Coffee is known to increase pancreatic secretion of digestive enzymes. The mutagen, aflatoxin B1(AFB1) is contained in fermented foods and known to increase the specific activities of pancreatic chymotrypsin, trypsi, amylase, and lipase. Nowadays, coffee intake is increased among Koreans who have consumed relatively high amount of traditional fermented foods. Therefore, this study was performed to examine the effect of coffee and AFB1 on pancreatic exocrine function and structure. Rats were divided into 10 experimental groups. The first five groups were W(control group), LD(0.2g decaffeinated coffee/Kg B.W), HD(3g decaffeinated coffee/Kg B.W), LC(0.2g coffee/Kg B.W), and HC(3g coffee/Kg B.W). The second five groups were WA, LDA, HDA, LCA, HCA, same as first five groups in caffieine level but treated with AFB1. The result of this experiment showed that the caffeine intake did not influence significantly on the growth and feed efficiency. But water intake was increased by caffeine intake and AFB1 treatment. The weights of pancreas and liver were increased as the caffeine intake was increased. Trypsin activities were tend to increase in concentrated coffee groups(HD, HC). AFB1 treated groups showed the higher trypsin level than the AFB1 untreated groups. Amylase activities were tend to increase in concentrated coffee groups(HD, HC) of AFB1 untreated animals. AFB1 treated did not show the additional effect on the stimulated amylase secretion by coffee. Lipase activities were tend to decrease in concentrated coffee groups(HD, HC) of AFB1 untreated animals. Lipase activities were increased in the order named WA group, coffee groups, decaffeinated coffee groups in AFB1 treated animals. AFB1 treated groups showed the higher lipase level than AFB1 untreated groups. In the histologic observation of pancreas HCA group showed more dense compound tubuloalveolar glands and proliferation of nuclei than normal. The result suggested a development of a atypia which is ongoing phase to a cancer.

The aim of this study was to ascertain the effects of beef on the quality characteristics, such as color, texture profile, water absorption ratio, volume, turbidity, and sensory evaluation, of noodle products. Various types of beef were added to the flour at a mixture ratio of ground beef (BG) 10, 15, 20, 25%; concentrated beef (BC) 9, 11, 13, 15%; and powdered beef (BP) 1, 3, 5, 7%. Each treatment was analyzed and compared with a 100% flour noodle as a control. With increasing BG, BC, and BP ratios, the L and b values for color decreased, while the a value increased, from that in the control. The hardness of the noodles treated with BG increased with increasing mixture ratios, but hardness decreased in the BC and BP treatments with increasing mixture ratios (p<0.05). The noodles with the largest beef composition in the mixtures of each treatment exhibited the highest turbidity scores, which was believed to be because the solid contents would be transferred to the soup during heating. In the sensory evaluation of cooked noodles, the BG 10%, BC 9%, and BP 1% treatments exhibited the best color. In an overall preference test, 20% of BG and 3% of BP could be added to the noodles. The best palatability was exhibited by the BG 10%, BC 13%, and BP 3% treatments.
For the prediction of the ventilation rate for removing the non-isothermal concentrated fume from the semi-enclosed space, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was done. Securing the proper ventilation conditions in emergency state such as in fire is crucial factor for the protection of the resident in the space. In the analysis for the determining the proper ventilation rate, the experimental study had the limitation for simulating the versatile conditions of fume development. The theoretical and computational method had been chosen as the alternate tool for the experimental analysis. In this study, the CFD analysis was done on the defined model which already had been done the experimental analysis by the previous workers. By comparing the prediction on the plume heights and the ventilation rates by the CFD analysis at, and in the parametric model of $1m^3$ with those of the previous experimental works, the feasibility of the computational analysis was evaluated. For the required ventilation rate analyzed by the CFD analysis was over predicted in 7.1% difference with that of the experimental results depending on the different plume height. With the comparison with the analytical Zukoski model at, the CFD analysis on the ventilation was under predicted in 8.3%. By the verification of the feasibility of the CFD analysis, the extended analysis was done for getting the extra information such as the water vapor distribution and $CO^2$ distribution in the semi-enclosed spaces.

