This paper investigates the fundamental properties and shrinkage characteristics of low shrinkage high performance concrete(LSHPC), using mock-up specimens. According to the test results, the most suitable mix proportions of LSHPC need a higher dosage of SP agent and AE agent, in order to obtain the target of slump flow and air content. This is due to reduce fluidity and air content respectively. It also presented earlier setting time than control concrete by 6 hours and exhibited compressive strength of 60MPa at age 28 days. Autogenous shrinkage of LSHPC was the half of the value of control concrete. Drying shrinkage of center section of LSHPC showed similar tendency with autogenous shrinkage, because of no internal moisture movement, while surface section had larger drying shrinkage. The specimen with embedded reinforcing bar had smaller deformation owing to confinement of reinforcing bar.
Even if the exploitation of copper slag produced during the smelting process of copper as aggregate for construction purpose has been permitted since 2004 in Korea, the lack of sufficient data enabling to evaluate its long-term stability that is its durability has to date impeded its application. This study intends to investigate experimentally the durability characteristics of 18 and 27 MPa-class commercial concretes in which natural sand (fine aggregates) has been partially replaced by copper slag through accelerated and exposure tests so as to provide bases promoting the application of copper slag concrete. The experimental results revealed insignificant difference of the durability characteristics in most of the mix proportions in which 30% of natural sand was replaced by copper slag. In the case where crushed sand was adopted, tests verified similar characteristics for replacement ratio of 50%. Particularly, the results of the exposure test conducted during 8 years demonstrated that equivalent level of durability was secured compared to the case using natural sand. In the case of 18MPa-class lower grade concrete, exposure test verified also that the physical lifetime similar to 50 years could be secured until carbonation reaches cover depth of 20 mm.

PURPOSES : As a research to develop a cement treated base course for an airport pavement which can enhance its drainage, this paper investigated the strength, infiltration performance and durability of the pervious concrete with respect to maximum coarse aggregate sizes and compaction methods. METHODS : This study measured compressive strength, infiltration rate, continuous porosity and freeze-thaw resistance of pervious concrete specimens, which were fabricated with five different compaction methods and different maximum aggregate sizes. In addition, in order to reduce the usage of Portland cement content and to enhance environment-friendliness, a portion of the cement was replaced with Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS). RESULTS: Compressive strength requirement, 5 MPa at 7 days, was met for all applied compaction methods and aggregate sizes, except for the case of self-compaction. Infiltration rate became increased as the size of aggregate increased. The measured continuous porosities varied with the different compaction methods but the variation was not significant. When GGBS was incorporated, the strength requirement was successfully satisfied and the resistance to freezing-thawing was also superior to the required limit. CONCLUSIONS: The infiltration rate increased as the maximum size of aggregate increased but considering construct ability and supply of course aggregate, its size is recommended to be 25mm. With the suggested mix proportions, the developed pervious concrete is expected to successfully meet requirements for strength, drainage and durability for cement treated base or subbase course of an airport pavement.

In recent years, the terminology "High-Performance Concrete(HPC)" has been introduced into the construction industry. Most high-performance concretes have a high cementitious content and a low water-cementitious material ratio. The proportions of the individual constituents vary depending on local preferences and local materials. Therefore, many trial batches are usually necessary before a successful mix is developed. The objective of this experiments is to investigate the fundamental properties of high performance concrete based binary cimentitious materials such as ordinary portland cement and ground granulated blast furnace slag. The results from the study will be utilized as the basic data and guideline in making standard mixproportions and the manufacture, construction work and quality control of HPC

