We have developed a novel driving system of 5' true color FED using voltage controlled PWM method which has current control effect. The proposed method has the advantage of voltage controlled pulse width modulation method and current control method. Also, we propose a new circuit model of FED subpixel for circuit simulation of FED driving circuits, considering some parasitic effects, i.e., cross talk, line coupling effect and leakage current to the adjacent cathode lines. Output stage of the data driving circuit is optimized using the proposed circuit model. In video data processing, FED controller uses the parallel processing of R.G.B input data, so duty ratio is maximized and brightness of FED increases. With this results, no noise and high quality performance is achieved in display of 5' true color FED.

Recently, DDSs(Distributed Database Systems) have been implemented on V AN(V alue Added Network) as we know the amazing expansion of information network. DDS can yield significant cost and response time advantages over centralized systems for geographically distributed organizations. However, inappropriate design can result in high cost and poor response time to maintain the database at each site. In a DDS design, the main problem is how to select proper computer and how to allocate data fragment into a proper site. In this paper, we address DDS design problem of selecting the proper class of computers and the allocating data files on VAN. Also, the formulated model includes two objectives, the waited response time and the investment cost to include their relationship. Specially, the formulation of waited response time is based on M/M/1 queueing system to evaluate more precisely. GA(Genetic Algorithm), a kind of heuristic search method, is developed to search an optimal solution in the proposed design model and we show the simulation result to examine the algorithm performance.

In this paper, an alternative finite memory structure(FMS) smoothing filter is developed for discrete-time state-space model with a control input. To obtain the FMS smoothing filter, unbiasedness will be required beforehand in addition to a performance criteria of minimum variance. The FMS smoothing filter is obtained by directly solving an optimization problem with the unbiasedness constraint using only finite measurements and inputs on the most recent window. The proposed FMS smoothing filter is shown to have intrinsic good properties such as deadbeat and time-invariance. In addition, the proposed FMS smoothing filter is shown to be equivalent to existing FMS filters according to the delay length between the measurement and the availability of its estimate. Finally, to verify intrinsic robustness of the proposed FMS smoothing filter, computer simulations are performed for a temporary model uncertainty. Simulation results show that the proposed FMS smoothing filter can be better than the standard FMS filter and Kalman filter.
Age of Information (AoI) has been introduced in wireless networked control systems (WNCSs) to guarantee timely status updates. In addition, as the edge computing (EC) architecture has been deployed in NCS, EC close to sensors can be exploited to collect status updates from sensors and provide control decisions to actuators. However, when lots of sensors simultaneously deliver status updates, EC can be overloaded, which cannot satisfy the AoI requirement. To mitigate this problem, this paper uses actuators with computing capability that can directly receive the status updates from sensors and determine the control decision without the help of EC. To analyze the AoI of the actuation update via EC or directly using actuators, this paper developed an analytic model based on timing diagrams. Extensive simulation results are included to verify the analytic model and to show the AoI with various settings.
Real-Time Hybrid Simulation (RTHS) is a powerful and cost-effective dynamic experimental technique. To implement a stable and accurate RTHS, time delay present in the experiment loop needs to be compensated. This delay is mostly introduced by servo-hydraulic actuator dynamics and can be reduced by applying appropriate compensators. Existing compensators have demonstrated effective performance in achieving good tracking performance. Most of them have been focused on their application in cases where the structure under investigation is subjected to inputs with relatively low frequency bandwidth such as earthquake excitations. To advance RTHS as an attractive technique for other engineering applications with broader excitation frequency, a discrete-time feedforward compensator is developed herein via various optimization techniques to enhance the performance of RTHS. The proposed compensator is unique as a discrete-time, model-based feedforward compensator. The feedforward control is chosen because it can substantially improve the reference tracking performance and speed when the plant dynamics is well-understood and modeled. The discrete-time formulation enables the use of inherently stable digital filters for compensator development, and avoids the error induced by continuous-time to discrete-time conversion during the compensator implementation in digital computer. This paper discusses the technical challenges in designing a discrete-time compensator, and proposes several optimal solutions to resolve these challenges. The effectiveness of compensators obtained via these optimal solutions is demonstrated through both numerical and experimental studies. Then, the proposed compensators have been successfully applied to RTHS tests. By comparing these results to results obtained using several existing feedforward compensators, the proposed compensator demonstrates superior performance in both time delay and Root-Mean-Square (RMS) error.