The use of water purifiers has been increasing every year due to increased drinking water safety concerns raised by the water pollution accidents occasionally reported. Currently, more than 10 million water purifiers have been distributed in Korea, and the estimation of the purifier sales reaches two million units per year. As a result, the number of used water purifier filters that must be replaced on a regular basis has gradually increased. However, regardless of the considerations for the capacity of used filters remaining, water purifier filters were replaced and collected at regular intervals. The high cost of disposal of the used filters by landfill or incineration were required. Thus, in this study, the current status and trends of recycling technologies for used water purifier filters were reviewed. It is noted that there was insufficient statistical data to understand the current status of the difference between the number of used water filters discarded and the number of those recycled. Most studies on the recycling of old water purifier filters have concentrated on pretreatment and cleaning methods for sediment filters and membrane filters, with the goal of extending the lifespan of used filters. Further, the study suggested future study directions on the recycling of used water purifier filters, which could be useful information on establishing environmental policy to promote the recycling of used filters.

[ $6{\sim}13mg/L$ ] base water concentration on monthly BOD has been kept at the Geukrak bridge point for this research target and it indicates the water quality under the existed rank. Due to this present condition of water quality, the demage of ecology from the upper stream to the lower one of the bridge could be conjectured. Moreover, nonstructural extinction of the ecology seems to have gotten worse between both the streams of Yeoungsan River. On this research, eco-corridor between the upper stream and the lower stream of the river should be ensured, the ecological demage needs to be cut off, a dispersed discharge method which the existed method of the 1st sewage plant in Gwangju was enhanced to should be inducted for the procuring of various water ecosystem, and the conditions by the scenario suggested from this research could be applied to a water quality model. then, analysis the improvement effect of the water quality adjacent the river. From the test result, Case3-Type1 scenario is thought to be the best one. From the test result with Case3-Type1 when the concentrated discharge was never done, 0.07 mg/L of BOD concentration was increased at the lower stream where Yeoungbon B point (Haksan Bridge) is but the water improvement effect of $0.24{\sim}2.87mg/L$ is thought to have been done at the area of water deterioration.
We investigated the distribution and species composition of zooplankton in relation to hydrographical characteristics in the Korea Strait during the winter (February) and summer (July) of 2009. Satellite images of sea surface temperatures and in situ CTD data showed that the southeastern water zone (St3-5) off Jeju Island was strongly influenced by the Tsushima Current during both the winter and summer, whereas the Changjiang Diluted Water, characterized as water with relatively low salinity, was evident in the coastal waters of Jeju Island during the summer. During winter, zooplankton abundance was significantly higher than in the summer, with dominance by copepods, ostracods, siphonophorans, appendicularians, and nauplii. In both seasons, copepods represented >70% of the total zooplankton population. Calanus sinicus, a large calanoid copepod, was dominant in near the coast, and that may be associated with the intrusion of low salinity water (i.e., the Changjiang Diluted Water) along the coast. The abundance of P. parvus s.l. and A. omorii, known as neritic copepods, was mainly associated with the Korea Southern Coastal Water. Foraminiferans, Ostracods, O. plumifera, and P. aculeatus were concentrated in the southeastern water off Jeju Island during both seasons; showing their association with the Tsushima Current, which is characterized warm, high salinity water. Our results suggest that the distribution, abundance, and species composition of zooplankton are highly influenced by different water masses in the Korea Strait.

