  • Scan techniques are almost mandatorily adopted in designing current System-on-a-Chip (SoC) to enhance testability, but inadvertently secret keys can be stolen through the scan test channels of crypto SoCs. An efficient scan design technique is proposed in this paper to protect the secret key of an Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) core embedded in an SoC. A new instruction is added to IEEE 1149.1 boundary scan to use a fake key instead of user key, in which the fake key is chosen with meticulous care to improve the testability as well. Our approach can be implemented as user defined logic with conventional boundary scan design, hence no modification is necessary to any crypto IP core. Conformance to the IEEE 1149.1 standards is completely preserved while yielding better performance of area, power, and fault coverage with highly robust protection of the secret user key.

  • In the early stage of Web-based Instruction, it didn't gain preference in spite of it's benefit of convenience. The main reason is, I think, the lack of generality at the education system which eventually results in unsatisfactory facilities compared with the requirement of teachers and students. And the early systems don't make good use of the plenty data in distributed environment, and don't show so good reliablity due to lack of systematic design and development. In this paper, we suggest WBI developing technology using the concept of WBSE. WBI developing is consist of component of pre-developed education software, integration of component using its reusability, and production of more requirement-satisfactory education software.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop, through the integration of instructional theory, a Courseware and to investigate the effectiveness of a web-based computer assisted instruction(WBI) program for preventing drug abuse, a serious problem for youth problem. During the first stage of this study done "Drug Abuse Prevention" Courseware was developed based on, Gagn & Brigg's instructional design theory, Keller's ARCS theory and the CAI model of Hannafin & Peck. For the second stage, the courseware was used to provide education for students adolescents in drug abuse prevention. This study used an quasi-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design with a convenience sample of 36 male high school students who were at one high school located in Seoul. Data were collected using self-reported questionnaires which included a learning achievement tool, the Keller's IMMS (Instructional Material Motivation Survey), on attitudes to drug use, and on responses to the WBI instruction. Prior to the experiment, the "drug abuse prevention" learning method and the procedures of the study were explained to the students, and then the learning achievement of the subjects was measured as a pretest. The students were then given 2 weeks WBI utilizing the courseware. A post-test which included the pre-test learning achievement questionnaire and a survey of learning motivation and attitudes toward drug were given two weeks after the education was completed. The data analysis was done using SPSS/PC. Paired t-test was used to analyze the differences between the pre-test and post-test scores for learning achievement. The results of the analysis are as follows: There were significant differences in learning achievement between the pre-test and post-test(t=-18.62, p=0.000). The hypothesis, that learning achievement will be higher, after the class has used the courseware, than before was supported. The scores for learning motivation and attitudes toward drugs were also higher than the results of existing studies. In conclusion, this study suggests that WBI is an effective learning method in the prevention of drug abuse for adolescents as it can be used for self-learning and repeated learning as assisted instruction. Recommendation would be given that further research needs to be develped in the courseware by cognitive learning style and by multimedia courseware and virtual reality system.

  • Prefetching aims at reducing memory latency by fetching, in advance, data that are likely to be requested by the processor in a near future. The effectiveness of prefetching is determined by how accurate the prediction on the needed instructions and data is. Most previous studies on prefetching were limited to proposing a particular prefetch scheme and its performance evaluation, paying little attention to theoretical aspects of prefetching. This paper focuses on the theoretical aspects of instruction prefetching. For this purpose, we propose a clairvoyant prefetch model that makes use of perfect history information. Based on this theoretical model, we analyzed upper limits on the prefetch prediction accuracies of the SPEC benchmarks. The results show that the prefetch prediction accuracy is very high when there is no cache. However, as the size of the instruction cache increases, the prefetch prediction accuracy drops drastically. For example, in the case of the spice benchmark, the prefetch prediction accuracy drops from 53% to 39% when the cache size increases from 2Kbyte to 16Kbyte (assuming 16byte block size). These results indicate that as the cache size increases, most localities are captured by the cache and that instruction prefetching based on the information extracted from the references that missed in the cache suffers from prediction inaccuracies

