  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the computer-naive children's preconceptions of computer concept, anxieties for computer, the changes in preconceptions and anxieties by computer literacy teaching, and the effect of CASI(Computer Assisted Science Instruction) on the science achievement. For this study, 42 5th graders were sampled. They were divided into two groups, experimental group(male:10, female:11) and control group(male:12, female:9). Each group was randomly assigned in the elementary school. Preconceptions about computer were examined by individual interview. Computer anxiety score was measured by questionaires. The questionaires developed in this study consisted of total 21 items measured by Chronbach ${\alpha}$ (0.93) and Total Item Correlationtp(p=0.01, r = $0.40{\sim}0.72$). Computer literacy curriculum based on children's preconceptions was developed and then was treated for experimental group as a computer literacy course. Preconceptions of computer, computer anxiety, and CASI achievements were compared between experimental group and control group in pre and post test. The results of this study are as follows; 1) children's preconceptions of computer showed various non-scientific concepts as animism and obvious visiual thinking. 2) children's misconceptions and anxieties about computer did not show significant differences in terms of learning experience of computer. 3) computer literacy had an effect on eliminating children's misconception about computer. 4) computer literacy had an effect on diminishing children's computer anxiety. 5) children's misconceptions and anxieties about computer showed significant inter-correlation. 6) children's misconceptions and anxieties about computer were appeared negative effect on CASI achievements. As the results, children's misconception and anxieties about computer had an effect on CASI acheivements. Therefore before performing CASI, more systematic computer literacy might be taught in formal education.

  • The computing environment is rapidly changing to mobile device base, with the development of computer technology. Until now, digital literacy education has been based on desktop PC education, but it is time to change it into literacy education suitable for mobile environment. In this paper, we propose a mobile-based digital literacy MoDL (Mobile Device Digital Literacy). MoDL proposes three phases. One is Mobile Based Digital Environment (MoDE), which builds a mobile digital environment, seconds is Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) class method when using it for education. Finally, MoDLI (MoDL Instruction) for learning mobile literacy is presented step by step. To verify the validity of the proposed, eight experts were surveyed so that the Content Validity Ratio was calculated. As a result, CVR was ensured in all items except for the applicability of MoDLI.

  • Computer and Information Literacy(CIL) is one of Key Competences in 21st century. Many countries, including Korea, have adopted related contents in their national curriculum for conducting software education. With this movement, many book-type instruction materials for software education have been developed in Korea. However, it is scarce to find researches that evaluate the instruction materials from the perspective of CIL. In this study, we selected 4 instruction materials which were distributed by government with 'SW centered society' web site as well as were developed to teach physical computing for elementary students. Also, we analyzed if they can foster students' CIL. First of all, the evaluation framework was developed based on 'The Manual for Authorized and Approved Textbook' and 'The 2018 ICILS(International Computer and Information Literacy Study) Assessment Framework'. Then, 12 school teachers who have professional insight of software education evaluated the 4 instruction materials with the framework. Averaging the score given by evaluators, we determined that which instruction materials were superior or not. Finally, we figured out the characteristics of superior and inferior instructional materials. Based on the results of this study, we suggested implications for developing instruction materials for physical computing education to build students' CIL.

  • ‘Environmental Literacy’ is defined as ‘one's individual status to be accomplished or to be acquired by environmental education’ and it has the same meaning as ‘the Goals of EE’. The purposes of this study was to identify the components of environmental literacy and analyse the related studies. Much of the work in EE has followed the path outlined by the Belgrade Charter, the Tbilisi Declaration, and later in Agenda 21. Over the years, scholars such as Hungerford et al., Iozzi et al., Roth, the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education, and the Environmental Education Literacy Consortium have examined and proposed a framework of ‘Environmental Literacy’. Recently, the influential framework developed by the NAAEE(the North American Association for Environmental Education) National Project for Excellence in EE included seven categories: affect, ecological knowledge, socio-political knowledge, knowledge of environmental issues, skills, additional determinants of environmentally responsible behavior, and environmentally responsible behaviors. According to the analysed results, 37.7% of the American studies and 32.5% of Korean ones measured aspects of the attitude. Especially, the measure of this variable in America, however, led to the most inconclusive and least positive outcomes. The studies included related to cognitive skills were very few but 100% reported positive impacts of instructions in two countries. In America, using a television documentary, a journal and the field trip were very useful and effective. But using a computer simulation/game was less effective and the supplemental instruction did't led to the positive effect. In Korea, instruction, the supplemental instruction and EE program led to positive outcomes generally. The lack of validity and reliability of the instruments was pointed out as a common problem and the development of valid and reliable instrument for nation-wide assessment is urgently needed.

  • This study introduced a peer tutoring in computer education for the purpose of overcoming the individual differences. Two research problems were investigated. The first is to confirm the effect of the peer tutoring on academic achievement, and the second is to compare the effects of the peer tutoring under the two different pair composition: friendship-based vs ability-based. All of the students of three classrooms in a middle school were included in this experimental research. The results showed no significant difference between the peer tutoring and the teacher instruction. However, the peer tutored group showed higher achievements than the other group, so we could confirm the positive effect of the peer tutoring. At the beginning, the friendship-based pair group showed a significantly higher achievement than the ability-based pair group, but as times go on the friendship effect was gradually diminished.
