Fast 360° Sound Source Localization using Signal Energies and Partial Cross Correlation for TDOA Computation

  • This paper proposes a simple sound source localization (SSL) method based on signal energies comparison and partial cross correlation for TDOA computation. Many sound source localization methods include multiple TDOA computations in order to eliminate front-back confusion. Multiple TDOA computations however increase the methods' computation times which need to be as minimal as possible for real-time applications. Our aim in this paper is to achieve the same results of localization using fewer computations. Using three microphones, we first compare signal energies to predict which quadrant the sound source is in, and then we use partial cross correlation to estimate the TDOA value before computing the azimuth value. Also, we apply a threshold value to reinforce our prediction method. Our experimental results show that the proposed method has less computation time; spending approximately 30% less time than previous three microphone methods.

  • In this paper, we propose efficient algorithms for parallel prefix computation and sorting on a recursive dual-net. The recursive dual-net $RDN^k$(B) for k > 0 has $(2n_o)^{2K}/2$ nodes and $d_0$ + k links per node, where $n_0$ and $d_0$ are the number of nod es and the node-degree of the base-network B, respectively. Assume that each node holds one data item, the communication and computation time complexities of the algorithm for parallel prefix computation on $RDN^k$(B), k > 0, are $2^{k+1}-2+2^kT_{comm}(0)$ and $2^{k+1}-2+2^kT_{comp}(0)$, respectively, where $T_{comm}(0)$ and $T_{comp}(0)$ are the communication and computation time complexities of the algorithm for parallel prefix computation on the base-network B, respectively. The algorithm for parallel sorting on $RDN^k$(B) is restricted on B = $Q_m$ where $Q_m$ is an m-cube. Assume that each node holds a single data item, the sorting algorithm runs in $O((m2^k)^2)$ computation steps and $O((km2^k)^2)$ communication steps, respectively.

Strategy for Task Offloading of Multi-user and Multi-server Based on Cost Optimization in Mobile Edge Computing Environment

  • With the development of mobile edge computing, how to utilize the computing power of edge computing to effectively and efficiently offload data and to compute offloading is of great research value. This paper studies the computation offloading problem of multi-user and multi-server in mobile edge computing. Firstly, in order to minimize system energy consumption, the problem is modeled by considering the joint optimization of the offloading strategy and the wireless and computing resource allocation in a multi-user and multi-server scenario. Additionally, this paper explores the computation offloading scheme to optimize the overall cost. As the centralized optimization method is an NP problem, the game method is used to achieve effective computation offloading in a distributed manner. The decision problem of distributed computation offloading between the mobile equipment is modeled as a multi-user computation offloading game. There is a Nash equilibrium in this game, and it can be achieved by a limited number of iterations. Then, we propose a distributed computation offloading algorithm, which first calculates offloading weights, and then distributedly iterates by the time slot to update the computation offloading decision. Finally, the algorithm is verified by simulation experiments. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can achieve the balance by a limited number of iterations. At the same time, the algorithm outperforms several other advanced computation offloading algorithms in terms of the number of users and overall overheads for beneficial decision-making.

  • This paper proposes an imprecise compuitation model for DCT considering QOS of images and a two dimensional DCT architecture for imprecise computations. In case that many processes are scheduling in a hard real time system, the system resources are shared among them. Thus all processes can not be allocated enough system resources (such as processing power and communication bandwidth). The imprecise computtion model can be used to provide scheduling flexibility and various QOS(quality of service)levels, to enhance fault tolerance, and to ensure service continuity in rela time systems. The DCT(discrete cosine transform) is known as one of popular image data compression techniques and adopted in JPEG and MPEG algorithms since the DCT can remove the spatial redundancy of 2-D image data efficiently. Even though many commercial data compression VLSI chips include the DCST hardware, the DCT computation is still a very time-consuming process and a lot of hardware resources are required for the DCT implementation. In this paper the DCT procedure is re-analyzed to fit to imprecise computation model. The test image is simulated on teh base of this model, and the computation time and the quality of restored image are studied. The row-column algorithm is used ot fit the proposed imprecise computation DCT which supports pipeline operatiions by pixel unit, various QOS levels and low speed stroage devices. The architecture has reduced I/O bandwidth which could make its implementation feasible in VLSI. The architecture is proved using a VHDL simulator in architecture level.

  • A new method to reduce the computation time in power/ground-plane analysis is proposed. The existing method using the two dimensional infinite series summation take a lot of computation time. The proposed method is based on the approximation of impedance in the frequency domain through the Mobius transform. This method shows the good accuracy and the high speed in computing. In the case of impedance calculation for 9'x4' board, the proposed method takes 0.16 second of computing time whereas the existing method takes 2.2 second. This method can be applied to the analysis and design of power/ground-plane that need a lot of computation steps.

  • In this paper, an efficient parallel computation method for solving large sparse systems of linear algebraic equations by using Cholesky's method in the finite element method is studied. The methods of minimizing the number of fill-ins in the factorization process of factorization are investigated for minimizing the amount of memory and computation time. The parallel programming is implemented under the PVM(Parallel Virtual Machine) environment. The method of load-distribution is studied for minimizing the computation time and the communication time.

  • Robust stability of discrete-time regulators which utilize state predictors to compensate computation delays is considered. Novel expressions for the return difference matrices and the complementary sensitivity matrices at the input and the output of the regulator are found to obtain simple bounds for unstructured perturbations. Robust stability for pertubations of the system matrix and /or the gain matrix is also considered. under certain restriction on the nominal system simple bounds for the pertubations are obtained directly from the characteristic equation. It is shown that as far as the effect of the computation delays concerns these bounds have explicit relation to those for the unstructured pertubations.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develope the parallel computation algorithm that enables it to minimize the completion tine of computation execution of the entire subtasks, under the constraints of the series-parallel precedence relation in each subtask. The developed algorithm was applied to the control of a robot manipulator functioned by multi-CPU's and to obtain the minimum time schedule so that real time control may be achieved. The completion time of computation execution was minimized by applying "Variable" Branch and Bound algorithm which was developed In this paper in determining the optimum ordered schedule for each CPU.

  • A trapdoor discrete logarithm group is a cryptographic primitive with many applications, and an algorithm that allows discrete logarithm problems to be solved faster using a pre-computed table increases the practicality of using this primitive. Currently, the distinguished point method and one extension to this algorithm are the only pre-computation aided discrete logarithm problem solving algorithms appearing in the related literature. This work investigates the possibility of adopting other pre-computation matrix structures that were originally designed for used with cryptanalytic time memory tradeoff algorithms to work as pre-computation aided discrete logarithm problem solving algorithms. We find that the classical Hellman matrix structure leads to an algorithm that has performance advantages over the two existing algorithms.

  • In this paper, attitude computation algorithm for a strap down ARS(Attitude Reference System)of an underwater vehicle has been studied. Attitude errors o the ARS using low-level gyroscopes tend to increase with time due to gyroscope errors. To cope with this problem, a mixing algorithm of accelerometer aided attitude computation has been developed. The algorithm can successfully bound the error increase for cruising motion, but it gives instantaneously large errors when a vehicle maneuvers. To improve the performance in case of vehicle's maneuver, a new attitude computation mixing algorithm complying state of vehicle and to manage the adjustment of the gains which are invariant in the existing algorithm. In addition, a gain scheduling method is applied to fuzzy inference composition process for real-time computation. Monte Carlo simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides better performance than the existing algorithm.
