  • Analysis of the voice and its corresponding studies are examined from the recording of the voice through microphone and various calculation processes of the signals by using computer. Voice analyser include data acquisition and analyzing program. Since oath program uses different voice signal processing algorithm, thorough understanding of the operation is essential. In this study, analysis result of patient voice were compared by using four different voice analysis programs such as MDVP, Praat, TF32, and the program developed in this study. Pitch, jitter and shimmer were selected as comparison analysis factors. As a result, pitch, jitter and shimmer showed different result since each program uses different pitch computation algorithm.

  • Sunspots usually appear in a group which can be classified by certain morphological criteria. In this study we examine the moments which are statistical parameters computed by summing over every pixels of contours, in order to quantify the morphological characteristics of a sunspot group. The moments can be additional characteristics to the sunspot group classification such as McIntosh classification. We are developing a program for image processing, detection of contours and computation of the moments using continuum images from SOHO/MDI. We apply the program to count the sunspot numbers from 303 continuum images in 2003. The sunspot numbers obtained by the program are compared with those by SIDC. The comparison shows that they have a good correlation (r=89%). We are extending this application to automatic sunspot classification (e.g., McIntosh classification) and flare forecasting.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop a automatic computation module for optimum stories in apartment buildings in order to assure the solar access right for neighboring areas. Compared to the existing solar access right analysis programs, the proposed solar access right analysis program is more improved and expanded by automating the computing process of optimum stories in apartment buildings. With the result of this research, it would be possible to furnish advanced information for an amicable settlement against the civil petition and disputes, to reduce waste of the time and money, and to improve the efficiency of solar access right analysis works.

  • The equipment of industrial robot in manufacturing and assembly lines has rapidly increased. In order to achieve high productivity and flexibility, it becomes very important to develop the visual feedback control system with Off-Line Programming System(OLPS). We can save much efforts and time in adjusting robots to newly defined workcells by using OLPS. A proposed visual calibration scheme is based on position-based visual feedback. The calibration program firstly generates predicted images of objects in an assumed end-effector position. The process to generate predicted images consists of projection to screen-coordinates, visible range test and construction of simple silhouette figures. Then camera images acquired are compared with predicted ones for updating position and orientation data. Computation of error is very simple because the scheme is based on perspective projection which can be also expanded to experimental results. Computation time can be extremely reduced because the proposed method does not require the precise calculation of tree-dimensional object data and image Jacobian.

  • The solution for the natural convection in internally finned horizontal annuli is obtained by using a numerical simulation of time-dependent and two-dimensional governing equations. The fins existing in annuli influence the flow pattern, temperature distribution and heat transfer rate. The variations of the On configuration suppress or accelerate the free convective effects compared to those of the smooth tubes. The effects of fin configuration, number of fins and ratio of annulus gap width to the inner cylinder radius on the fluid flow and heat transfer in annuli are demonstrated by the distribution of the velocity vector, isotherms and streamlines. The governing equations are solved efficiently by using a parallel implementation. The technique is adopted for reduction of the computation cost. The parallelization is performed with the domain decomposition technique and message passing between sub-domains on the basis of the MPI library. The results from parallel computation reveal in consistency with those of the sequential program. Moreover, the speed-up ratio shows linearity with the number of processor.

  • The z-map structure is widely used for NC tool path verification as it is very simple and fast in calculation of Boolean operations. However, if the number of the x-y grid points in a z-map is increased to enhance its accuracy, the computation time for NC verification increases rapidly. To reduce this computation time, we proposed a NC verification method using 3-D graphic acceleration hardwares. In this method, the z-map of the resultant workpiece machined by a NC program is obtained by rendering tool swept volumes along tool pathos and reading the depth buffer of the graphic card. The experimental results show that this hardware-based method is faster than the conventional software-based method.

  • The MCNP5 neutron, electron, photon Monte Carlo transport program was installed on the KISTI's SUN Tachyon computer using the parallel programming. Electron beam accelerators were modeled and shielding calculations were performed in order to investigate the reduction of computation time in the supercomputer environment. It was observed that a speedup of 40 to 80 of computation time can be obtained using 64 CPUs compared to an IBM PC.

  • An improved method has been developed for the computation of the section forces and stiffness in nonlinear finite element analysis of RC plane frames. The need for a new approach arises because the conventional technique may have a questionable level of efficiency if a large number of layers is specified and a questionable level of accuracy if a smaller number is used. The proposed technique is based on automatically dividing the section into zones of similar state of stress and tangent modulus and then numerically integrating within each zone to evaluate the sectional stiffness parameters and forces. In the new system, the size, number and location of the layers vary with the state of the strains in the cross section. The proposed method shows a significant improvement in time requirement and accuracy in comparison with the conventional layered approach. The computer program based on the new technique has been used successfully to predict the experimental load-deflection response of a RC frame and good agreement with test and other numerical results have been obtained.

  • Parallel computers are known to be excellent in performance per cost also satisfying scalability and high performance. However parallel machines have enjoyed limited success because of difficulty in parallel programming and non-portability between parallel machines. Recently, researchers have sought to develop data parallel language that provides machine independent programming systems. Data parallel language such as High Performance Fortran provides a basis to write a parallel program based on a global name space by partitioning data and computation, generating message-passing function. In this paper, we describe the Parallel Programming Translator(PPTran), source-to-source data parallel compiler, generating MPI SPMD parallel program from HPF input program through four phases such as data dependence analysis, partitioning data, partitioning computation, and code generation with explicit message-passing and verify the performance of PPTran
