  • The spent fuel rod extracting machine is automatically operated in high radioactive environment, so high reliability of operation is required. In this paper, to enhance the reliability of this machine by providing a close monitoring capability. a real time graphic simulation method is suggested. This method utilizes conventional IGRIP (Interactive Graphics Robot Instruction Program) 3D graphic simulation tool to visualize and simulate the 3D graphic model of this machine. Also, the dedicated protocol is defined for transmission of the operational data of the machine. The real time graphic simulation is realized by developing the socket module between a graphic workstation and a machine control computer through the TCP/IP network and by dividing the 3D graphic simulation GSL(Graphic Simulation Language) program as a small sized sub routine. The suggested method is implemented while automatically operating the rod extracting machine. The result of implementation shows that the real time 3D graphic simulation is well synchronized with the actual machine according to the operational data.

  • This paper presents a design and implementation of CAD(Computer-Aided Design) system with tools and design environments for IC(Intergrated Circuits)design. The CAD system can be easily installed in various sites with limited resources, since most CAD tools and design environments are available in the public-domain and Unix & X Window-based PC-386 and Workstation is used for the hardware platform. In order to improve the flexibility of the CAD system, objects are defined in the context of tools and environments` and object tables are programmed to describe the integration of CAD tools and design environments. During the execution, tool-objects deal with intertool communication and round-robin mechanism to incrementally control the execution of CAD tools. The IC design of LPC(Linear Predictive Coding) Speech Synthesizer is carried out to find out improvements and bugs of the CAD system.

  • Telecommuting becomes a new form of work according to the development of computer and telecommunication technology. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the interior space planning of telecommuting centers by means of surveying office workers' opinions. The major findings of this research are as follows. The opinion about whether to use telecommuting center if provided is showed highly positively. In the matter of space type of telecommuting center, 'mixing type I (open plan office but division with high partition)' is the most preferred, the next is 'closed type'. The most preferred type of workstation is 'individual space type ', the next if 'X type' and the third is 'link type'. referred partition height is '1m300-1,500mm'.

  • Development of information technology makes a telemedicine system feasible along with the traditional medical practice of visiting a hospital (or clinic). This telemedicine workstation would include a PACS interface and between inpatient and outpatient HIS/RIS/PACS transaction protocol. Although this system has adopted PACS, this technology has been available for severe year the integration of the system into clinical operation has had limited success due to stringent requirements of radiologists as well as the load demanded on the system.

  • Small PACS based on a personal computer or CR has initially been designed to improve the performance of cost-effective PACS implementation. In that system, Wavelet compression scheme is newly adopted to store images hierarchically to storage unit, and retrieve and display images progressively or display workstation. In this compression method, image is decomposed into subclasses of image by wavelet transform, and then the subclasses of image are vector quantized using a multiresolution codebook.

  • Small axial fans have become widely used as cooling devices in recent years. Because of their increasing importance, studies have been conducted on ways to improve the performance and reduce the noise of such fans. In this report, a small axial fan with a diameter of 85 mm (a type popularity used in personal computer or workstation) was selected for further examination. The influence on aerodynamic performance and noise of such frame design parameters as blade tip clearance results in a decrease of discrete frequency noise and an increase of broad-spectrum noise. As for the most suitable design refinement in terms of fan efficiency, we found that the treatment of outlet corner roundness and altering spoke skew to the direction counter to that of fan rotation was effective.

  • The parallel computer cluster system has been known as the powerful tool to solve a complex physical phenomenon numerically. The numerical analysis of large size of Li-ion battery pack, which has a complex physical phenomenon, requires a large amount of computing time. In this study, the numerical analyses were conducted for comparing the computing efficiency between the single workstation and the parallel cluster system both with multicore CPUs'. The result shows that the parallel cluster system took the time 80 times faster than the single work station for the same battery pack model. The performance of cluster system was increased linearly with more CPU cores being increased.

  • In medical applications, the cooperation work using computer network is in the spotlight as next generation technology, because it offers sharing of equipments, knowledge of specialists, and data and surmounts the limitations of geographical position and time. We present a prototype of telepresent surgical simulation system in this treatise. It is a telemedicine system using volume image, which is reconstructed from radiological images such as MRI and CT. It is used as a tool for surgical simulation among telepresent doctors. It provides the functions of conference control, volume reconstruction and manipulation, and multimedia database management among one server and multi-clients through high-speed network. It is implemented on Unix workstation using X-windows and C language, TCP/IP protocol and UNiSQL as DBMS.

  • Objective: This article aims to report the results of ergonomic evaluation of some university laboratories. Background: Laboratory researchers are at risk for musculoskeletal injuries during routine laboratory procedures. However, little attention has paid to the working conditions of laboratory researchers, especially in Korea. Method: A checklist and questionnaire was developed and used to analyze the work conditions of 27 laboratories of chemistry, biology and pharmacy. Results: It was found that glove box, clean bench, and computer workstation are better than microscopy, and fume hood tasks, from ergonomic point of view. Conclusion: No domestic guideline is available for ergonomic intervention of laboratories. Further attention and studies are anticipated to improve the working conditions of laboratories.

  • Group communication is becoming increasingly popular in Internet applications such as videoconferences, online chatting programs, games, and gambling. For secure communications, the integrity of messages, member authentication, and confidentiality must be provided among group members. To maintain message integrity, all group members use the Group Key (GK) for encrypting and decrypting messages while providing enough security to protect against passive attacks. Tree-based Group Diffie-Hellman (TGDH) is an efficient group key agreement protocol to generate the GK. TGDH assumes all members have an equal computing power. One of the characteristics of distributed computing and grid environments is heterogeneity; the member can be at a workstation, a laptop or even a mobile computer. Member reordering in the TDGH protocol could potentially lead to an improved protocol; such reordering should capture the heterogeneity of the network as well as latency. This research investigates dynamic reordering mechanisms to consider not only the overhead involved but also the scalability of the proposed protocol.
