  • Hygroscopic aerosols can rapidly grow in size by steam condensation even under subsaturated steam conditions. Much efforts have been made to handle this process, but there have been computational difficulties in handling the condensational growth of hygroscopic aerosols by contentional methods. A recently released computer code, CONTAIN 2.0, employs a new technique called Moving Sectional Method(MSM) to handle the growth of hygroscopic aerosols. As a part of the model verification efforts, we have used the code to simulate the VANAM M3U hygroscopic aerosol experiment. We assess the accuracies of the new MSM and the conventional Fixed Sectional Method(ESM) based on the simulation results. Also presented are discussions about the robustness of the MSM.

  • In this paper, the FLVSC (Fuzzy Logic Variable Structure controller), of which control rules are extracted from the concepts of the VSC(Variable Structure control) is proposed and diesgned for drum motor(BLDC motor) in home VCR. The FLC (Fuzzy Logic Controller) based on linguistic rules has the advantages of not needing of some exact mathermatical model for plant to be controlled. The proposed method has the characteristics which are viewed in conventional VSC, e.g. insensitivity to a class of distrubances, parameter variations and uncertainites in a sliding mode. In addition, the method has the properties of the FLC-noise rejection capability etc. The computer simulation and experiment using DSP(TMS320C30) have been carried out for the servo control of VCR drum motor to show the usefulness of the proposed method.

  • The impedance bandwidth and radiation characteristics of an aperture-coupled microstrip line-fed patch antenna (ACMPA) with a high permittivity (${\varepsilon}_r=10$) feed substrate suitable for integration with a monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) are investigated for various feed substrate thicknesses through an experiment and computer simulation. The impedance bandwidth of an ACMPA with a high permittivity feed substrate increases as the feed substrate thickness decreases. Furthermore, the front-to-back ratio of an ACMPA with a high permittivity feed substrate increases and the cross-polarization level decreases as the feed substrate thickness decreases. As the impedance bandwidth of an ACMPA with a high permittivity feed substrate increases and its radiation characteristics improve as the feed substrate thickness decreases, the ACMPA configuration becomes suitable for integration with an MMIC.

  • This paper presents that generation and propagation mechanism of low frequency current ripples generated by a rectification effect of an inverter in fuel cell generation system is analyzed. The ripple reduction methode using hardware components such as capacitors and inductors is examined to reduce low frequency current ripples. A new fast and robust low frequency current ripple elimination algorithm is then proposed to incorporate a single loop current controller, which directly controls fuel cell current, without any extra hardware. The proposed algorithm can completely eliminate this current ripple as well as an overshoot or undershoot is significantly reduced. And the de link voltage and output current are well regulated by inverter controller. The validity of proposed algorithm is verified both computer simulation using PSIM 6.0 and experiment with a 1kW laboratory prototype.

  • The uninterruptible power supply (UPS) has become an integral part of modern computer and communication system to assure a continued and stable operation by providing an uninterruptible power to vital equipments. Various control methods have come to the fore in recent times with the advent of high frequency switching technologies. This paper describes the DSP control method for three phase UPS inverter which guarantees the sinusoidal output voltage under nonlinear load conditions. The proposed control scheme is verified by simulation and experiment.riment.

  • In this paper, a practical model for evaluating and comparing the bit error rates(BERs) due to adjacent channel mutual interference in a synchronous and asynchronous frequency hopped spread spectrum multiple access(FH-SSMA) radio communication systems is proposed. After implementing the actual FH radio in both the sychronous and asynchronous case, the BER is computed and measured. An experiment of this system in mobile tactical environments reveals that the performance in the asynchronous case is lower than that of the synchronous case. The computer simulation model is an efficient tool for designing practical FH radios in mobile communication environments.

  • In order to realize the speed control of an induction motor, the information of the rotor speed is needed. So the speed sensor as an encoder or a pulse generator is used to obtain it. But the use of speed sensor occur the some problems in the control system of an induction motor. To solve the problems, the appropriate speed estimation algorithm is used instead of the speed sensor. Also there is the limitation to improve the speed control performance of an induction motor using the existing speed estimation algorithm. Therefore, in this paper, intelligent speed estimator using Fuzzy-Neural systems as adaptive laws in Model Reference Adaptive System is proposed so as to improve the existing estimation algorithm and ,using the rotor speed estimated by the Proposed estimator, the speed control of an induction motor without speed sensor is performed. The computer simulation and the experiment is executed to prove the performance of the speed control system usinu the proposed speed estimator.

  • The instantaneous voltage drop is occurred when the fault is happened on the nearby feeders. The instantaneous voltage drop is continued during relatively short period. But, the effect of it can be very severe to some sensitive devices. That is, it can be the reason of restart or malfunction of some devices. And these phenomenons can cause the enormous economical damage and shorten the lifetime of the devices. In this paper, the device which can compensate the instantaneous voltage drop, is studied. Through the computer simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC, the validity of the control algorithm using peak detection method is verified. And the Dynamic Voltage Restorer(DVR) prototype is designed and constructed. Through the experiment, the function and performance of the DVR prototype is verified.

  • This paper proposes a real-time OFT implementation technique which is based on the finite-bit approximation of the DFT coefficients. The effect of the approximation is analytically investigated and its result is obtained in the form of an equation of noise to signal ratio. The analysis result is confirmed by comparing it with those of the computer simulation and the actual experiment for human sleep EEG data.

  • Recently, in optical storage device technical trends, the size of optical drive is slimmer to adopt notebook computer and the power of actuator is higher to achieve the high transfer rate. However, these trends of optical disc drives tend to increase the temperature of the actuator part, it causes some problems on the performance of optical parts - the resonance frequency of the actuator is down to lower band and the objective lens, coil and magnet are easily damaged. In this study, to overcome these thermal problems, the numerical simulations of heat transfer were performed. As the result of simulations, the thermal characteristic of the hybrid actuator is better than the previous design. And, it shows the good dynamic performance in experiment.
