Threshing operation is performed by impact, compression and friction forces inside the thresher. These values should be appropriate to the crop condition to enhance the threshing and separating efficiency and to decrease the grain damage. To analyze the threshing process inside the rasp-bar type thresher, impact, friction and compression forces were measured using transducers with strain gage circuits. To measure the impact forces and friction forces between the rasp-bar and crop, full bridge strain gage circuit was built on the rasp-bar holder. To measure the compression forces and circumferential friction forces between the concave and crop, two sets of full bridge strain gage circuits were built on the T-type concave transducer. Threshing work of wheat crop with 12% of moisture content was performed at 3 levels of compression ratio and with 3 replications. Each transducer could not measure the exact forces continuously because the transducer oscillates with the forces. However they could measure maximum forces and force distribution according to the time. Average friction coefficients between crop and concave was 0.61 not showing any significant difference according to the compression ratio. Average acceleration of the crop in the cylinder appeared from $70.6m/s^2$ to $140.8m/s^2$ according to the compression ratio. The velocity of the crop at the exit of the cylinder appeared from 10.7m/s to 15.0m/s according to the compression ratio.
This study was intended to develop the mathematical model of the head-fed type threshing unit. As the first step, the physical model of the threshing phenomena was considered to consist of four separate processes as 1) detachment process of grains, 2) movement of grains between the cylinder and concave, 3) grain penetration through stems of bundle, and 4) grain passing through concave. The mathematical and computer models were developed based on the physical models. Threshing experiments were performed and determined the distribution of grain accumulation along the cylinder shaft by varying the moisture content of grains, feeding rate, and cylinder speed. It was found that the model developed coincided very well with the experimental results for the varied operational conditions. Greater concentration of grains passing through concave toward the thresher inlet was equally true for the model and experiment work for the threshing of grains with higher moisture content and with higher cylinder-speed. The model could be used for obtaining the optimized design or for optimizing the performance of the head-fed type threshing unit if term as to power requirement for threshing may be additionally included in the developed model.

The local Nusselt numbers have been measured for a round turbulent jet impinging on the concave surface with and without rib. Liquid crystal/transient method was used to determine the Nusselt number distributions along the surface. The temperature on the surface was measured using liquid crystal and a digital color image processing system. The experiments were made for the jet Reynolds number (Re) 23,000, the dimensionless nozzle-to-surface distance (L/d) from 4 to 10, the dimensionless surface curvature (d/D) 0.056, and the rib type (height ($d_1$) 0.2 cm, pitch (p) from 1.2 to 3.2 cm). It was founded that only when $L/d{\geq}6$, the average Nusselt numbers on the concave surface with rib are higher than those without rib, mainly due to an increase in the turbulent intensity caused by the effect of rib attached to the wall surface. It was realized that the rib attached to the concave surface may no longer enhance the heat transfer rate or even lowers it depending on the rib type and flow conditions. In addition, the results by the steady-state method using the gold-film Intrex were in good agreement with those by the transient shroud method.

A polishing machine adopting a new unique structural mechanism has been developed, named as a swing-arm type polishing machine. The mechanism is such that the tool path tracks on a spherical surface, of which the diameter is adjusted by setting up the machine mechanism properly. It has a strong benefit especially for polishing axis-symmetric concave mirror surfaces. The swing-arm type polishing machine with 5-axes has been designed in order to polish a concave mirror surface lip to diameter of 2 meters. The drawings are made using 3D CAD and strain-stress analysis has been done by finite element method. AC servo-motor has been used to move the swing arm and a operating software has been developed using a LapVIEW tool. Result of the test run was satisfactory which convinces the usefulness of the swing-arm type polishing machine.

