Since the direct normal insolation is a main factor for designing any focusing solar system, it is necessary to evaluate its characteristics all over the country. We have begun collecting direct normal insolation data since December 1990 at 16 different locations and considerable effort has been made for constructing a standard value from measured data at each station. KIER(Korea Institute of Energy Research)'s new data will be extensively used by concentrating system users or designers as well as by research institutes. From the results, we can conclude that 1) Yearly mean $4,576kcal/m^2.day$ of the direct normal insolation was evaluated for clear day all over 16 areas in Korea. 2) Clear day's direct normal insolation of spring and summer were $4,710kcal/m^2.day$ and $4,960kcal/m^2.day$, and for fall and winter their values were $4,484kcal/m^2.day$ and $4,151kcal/m^2.day$ respectively. So, spring and summer were higher, and fall and winter were lower than the yearly mean value.
A novel design for a Fresnel lens for a solar end-pumped laser is demonstrated in this paper. The new hybrid Fresnel lens includes two parts, inner and outer. The inner part is a twice-total-internal-reflection and vertical-transmission lens. The outer part is a once-total-reflection and vertical-transmission lens. The radius of the Fresnel lens is 600 mm, and its focal length is 750 mm. The concentrating performance of the Fresnel lens is examined using TracePro. The results show that the concentration efficiency has been greatly improved. The total concentration efficiency of the hybrid Fresnel lens reaches 73.2% when the radius of the laser rod is 3 mm. This design can simplify the concentration system of a solar end-pumped solid-state laser.

A Fresnel lens is an optical component which can be used as a cost-effective, lightweight alternative to conventional continuous surface optics. Fresnel lens solar concentrators continue to fulfill a market requirement as a system component in high volume cost effective Concentrating Photovoltaic (CPV) electricity generation. The basic principles of the fresnel lens are reviewed and some practical examples are described. To investigate the performance space of the Fresnel lens, a fast simulation method which is a hybrid between raytracing and analytical computation is employed to generate a cache of simulation data. Injection molders are warming up to the idea of cycling their tool surface temperature during the molding cycle rather than keeping it constant. Heat and cool process are now also finding that raising the mold wall temperature above the resin's glass-transition or crystalline melting temperature during the filling stage and product performance in applications from automotive to packaging to optics. This paper deals with the suitability of Fresnel lenses of imaging and non-imaging designs for solar energy concentration. The concentration fresnel lens confirmed machinability and optical transmittance and roughness measure through manufactured the prototype.

The solar cell need the characteristic interpreting because the solar cell changes greatly according to the isolation, temperature and load in the photovoltaic development. Moreover, to get many energy in photovoltaic development need the position tracking of the sun according to the environment change. Also, The solar cells should be operated at the maximum power point. In this paper, I used microprocessor and sensor and designed to improve the efficiency of the photovoltaic system the photovoltaic position tracker device, and compared the normal photovoltaic system of fixed form with the photovoltaic system of solar position tracked form. Moreover, compared the catalogue of solar cell module and the simulation through a mathematics modelling with the solar cell's characteristic interpreting and composed an power conversion system with boost converter and voltage source inverter. Used the constant voltage control method for maximum power point tracking in boost converter control and, used the SPWM(Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation) control method in inverter control. The result was less then 5% when compared the catalogue of solar cell module and the simulation through a mathematics modelling. The boost rate of boost converter was similar to 167 % with the simulation.
The high viscosity of a LiCl(lithium chloride) solution as an absorbent in a solar energy regenerator causes a channeling phenomenon on the solar powered absorber plate surface when the solution is trickling down for regenerating itself. As this channeling phenomenon affects badly the heat and mass transfer, it is pertinent that this phenomenon be studied. Since regenerating performance of the solar energy regenerator depends on how the solution uniformly flows on the plate surface, an experiment on the structure of the plate surface for a model regenerator was conducted. Various shapes and structures of the plat surface down which the LiCl solution trickled were tested, and it was found that a tiered surface showed the highest water evaporation rate leaving more potential energy concentrating LiCl on the plate. It was also observed that the water evaporation rate depended largely on the pitch and height of the disturbing rods. In addition, the wider the contact area is and the longer the solution's flow time, the better the solar energy regenerator's performance.

There are two main types of concentrating optical systems in use today: refractive types that use Fresnel lenses, and reflective systems that use one or more mirrors. Regardless of the chosen optical system, the result is concentrated sunlight being aimed at the sensitive face of the cell, to produce more energy from less photovoltaic material. In this paper, for the achieve trackerless CPV system, CPV module included that the spherical lens with reflect mirror makes it possible to achieve high and stable power generation performance for the high concentration photovoltaic power generation system and cope with the needs for a variety of shapes and sizes in flexible manners and that the multiple cavity assemble method greatly reduces costs. Development of these high performance multi-junction CPV module promises to accelerate growth in photovoltaic power generation.

Static compound parabolic collectors (CPCs) have advantages such as ease for fabrication and lower cost compared with other concentrating collectors. In this study, thermal performance analysis of CPC employing heat storage tank was carried out. The clearness index and capacity of heat storage tank are taken as the main parameters for numerical simulation. The effects of the parameters on the hourly and daily system performances ncluding the useful energy, heat loss, and collector efficiency were numerically investigated. Results showed that the system has a potential for efficient recovery of solar thermal energy.

The thermal and mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced cement-based composite for solar thermal energy storage were investigated in this paper. The effect of the addition of different cement-based materials to Ordinary Portland cement on the thermal and mechanical characteristics of fiber-reinforced composite was investigated. Experiments were performed to measure mechanical properties including compressive strength before and after thermal cycling and split tensile strength, and to measure thermal properties including thermal conductivity and specific heat. Test results showed that the residual compressive strength of mixtures with OPC and slag was greatest among cement-based composite. Thermal conductivity of mixtures including graphite was greater than that of any other mixtures, indicating favor of graphite for improving thermal transfer in terms of charging and discharging in thermal energy storage system. The addition of CSA or zirconium increased specific heat of fiber-reinforced cement-based composite. Test results of this study could be actually used for the design of thermal energy storage system in concentrating solar power plants.

In recently, interests in the New & Renewable Energy are increasing because of exhaustion of fossil energy and limit of greenhouse gas emission all over the world. Furthermore, improvements in living standards and high-raise Buildings due to the industrial growth require a lot of sunlight in the interior space. Sunlight system gets the natural light into the indoor dark space. There are a lot of type of systems which are reflector type, duct type, optical fibers type and so on. And these systems consist of light-collection module, light-transporting module and light-emitting module. In this research, we installed optical fiber sunlight system in our head office building and tested the system's performance and efficiency. Optical fiber sunlight system is closely connected with hour of sunlight, due to the system have to chase the sun for the solar concentrating, and the system's light-collection and light- transporting efficiency is important factors in the system's performance. As a result of the test, system can be used about 5.66 hours on average in a day, and it has a about 3.21 times collection efficiency and 5.5% transmission loss.