The rapid urbanization in many Asian countries has taken millions of people from the rural countryside to concentrated megacities, which eventually putting pressure on the existing water resources. The over-growing population and increasing living standard of people in the urban region of developed as well as developing countries such as Korea, China, Japan and India have witnessed a drastic change in terms of domestic water demand for the past few decades. In this study, we used the concept of potential surface water availability in the form of surface runoff for future vulnerability assessment. We focused on 42 megacities having population more than 5 million as per the United Nations (UN) census data 2020. The study shows that 30 out of 42 cities having more than 180L/p/d demand for domestic use based on various references. We have predicted the domestic water demand for all the cities on the basis of current per capita demand up to 2035 using UN projected population data. We found that the projected water demand in megacities such as Seoul, Busan, Shanghai, Ghuanzou are increasing because of high population as well as GDP growth rate. On the contrary, megacities of Japan considered in our stud shows less water demand in future due to decreasing trend of population. As per the past records provided by the local municipalities/authorities, we projected different scenarios based on the future supply for various megacities such as Chennai, Delhi, Karachi, Mumbai, Shanghai, Wuhan, etc. We found that the supply to demand ratio of these cities would be below 75% for future period and if such trend continues then the inhabitants will face serious water stress conditions. Outcomes of this study would help the local policy makers to adopt sustainable initiatives on urban water governance to avoid the severe water stress conditions in the vulnerable megacities.
The performance of an electrodialyzer for concentrating seawater is predicted by means of a computer simulation, which includes the following five steps; Step 1 mass transport; Step 2 current density distribution; Step 3 cell voltage; Step 4 NaCl concentration in a concentrated solution and energy consumption; Step 5 limiting current density. The program is developed on the basis of the following assumption; (1) Solution leakage and electric current leakage in an electrodialyzer are negligible. (2) Direct current electric resistance of a membrane includes the electric resistance of a boundary layer formed on the desalting surface of the membrane due to concentration polarization. (3) Frequency distribution of solution velocity ratio in desalting cells is equated by the normal distribution. (4) Current density i at x distant from the inlets of desalting cells is approximated by the quadratic equation. (5) Voltage difference between the electrodes at the entrance of desalting cells is equal to the value at the exits. (6) Limiting current density of an electrodialyzer is defined as average current density applied to an electrodialyzer when current density reaches the limit of an ion exchange membrane at the outlet of a desalting cell in which linear velocity and electrolyte concentration are the least. (7) Concentrated solutions are extracted from concentrating cells to the outside of the process. The validity of the computer simulation model is demonstrated by comparing the computed results with the performance of electrodialyzers operating in salt-manufacturing plants. The model makes it possible to discuss optimum specifications and operating conditions of a practical-scale electrodialyzer.
This study was carried out to find out the relationship between qualities and contraction phenomenon of silk fibers by treatment of concentrated neutral salts. The contraction effects of silk fibers showed the critical point on the treatment conditions of concentration, temperature and time, among three kinds of neutral salts such as calcium nitrate, calcium chloride and lithium bromide. But, The silk fibers, pretreated with bromide and/or formaldehyde, did not show the contraction upon treating with calcium nitrate. This indicates that tyrosine and serine can be correlated with the contraction reaction because of coupling these amino acids with bromide and formaldehyde. In conclusion, a mechanism for the contraction of silk fiber with highly concentrated calcium nitrate solution is supposed as follows. At the initial stage of ration, the water was penetrated into the amorphous regions and fibers swollen, therefore, the contraction took place mainly in amorphous regions, which have plenty of functional groups with hydroxyl residues. Then, as the calcium nitrate is penetrated into the microfibril, the gydrogen bonds of tyrosine and serine residues and broken and crystalline regions are more and more influenced by increasing concentration of calcium nitrate solution. Microgibrils of crystalline regions become entangled, contracted to linear direction and rearranged to form new stable hydrogen bonds.

Eleven phenols including two chlorophenols, eight alkylphenols and bisphenol A were derivatized with isobutylchloroformate to form their isobutoxycarbonyl derivatives. Standard phenol mixture was concentrated for the isobutoxycarbonyl (isoBOC) derivatization and analysed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The recoveries of the derivatization method of alkylphenols, chlorophenols, and bisphenol A were calculated by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-selected ion monitoring mode using two work-up methods for comparison; shaking and heating method. The linear detector responses were obtained in the concentration range of 5∼400 ng, with correlation coefficients varying from 0.9755∼0.9981. Recoveries of the alkylphenols, chlorophenols, and bisphenol A were determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-selected ion monitoring mode using two work-up methods for comparison ; the US-EPA method and the isoBOC derivatization method, Eleven phenols in water samples were extracted with dichloromethane and then concentrated. Also, solid-phase extraction (SPE) with XAD-4 and subsequent conversion to isobutoxycarbonyl derivatives for sensitive analysis with the selected ion-monitoring (SIM) mode. The recoveries were 85.1∼109.9% and 90.3∼126.6% for the US-EPA method and the isoBOC.