  • Data dependencies are one of major hurdles to limit ILP(Instruction Level Parallelism), so several related works have suggested that the limit imposed by data dependencies can be overcome to some extent with use of the data value prediction. Hybrid value predictor can obtain the high prediction accuracy using advantages of various predictors, but it has a defect that same instruction has overlapping entries in all predictor. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid value predictor which achieves high performance by using the information of static and dynamic classification. The proposed predictor can enhance the prediction accuracy and efficiently decrease the prediction table size of predictor, because it allocates each instruction into single best-suited predictor during the fetch stage by using the information of static classification. Also, it can enhance the prediction accuracy because it selects a best- suited prediction method for the “Unknown”pattern instructions by using the dynamic classification mechanism. Simulation results based on the SimpleScalar/PISA tool set and the SPECint95 benchmarks show the average correct prediction rate of 85.1% by using the static classification mechanism. Also, we achieve the average correction prediction rate of 87.6% by using static and dynamic classification mechanism.

  • We are at the onset of a major revolution in education, a revolution unparalleled since the invention of the printing press. The computer will be the instrument of this revolution. Computers and computer application are everywhere these days. Everyone can't avoid the influence of the computer in today's world. The computer is no longer a magical, unfamiliar tool that is used only by researchers or scholars or scientists. The computer helps us do our jobs and even routine tasks more effectively and efficiently. More importantly, it gives us power never before available to solve complex problems. Mathematics instruction in secondary schools is frequently perceived to be more a amendable to the use of computers than are other areas of the school curriculum. This is based on the perception of mathematics as a subject with clearly defined objectives and outcomes that can be reliably measured by devices readily at hand or easily constructed by teachers or researchers. Because of this reason, the first large-scale computerized curriculum projects were in mathematics, and the first educational computer games were mathematics games. And now, the entire mathematics curriculum appears to be the first of the traditional school curriculum areas to be undergoing substantial trasformation because of computers. Recently, many research-Institutes of our country are going to study on computers in orders to use it in mathematics education, but the study is still start ing-step. In order to keep abreast of this trend necessity, and to enhance mathematics teaching/learning which is instructed lecture-based teaching/learning at the present time, this study aims to develop/present practical method of computer-using. This is devided into three methods. 1. Programming teaching/learning method This part is presented the following five types which can teach/learn the mathematical concepts and principle through concise program. (Type 1) Complete a program. (Type 2) Know the given program's content and predict the output. (Type 3) Write a program of the given flow-chart and solve the problem. (Type 4) Make an inference from an error message, find errors and correct them. (Type 5) Investigate complex mathematical fact through program and annotate a program. 2. Problem-solving teaching/learning method solving This part is illustrated how a computer can be used as a tool to help students solve realistic mathematical problems while simultaneously reinforcing their understanding of problem-solving processes. Here, four different problems are presented. For each problem, a four-stage problem-solving model of polya is given: Problem statement, Problem analysis, Computer program, and Looking back/Looking ahead. 3. CAI program teaching/learning method This part is developed/presented courseware of sine theorem section (Mathematics I for high school) in order to avail individualized learning or interactive learning with teacher. • The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Department of Korea have formulated various policy for development of teacher's ICT competence. But most of efforts expended upon ICT utilization currently, emphasize the ability which can handle computer skillfully than the ability for practical use in instruction, so that cannot induce distinct competence according to the duties and operations of teachers. This study aims to make scales for teacher's ability of ICT utilization in education of Korea. For the original purpose of evaluation, this tool made by job analysis and comparative studies with the existing appraisal standards. It can be the standards for evaluation of teacher's wholly duties on ICT applied education and proper self-evaluation tool for improvement of teacher's ability on ICT utilizing instruction. I processed measurement value of participant of Gwangju and Jeollanamdo area in this system and analyzed the level of teacher's abilities using ICT, a sex gap, regional difference, duty position difference and education career difference etc.

  • The present education situations are rapidly changing to adapt to 'the Knowledge & Information-based Society'. Especially, the implementation of 'the 7th National Curriculum' put strong emphasis on the learner-centered education that refers to the ability grouping. Therefore, it is necessary that the change from a traditional teaching method to a learner-centered one in geography education will take place. This study will present a design of geography ability grouping through the Task-Solving Learning. This ability grouping method is suitable for the large class. And this study also presents a strategy by applying WBI, which make use of the advantage of computer and constructivism. This WBI model can be applied properly to many teaching-learning methods that includes Self-Directed Learning, Collaborate Learning, Ability Grouping, and Applying ICT Instruction. Actually they are demanded in the current education. A geography-classroom will have an accessible internet program as a precondition for this instruction.