In this study, when concrete properties are changed by concrete mix proportions or blending of admixtures, the characteristics of electro-chemical method for corrosion assessment of the embedded steel are compared and its causes are analyzed. According to the results, when the ratio of corroding area was less than 10%, the half-cell method was affected by concrete properties. In the case of specimen blended admixtures, it is possible to assess the high-corroded steel qualitatively using the half-cell method. For the polarization resistance method, though the corroding area was less than 10%, it has not affected by concrete properties. However, in case of specimen blended admixtures, the corrosion level of steel was underestimated than OPC specimens having a similar corroding area.
This paper aims to adapt Multilinear regression (MLR) to predict the strength and toughness of SIFCON containing various pozzolanic materials. Slurry Infiltrated Fibrous Concrete (SIFCON) is one of the most common terms used in concrete manufacturing, known for its benefits such as high ductility, toughness and high ultimate strength. Assessment of compressive strength (CS.), flexural strength (F.S.), splitting tensile strength (STS), dynamic elasticity modulus (DME) and impact energy (I.E.) using the experimental approach is too costly. It is time-consuming, and a slight error can lead to a repeat of the test and, to solve this, alternative methods are used to predict the strength and toughness properties of SIFCON. In the present study, the experimentally investigated SIFCON data about various mix proportions are used to predict the strength and toughness properties using regression analysis-multilinear regression (MLR) models. The input parameters used in regression models are cement, fibre, fly ash, Metakaolin, fine aggregate, blast furnace slag, bottom ash, water-cement ratio, and the strength and toughness properties of SIFCON at 28 days is the output parameter. The models are developed and validated using data obtained from the experimental investigation. The investigations were done on 36 SIFCON mixes, and specimens were cast and tested after 28 days of curing. The MLR model yields correlation between predicted and actual values of the compressive strength (C.S.), flexural strength, splitting tensile strength, dynamic modulus of elasticity and impact energy. R-squared values for the relationship between observed and predicted compressive strength are 0.9548, flexural strength 0.9058, split tensile strength 0.9047, dynamic modulus of elasticity 0.8611 for impact energy 0.8366. This examination shows that the MLR model can predict the strength and toughness properties of SIFCON.

Recently, active researches are conducted on high performance concrete(HPC) exhibiting high strength and high fluidity. These researches are resulting in increased applications on real structures. In order to satisfy the required performances, HPC makes use of large quantities of binder and presents low water-cementitious material ratio. Such mixing is increasing significantly the autogenous shrinkage, which subsequently is likely to favor the potential development of cracks. Therefore, we investigated the effect of used materials and mix proportions on the shrinkage properties of HPC, and of the use of expansive additives and shrinkage reducing agents on the HPC. The autogenous shrinkage of HPC using blast furnace slag are tend to be increased, in some case have the potential development of cracks by only the autogenous shrinkage. Also the using method in combination with expansive additive and shrinkage reducing agent is more effective than the separately using method of that.

The objective of this study is to examine the reproducibility for compressive strength development and mechanical properties of lightweight concrete made using bottom ash aggregates and foam(LWC-BF). Based on the mix proportions conducted by Ji et al., six identical mixes were prepared with different actual foam volume ratios from 0% to 25% and water-to-binder ratios from 25% to 30%. The presently measured properties, including initial slump, slurry density, compressive strength gains at different ages, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of rupture, were very close to those determined in the previous tests by Ji et al. Thus, the developed LWC-BF has a good potential in obtaining a reproducibility for compressive strength development and mechanical properties even though the troubles of mixing control owing to the addition of preformed foam.

This study explores manufacturing technology and basic properties of high strength cement composites at 2,000kg/㎥ of specific weight. It is suggested that lightweight-high strength cement composites can be produced by substituting silica sand in ulta-high performance concrete mixture with lightweight materials such as solid bubbles and lightweight fine aggregates. The 28-day compressive strengths of cement composites with solid bubbles were from 116MPa to 141MPa at below 2.0g/㎤ of unit density while the cement composites with lightweight aggregates possessed lower compressive strength and higher unit density. The specific weight calculated from mixture proportions did not have significant difference with unit density of hardened cement composites, indicating that unit density of hardened cement composites can be estimated from the specific weight in mixture proportions.

To predict the service life of reinforced concrete structures exposed to chloride environment, quantitative measures of material properties such as the critical chloride content for corrosion in concrete and the diffusion coefficient of chloride ions of concrete and the surface chloride content of the concrete are essential. However, it should be noted that they are influenced by several factors such as concrete mix proportions, cement type, and environmental conditions, etc. Thus, the purpose of this research is to estimate more actually the critical chloride content for corrosion of the reinforcing steel in concrete by field exposure experiment. For this purpose, the prism concrete test specimens were made for water-cement(W/C) ratios of 31%, 42%, 50%, and 70%, and then the field exposure experiment for them were conducted at Youngduk of the east coast for about 3 years. During the test, corrosion monitoring by half cell potential method was carried out to detect the time to initiation of corrosion for test specimens and its chloride content was evaluated by breaking the concrete test specimens when corrosion of the reinforcing steel in concrete was perceived. It was observed from the test results that the critical chloride content for corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete would be dependent on W/C ratio and almost irrespective of concrete cover.