Body surface potential map, an electric potential distribution on the body torso surface, enables us to infer the electrical activities of the heart. Therefore, observing electric potential projected to the torso surface can be highly useful for diagnosing heart diseases such as coronary occlusion. The BSPM for the heart of a patient show a higher level of sensitivity than 12-lead ECG. Relevant research has been mostly based on clinical statistics obtained from patients, and, therefore, a simulation for a variety of pathological phenomena of the heart is required. In this study, by using computer simulation, a body surface potential map was implemented according to various occlusion locations (distal, mid, proximal occlusion) in the left anterior descending coronary artery. Electrophysiological characteristics of the body surface during the ST segment period were observed and analyzed based on an ST isointegral map. We developed an integrated system that takes into account the cellular to organ levels, and performed simulation regarding the electrophysiological phenomena of the heart that occur during the first 5 minutes (stage 1) and 10 minutes (stage 2) after commencement of coronary occlusion. Subsequently, we calculated the bipolar angle and amplitude of the ST isointegral map, and observed the correlation between the relevant characteristics and the location of coronary occlusion. In the result, in the ventricle model during the stage 1, a wider area of ischemia led to counterclockwise rotation of the bipolar angle; and, during the stage 2, the amplitude increased when the ischemia area exceeded a certain size.
Contrast-enhanced CT has an important role in the assessment of liver lesions. However, the optimal protocol to get most effective result is not clear. The main principle for deciding injection protocol is to optimize lesion detectability by rapid scanning when lesion-to-liver contrast is maximum. For this purpose, we developed a physiological model of contrast medium enhancement based on the compartment modeling and pharmacokinetics. Blood supply to liver was modeled in two paths. This dual supply character distinguishes the CT enhancement of liver from that of the other organs. The first path is by hepatic artery and the second is by portal vein. It is assumed that only hepatic artery can supply blood to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) compartment. It is known that this causes the difference of contrast enhancement between normal liver tissue and hepatic tumor. By solving differential equations for each compartment simultaneously using computer program Matlab, CT contrast-enhancement curves were simulated. Simulated enhancement curves for aortic, hepatic, portal vein, and HCC compartments were compared with mean enhancement curves from 24 patients exposed to the same protocols as simulation. These enhancement curves were in a good agreement. Furthermore, we simulated lesion-to-liver curves for various injection protocols, and analyzed the effects. These may help to optimize the scanning protocols for good diagnosis.

Breakaway support for small signs of size $0.293\;m^2{\sim}0.360\;m^2$ using indented tube type bolt of D12 mm with 6 mm inner diameter has been developed and the structural strength of the support system for the wind load was verified through static shear and tension tests. One important value in understanding the dynamic behavior of sign post and impact vehicle is the fracture energy of the sign support. In this study, fracture energy needed to break the sign support was estimated by pendulum test and computer simulation using LS-DYNA program. Support system composed of 3 indented bolts was found to sustain the 43.1 kg$\sim$51.2 kg wind load safely. Fracture energy for one indented bolt was measured as 163.3J from the pendulum test, and was calculated as 153J from the LS-DYNA simulation. The closeness between these two values verified the validity of the simulation model.
Soil temperature is one of the most important environmental factors that govern hydrological and biogeochemical processes related to diffuse pollution. In this study, considering the snowmelting and the soil freezing-thawing processes, a set of computer codes to estimate winter soil temperature has been developed for CAMEL (Chemicals, Agricultural Management and Erosion Losses), a distributed watershed model. The model was calibrated and validated against the field measurements for three months at 4 sites across the study catchment in a rural area of Yeoju, Korea. The degree of agreement between the simulated and the observed soil temperature is good for the soil surface ($R^2$ 0.71~0.95, RMSE $0.89{\sim}1.49^{\circ}C$). As for the subsurface soils, however, the simulation results are not as good as for the soil surface ($R^2$ 0.51~0.97, RMSE $0.51{\sim}5.08^{\circ}C$) which is considered resulting from vertically-homogeneous soil textures assumed in the model. The model well simulates the blanket effect of snowpack and the latent heat flux in the soil freezing-thawing processes. Although there is some discrepancy between the simulated and the observed soil temperature due to limitations of the model structure and the lack of data, the model reasonably well simulates the temporal and spatial distributions of the soil temperature and the snow water equivalent in accordance with the land uses and the topography of the study catchment.

Electrical energy is an essential component in present societies, which is an important basis for our technological society. In the design of new power infrastructure, it is important to consider the psychological aspects of how our culture considers and aspects its development as an integral component of the community environment. The construction of new high voltage overhead transmission lines has become a controversial issue for public policy of government due to social opposition. The members of community are concerned about how these power lines may have an impact on their lives, basically caused by their effects on health and safety. The landscape and visual impact is one of the most impact that can be easily perceived for local community. The computer 3D simulation of new landscape is illustrated by a real life use corresponding to the selection of the power line route with least observability for local community. This paper used ArcGIS(geographic information system tool) for planning, survey, basic route and detailed route, route for implementation of transmission line corridor. Also, the paper showed the map of natural environment, living environment, safety and altitude using database of power line corridor, and transmission siting model was developed by this study. The suggested landscape of computer simulation with lowest visibility on a power line zone can contribute to reducing oppositions of local community and accelerating the construction of new power lines.
