Since the early age of computer graphics, facial animation has been applied to various fields, and nowadays it has found several novel applications such as virtual reality(for representing virtual agents), teleconference, and man-machine interface. When we want to apply facial animation to the system with multiple participants connected via network, it is hard to animate facial expression as we desire in real-time because of the size of information to maintain an efficient communication. This paper's major contribution is to adapt 'Level-of-Detail'to the facial animation in order to solve the above problem.Level-of-Detail has been studied in the field of computer graphics to reperesent the appearance of complicated objects in efficient and adaptive way, but until now no attempt has mode in the field of facial animation. In this paper, we present a systematic scheme which enables this kind of adaptive control using Level-of-Detail.The implemented system can generate speech synchronized facial expressions with various types of user input such as text, voice, GUI, head motion, etc.

In this paper, we developed an interactive animation authoring tool and developed the Android based interactive edutainment contents. The authoring tool for creating interactive animations developed in this paper is based on a graphical user interface, so users can easily create interactive animations. Interactive animation contents created by this authoring tool can be created as images and xml files so that they can be used directly on mobile devices. In order to increase learning efficiency for children, Android-based interactive edutainment electronic storybooks, which is implemented using this authoring tool, provided a recording function to listen to the parents' voice as well as an interactive action in which the characters move in accordance with the story line. We also provided a STEAM game that combines creativity and imagination with creative science and technology. Therefore, by creating the edutainment contents through the proposed authoring tool for interactive animation, various interactive animation contents could be produced more easily than the code implementation method. Through this study, I hope that it will be helpful for the development of various interactive edutainment contents to provide educational contents considering the quantity and quality to infants.
The advancement of computer technology has blurred the border in image expression between live-action films and 3D animation to an indistinguishable extent. Despite the ever-evolving image expression, it has been found that animation properly incorporating abstractive expression receives more positive responses from the audience than the animation closely akin to live-action films. This indicates that animation-specific abstractive expression can exert more significant effects than that of live-action expression as proved in Dr. Mori Masahiro's 'Uncanny Valley.' Also, such effects apply only to characters, whilst the technology capable of live-action expression is acknowledged only for the background of 3D animation. Without doubt, animation has its own infinite world of expression, and thus more effective methods for its expression can no longer be considered a matter of technology. The present study analyzes the abstractive expression of 3D animation in terms of characters and backgrounds and explores a more effective method to apply the current technology of image expression to 3D animation with a view to proposing a direction for more appropriate application of 3D animation technology to future animation.

This study takes a comprehensive look at how technological advances have changed the way 2D animation is created. Humans are constantly looking for new ways and technologies to express movement, which has led to many changes in the way 2D animation is produced. In this study, we will examine the impact of these changes on 2D animation production and explore the possibilities for future developments. In the early days of 2D animation, the production method was repeatedly changed by the invention of technologies such as celluloid sheets, rotoscopes, and multiplane cameras, while the advent of digital technology has led to revolutionary changes such as the development of CAPS(computer animation production systems), various digital tools, and the combination of 2D and 3D. In addition, the recent introduction of generative AI is rapidly changing the way 2D animation is produced by automatically handling various tasks. These advances have not only streamlined the production of animation, but have also reduced costs by shortening the production period, and greatly improved the quality of animation by making it easier to implement complex and sophisticated visual effects. The introduction of generative AI has pushed the boundaries of what can be represented in 2D animation. On the other hand, the introduction of digital technology has its drawbacks, as the mechanical and uniform style produced by digital tools can reduce originality and individuality, but advances in technology will open up the possibilities for 2D animation to be produced in a variety of ways, as it fosters the creation of new expressions and creative content.

This paper presents a new prediction method RBP region-based prediction model where the context used for prediction contains regions instead of individual pixels. There is a meaningful property that RBP can partition a cartoon image into two distinctive types of regions, one containing full-color backgrounds and the other containing boundaries, edges and home-chromatic areas. With the development of computer techniques, synthetic images created with CG (computer graphics) becomes attactive. Like the demand on data compression, it is imperative to efficiently compress synthetic images such as cartoon animation generated with CG for storage of finite capacity and transmission of narrow bandwidth. This paper a lossy compression method to full-color regions and a lossless compression method to homo-chromatic and boundaries regions. Two criteria for partitioning are described, constant criterion and variable criterion. The latter criterion, in form of a linear function, gives the different threshold for classification in terms of contents of the image of interest. We carry out experiments by applying our method to a sequence of cartoon animation. We carry out experiments by applying our method to a sequence of cartoon animation. Compared with the available image compression standard MPEG-1, our method gives the superior results in both compression ratio and complexity.
At present, it is very common to use techniques beyond the 2D (two-dimensional) in animations which are found in motion pictures, OVA and TV series. As you can see, PIXAR and Disney have reduced their 2D departments and recently put more effort into 3D (three-dimensional) animation. There is no doubt that producing 3D animation is the big trend. Along with this trend, the national education institutions and the national support policies are also changing to be supportive of 3D animations. We, however, should ask ourselves, if we are on the right track with this change. Through the analysis of the methods of creating 2D animation which we should keep as it is, but instead we import and incorporate with 3D techniques of Japanese 2D animation, I would like to present the importance and the significance of the 2D animation and also to suggest an effective way to create 2D fused with 3D computer graphics techniques.

Recentrly, early dental care for children is becoming more important, and the number of children patients' dental services is on the rise. So, a variety of seduction therapies are needed to alleviate the tension in children who are anxious about dental care. This paper describes the development process and contents of system that can display the animation of different stories according to the treatment stage by grasping the use state of the treatment device in real time. In the animation, the hreo character and the villain, the cavity character, appear and the hero defeat the villain at each treatment stage. Animation is played when treatment starts and ends after treatment. Current existing one-side played animation of dental clinics is not enough to attract children's attention. If the flow of animation changes depending on the treatment process, it will give children a different enjoyment and consequently ease the tension over the treatment.
In interactive environments including computer games and virtual reality applications, we have increased need for interactive control of articulated body motions. Recently, physically based methods including constrained dynamics techniques are introduced to this area, in order to produce more realistic animation sequences. However, they are hard to achieve real-time control of articulated bodies, due to their heavy computations. In this paper, we present a procedural method for interactive animation of articulated bodies. In our method, each object of the constrained body is first moved according to their physical properties and external forces, without considering any constraints. Then, the locations of objects are adjusted to satisfy given constraints. Through adapting this two-stage approach, we have avoided the solving of large linear systems of equations, to finally achieve the interactive animation of articulated bodies. We also present a few example sequences of animations, which are interactively generated on PC platforms. This method can be easily applied to character animations in virtual environments.
Our research introduces a novel system for creating 3D vehicle animation. Our system is for intuitively authoring vehicle accident scenes according to videos or based on user-drawn trajectories. Our system has been implemented by combining three existing ideas. The first part is for obtaining 3D trajectory of a vehicle from black-box videos. The second part is a tracking algorithm that controls a vehicle to follow a given trajectory with small errors. The last part optimizes the vehicle control parameters so that the error between the input trajectory and simulated vehicle trajectory is minimized. We also simulate the deformation of the car due to an impact to achieve believable results in real-time.

For real-time animation, keyframe animation that consists of translation, rotation, scaling transform nodes is used widely in 3D graphics. This paper presents geometrical watermarking using vertex coordinates in CoordIndex node and interpolator watermarking using keyvalues in PositionInterpolator node for 3D keyframe animation based on VRML. Experimental results verify that the proposed algorithm has the robustness against geometrical attacks and timeline attacks as well as the invisibility.
