  • SEDT(System Engineering Design Tool) has been developed for small satellite conceptual design with an aim to verifying the nanosatellite HAUSAT-2 design. The program can calculate the mass and power of whole satellite system having specific mission and estimate the system cost based on mission and user requirements. It is containing various analysis data of more than 200 small satellites. The database will provide the trend analysis results of the small satellites which will become important design factors. This tool has also been verified by applying more than 10 small satellite data through case studies.

  • The performance analysis code has been developed for vertical take-off and landing(VTOL) UAV which can be utilized as a trade analysis tool in the pre-conceptual design phase. The UAV requires VTOL capability and high speed cruise performance. The main logic of this performance analysis code is to estimate performance parameters of each mission segment by mission fuel weight iteration. The reliability of this performance analysis code is discussed by comparing the data of existing dual flight mode VTOL UAVs such as Boeing CRW and Bell Tilt Rotor.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish the test procedure of concrete slab track and to estimate the performance of newly developed slab track. The basic direction of conceptual design of KRRI Slab track was determined in the viewpoint of running safety, economic efficiency and maintenance costs. Based on the research results, a detailed conceptual design of KRRI slab track is suggested. For the systematic development of slab track, a comparative study is carried out, comparing merits and demerits of each slab type, and used in the design process of slab track. Slab track tests were performed at lab and the slab track system was improved by the experiment result. Site Test also were performed in test slab track.

  • There is currently applied to the unit cost per a distance (KRW/km) for estimating the conceptual cost of civil work on basic planning stage of high speed railroad. This unit cost is an arithmetic average value based on historical data, which could be in big error. It also is difficult to explain the deficiency comparing the estimated cost derived from next basic design stage. This study provides the conceptual estimation model using by the parametric method and regression analysis. Independent variables are the distance and the geological materials (earth, weathered rock, soft-rock, hard-rock), extracting from the actual data to 36 contracts. The deviation between the unit costs estimated using the developed model and the actual cost data is presented in the range from -0.4% to +31%. This range is acceptable compared the typical range "-30% to + 50%". This model will improve the accuracy of existing method and be expected to contribute to effective total cost management and the economic aspects, reduce the financial expenditure.

  • A reference scenario of vault safety case prepared by the IAEA for the near-surface disposal facility of low-and informed]ate-level radioactive wastes is assessed with the MASCOT program. The appropriate conceptual models for the MASCOT implementation is developed. An assessment of groundwater pathway through a drinking well as a geosphere-biosphere interface is performed first. then biosphere pathway is analysed to estimate the radiological consequences of the disposed radionuclides based on compartment modeling approach. The validity of conceptual modeling for the reference scenario is investigated where possible comparing to the results generated by the other assessment. The result of this study shows that the typical conceptual model for groundwater pathway represented by the compartment model ran be satisfactorily used for safety assessment of the entire disposal system in a cons]stent way. It is also shown that safety assessment of a disposal facility considering complex and various pathways would be possible by the MASCOT program.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the parameters of linear reservoir models in order to derive the Instantaneous unit hydrograph from a given small experimental watershed. The linear reservoir model is a conceptual model, consisting of cascade or parallel equal linear reservoirs, preceded by a linear channel which involved Nash, SLR(single linear reservoir) and 2-PLR(two-parallel linear Reservoir) model. the Nash model have two parameters N and K, single linear reseroir has one parameter $K_I$ and two-parallel linear reservoirs have two parameters $K_1,\;K_2$; where N denote the number of reservoirs and K is the storage coefficient of each reservoirs.

  • This paper presents a spreadsheet-based reliability prediction simulation framework for the conceptual product design stage to acquire system reliability information in timely manner. During early stage, reliability performance deals with both known and unknown failure rates and component-level and subsystem-level failure estimate to predict system reliability. A technique for performing life testing simulation using Excel spreadsheet has been developed under the such circumstances. This paper also discuss the results obtainable from this method such as reliability estimate, mean and variance of failures and confidence intervals. The resultant of this reliability prediction system is mainly benefitting small and medium-sized enterprise's field engineers.

  • In this paper, a theorectical approach is studied to predict structural performances and weight-reduction rates of hybrid bodyshells in case that the materials of roof structures are substituted. To determine other light-weight materials to be substituted for the original roof materials, bending and twisting deformations are considered under constant stiffness and strength conditions, which derive some new weight-reduction indices from a structural performance point of view. The indices derived to estimate the weight-reduction can be utilized as a good criterion at the conceptual design for material substitution of the roofs.

  • In general, the conceptual lumped-parameter groundwater flow model to predict the groundwater fluctuations in hillside slopes has unknown model parameters to be estimated from the known input -output data. The purpose of this study is to estimate the optimal model parameters of the groundwater flow model developed by authors. The Mazilnum A Posteriori( MAP) estimation method is utilized for this purpose and it is applied to a site which shows the typical landslide in Korea. The result of application shows tllat the 반AP estimation method can estimate the unknown parameters properly well. The groundwater model developed along with estimation technique applied in this paper will be used for assessing risk of landslides.
