. The characteristic stiffness is defined using Poisson's ratio, moment of inertia and stiffness ratio of subgrade to slab. To verify validity and reliability of the proposed characteristic stiffness, experimental and theoretical researches were performed. Feasibility of the characteristic stiffness based on FRACTAL technique was proved at a real concrete track for Korean high-speed trains. Validity of the FRACTAL technique was also verified by comparing the results of impulse-response tests performed at the same measurement array and the results of SASW tests and DC resistivity survey performed at a shoulder nearby the track.
The passage of railway vehicles generates mechanical vibrations and noises. This problem can be mitigated by the 'floating slab track' that isolating from infrastructures by installing vibration isolator in the concrete slab track. In the previous researches, adjacent floating slab tracks are connected by dowel bar system. It has been reported that many dowel bars with less diameter show better load transfer efficiency (LTE) compared to small number of dowel bars with larger diameter under the condition of the same dowel area. In this study, dowel system is further considered as a concrete anchorage system and the design strength of the dowel system was evaluated based on ACI code 318-08 Appendix D. The design strength of dowel system is then verified against failure load test of floating slab system.
The construction of concrete slab track system is increased recently because the system has advantages which are maintenance free and so on. However, the noise level on slab track is 3 db(A) higher than the one on ballast track since most of noise is reflected on slab track. Currently, concrete slab track systems has been designed for Gyungbu high speed line stage 2 and Honam high speed line. For those tracks, noise absorbing blocks are considered. Therefore, test methods and proper criteria for structural performance and reduction efficiency of noise absorbing blocks are required. In this study, tests were performed according to established test methods and criteria in previous study and the results have done comparative analysis.

ATP(Automatic Train Protection) system in railway signaling system is the important one grasping the position and velocity of a train. The wayside transmitter of ATP system is installed between rails. In concrete slab track, the signal current using wayside transmitter of ATP system is influenced by reinforcing bars. The magnetic coupling between reinforcing bars and wayside transmitter of ATP system as a filter makes an input current distorted. So, it makes an alternating current signal with a desirable size not transmit to on-board system of a train. Way to decrease the distortion of an input current signal frequency is to avoid maximum induction current frequency. And the induction phenomenon between reinforcing bars insulated and wayside transmitter of ATP system does not occur. In this paper, we represent the model about wayside transmitter of ATP system and reinforcing bars on the concrete slab tracks, and calculated the parameters demanded for the model. Also, we demonstrated it through the Maxwell program. Furthermore, we calculated impedance on wayside transmitter used in KVB system and ERTMS/ETCS system which are a kind of ATP system, frequency response of induction current, using the Matlab, and demonstrated the validity of it, using the PSpice program.
Paris hasn't experienced such excitement since the huge changes brought about by Baron Haussmann in the 19th century. Paris Rive Gauche project, started in 1991, is the largest urban project in city ever since, it represents about 1% of Paris territory. It takes place on a workshops, factories and warehouses area that prospered along the Seine river and the railways in the 19th century. Originally planned as a business quarter, Paris Rive Gauche, developed by SEMAPA for the City of Paris, fosters urban diversity through housing, offices, public facilities, shops, creating a stimulating neighbourhood where 18,000 residents, 30,000 students as well as 60,000 employees will soon croth paths. This project's main principles are urban and social diversity, deployment of public facilites, the development of new university campus inside the city, promotion of industrial patrimony and connecting the old 13th distict to the river and the opposite side. Half of the project is going to be built on a concrete slab that covers the railway tracks which is one of the major performances of this long-term project. This concrete slab represents the new level of the City, about 6 to 8 meters above the railway tracks. We distinguish three families of buildings on the cover : Classic buildings; Bridges buildings and Connection buildings, these last guarantee the linkage between old and new level of the City.