In shipbuilding, accurate fabrication of curved hull plates is one of the most important steps, since the shape of ship hull, which is very critical in the overall performance of a ship, is a collection of such plates. The curved hull plates forming process requires a significant amount of time by skilled workers in shipbuilding. In general, the workers cause thermal distortion in the plate and forming initial shape using gas heat source. So shipbuilding companies need skilled workers who have long experience. To solve the problem, a lot of researchers tried to develop automation system for curved hull plates. In this paper, we propose automatic heating system with gantry robot, high frequency induction heater to replace the gas heat source and automatic measurement system. We apply the system to forming concave type plate that is actually used in ship manufacturing. In addition, a system was developed to automatically generate heating information, such as the heating location and the heating speed, for actual heating process. Then the system was applied to the actual heating material. It is shown that the proposed triangle heating pattern makes desired concave shape successfully. The induction heating system showed that it can be used for automation system of curved hull plates forming process replacing gas heat source.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate canal shaping ability after canal preparation by using engine-driven nickel-titanium file and endosonic file in curved canals. 30 mesiobuccal canals of molars extracted within recent 3 months were divided into 3 groups. Group I and group II were prepared by using engine-driven nickel-titanium Gates-Glidden drill type and the engine-driven nickel-titanium file type. Group III prepared by using en do sonic file. The image of preinstrumented canals was taken by X-ray. The image of postinstrumented canal was taken by X-ray in the same condition of preinstrumentation. A magnified X-ray image on magnifier screen was traced and then compared the preinstrumentated canal image with the postinstrumentated canal image by superimposing method. The following results were obtained : 1. In the change of canal curvature, the engine-driven nickel-titanium Gates-Glidden drill type showed the least change and the ultrasonically filing showed the greatest change. 2. In the percentage of canal enlargement, the engine-driven nickel-titanium file type was greatest at all level(p<0.05), the apex of all group was the greatest, the difference of ultrasonically filing group showed greater between apex and cervix. 3. The percentage of canal enlargement on convex side was greater than that of on concave side in apex of each group(p<0.05). In the ultrasonically filing group, both sides of canal enlargement showed sharply difference(p<0.01). 4. The percentage of canal enlargement on convex side was greater than that of on concave side in the third of cervix of the engine-driven nickel-titanium file type and the ultrasonically filling. The percentage of canal enlargement of convex and concave side in the third of middle of the engine-driven nickel-titanium Gates-Glidden drill type show a similar canal enlargement between convex side and concave side. As above result, the engine-driven nickel-titanium file type was greater in canal enlargement than the other instruments. The engine-driven nickel-titanium Gates-Glidden dirll type was efficient endodontic instrument for curved canal preparation because it was least change in canal curvature.

For protection of the cylinder wall of the ball mill for grinding raw ore. the inner side of the cylinder is covered with rubber liner. The rubber is easily worn down because the rubber relatively soft compared with raw ore. So the rubber liner in the ball mill cylinder must be replaced almost every year and the cost for replacing rubber liner formidable. In this paper, for reducing or excluding the cost of replacing rubber liner the basalt liner is designed. The basalt materials are generally harder than raw ore and the basalt liner in the ball mill does not wear down and so it can be used almost permanently. The concave surfaces are made on the liner of the ball mill and the liner in the cylinder wall plays also the role of raising the steel balls mixed in the raw ore. The section profiles of the concave surface have an important effect on the performance of the ball mill. The deep concave grooves raise the steel balls to high levels and give the large potential energy to the steel balls impacting to the raw ore. But if the concave grooves are too deep. the steel balls raised too high by the concave grooves fly along the parabolic path and reach to the other side of cylinder wall and so the steel balls do not play the roles of grinding the raw ore. The forces acting to a steel ball in a concave groove of the cylinder liner are also analyzed in this paper. The formulas calculating the height and the impact point of the steel ball are introduced and presented. Based to these formulas, the optimum section profiles of the basalt liner are presented.

We deal with the following elliptic equations: $\{-div({\varphi}^{\prime}(\left|{\nabla}z\right|^2){\nabla}z)+V(x)\left|z\right|^{{\alpha}-2}z={\lambda}{\rho}(x)\left|z\right|^{r-2}z+h(x,z),\\z(x){\rightarrow}0,\;as\;\left|x\right|{\rightarrow}{\infty},$ in ℝN , where N ≥ 2, 1 < p < q < N, 1 < α ≤ p*q'/p', α < q, 1 < r < min{p, α}, φ(t) behaves like tq/2 for small t and tp/2 for large t, and p' and q' the conjugate exponents of p and q, respectively. Here, V : ℝN → (0, ∞) is a potential function and h : ℝN × ℝ → ℝ is a Carathéodory function. The present paper is devoted to the existence of at least two distinct nontrivial solutions to quasilinear elliptic problems of Schrödinger type, which provides a concave-convex nature to the problem. The primary tools are the well-known mountain pass theorem and a variant of Ekeland's variational principle.

Pencil-curve machining, which is a single-pass ball-end milling along a concave edge on adie surface, is widely employed in die-surface machining. The cutter-path used for pencil-curve machining, which is the trajectory of the “ball-center point” of a ball-endmill sliding along a concave-edge region on the die surface, is called pencil-curve. Presented in the paper is a pencil-curve tracing algorithm in which “concave-type” sharp edges are computed from a “virtually digitized” model of the tool-envelope surface. The resulting “initial” pencil-cures are then refuted by applying a series of fairing operations. illustrative examples and methods for enhancing accuracy are also presented. The proposed pencil-curve tracing algorithm has been successfully implemented in a commercial CAM system specialized in die-machining and in the CAD/CAM system CATIA.

The aim of this paper is to develop the B & B type algorithms for globally minimizing concave function under 0-1 knapsack constraint. The linear convex envelope underestimating the concave object function is introduced for the bounding operations which locate the vertices of the solution set. And the simplex containing the solution set is sequentially partitioned into the subsimplices over which the convex envelopes are calculated in the candidate problems. The adoption of cutting plane method enhances the efficiency of the algorithm. These mean valid inequalities with respect to the integer solution which eliminate the nonintegral points before the bounding operation. The implementations are effectively concretized in connection with the branching stategys.
