  • The dynamic behavior of crankshaft-bearing system in scroll compressor has been investigated using the combined methodologies of finite elements and transfer matrices. The finite element formulation is proposed including the field element for a shaft section and the point element at balancer weight locations, bearing locations, etc., whereas the conventional method is used with the elements. The Houbolt method is used to consider the time march for the integration of the system equations. The linear stiffness and damping coefficients are calculated for a finite cylindrical fluid-film bearing by solving the Reynolds equation, using finite difference method. The orbital response of crankshaft supported on the linear bearing model is obtained, considering balancer weights of motor rotor. And, the steady state displacement of crankshaft are compared with a variation in balancer weight. The loci of crankshaft at bearing locations are composed of the synchronous whirl component and the non-synchronous whirl component.

  • A compressor loop pipe is the most important part in a refrigerator from the view of structural vibration and noise. Vibration energy generated from a compressor's inner body is transmitted to the shell and outside through the loop pipe. For this reason it is very important to design a compressor loop pipe. But, for geometrical complexity and dynamic nonlinearity of the loop pipe, analysis and design of the loop pipe is very difficult. So the statistical and experimental methods have to be used for design of this system. The response surface method (RSM) becomes a popular meta-modeling technique f3r the complex system as this loop pipe. As starting point of loop pile's optimization, FEA model and simple experimental model are used instead of the real loop pipe model. After RS model was constructed, using sensitivity-based optimizer performed optimization for the loop pipe. And the moving least square method (MLSM) was applied to reduce the approximation error.

  • A dynamic simulation model was developed to analyse the transient characteristics of a multi-inverter heat pump. The programs included a basic air conditioning system such as a evaporator, condenser, compressor, linear electronic expansion valve (LEV) and by-pass circuit. The theoretical model was derived from mass conservation and energy conservation equations to predict the performance of the multi-inverter heat pump at various operating conditions. Calculated results were compared with the values obtained from the experiments at different operation frequencies of compressor, area of the LEV and configuration of indoor units operation. The results of the simulation model showed a good agreement with the experimental ones, so that the model could be used as an efficient tool for thermodynamic design and control factor design of air-conditioners.

  • A metal diaphragm compressor has been widely used for supplying a high pressures gas. This compressor mainly consists of gas oil space and metal diaphragm. Gas sucked in the gas space is compressed by an oscillating metal diaphragm existed between the gas and oil space. A non-return discharge and suction check-valve are components of the compressor that draw off the compressed oil and gas. Those components are self-actuated by differential pressures. Therefore, the rapid response and stable operating conditions are required. In the present study, to find out the dynamic behavior of the suction, discharge valve and diaphragm compressor, the unsteady flow field has been investigated numerically by using the unsteady two-way FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction) simulation method, $k-{\omega}$ turbulent model and mesh deformation.

  • A dynamic model of turbo compressor having helical gear pairs is developed. The model accounts for the shaft and bearing flexibilities, gyroscopic effects and the force couplings among the transverse, torsion. and axial motions due to gearings. For the mode analysis of turbo compressor, a transfer matrix method is used. The excitation sources caused by the mass unbalances of the rotors and misalignment of the shafts, the transmitted errors of the gearings. and the vane passing frequencies of the Impeller are studied qualitatively. By introducing the perturbation method, the generated forcing frequencies are defined and devided into three groups. With the field data, two critical speeds are analytically found and the corresponding modal characteristics are examined.

  • Flow-induced vibration analyses have been conducted for a 3D compressor blade model. Advanced computational analysis system based on computational fluid dynamics(CFD) and computational structural dynamics has been developed in order to investigate detailed dynamic responses of designed compressor blades. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of the 3D compressor blade for fluid-structure interaction problems. Detailed dynamic responses and instantaneous pressure contours on the blade surfaces considering flow-separation effects are presented to show the multi-physical phenomenon of the rotating compressor blade.

  • In this study, nonlinear stiffness characteristics of a discharge valve in a small hermetic compressor was considered. It was approximated, with piecewise-linearity, and cubic or quintic nonlinearity by the static load-displacement experimental results. Based on the fluid-structure interaction effects and mass flow rate, the derived 1-DOF equation of motion for the valve model was analyzed. Finally, the dynamic response of the discharge valve was studied with parameters such as the ratio of the running frequency of the compressor to the linear natural frequency of the valve.

  • The analysis of dynamic behaviour of rotor system for the rolling piston type rotary compressor considering hydrodynamic force between motor rotor and stator is presented. In addition to considering other dynamic, loads such as large unbalance forces, gas force and bearing force, we consider the hydrodynamic force induced by the compressed fluid flow through the air gap between motor rotor and stator, and improve the analysis of vibration in rotary compressor. The Childs' method which based on Bulk-now and Hirs' turbulent lubrication model is used to calculate the rotordynamic coefficients due to hydrodynamic force of annular clearance in motor air gap.

  • For a vertical type crankshaft-journal bearing system used in scroll compressor, nonlinear transient response analysis is applied includung nonlinear fluid film reaction forces of journal beatings. By a connected behavior analysis of crankshaft and orbiting scroll, the radial clearance of scroll wraps is calculated. Considering tangential leakage for this clearance, a coupled analysis model for leakage and dynamic behavior of the orbiting scroll is made, and analyzed by iterative calculation. By regarding clearances of main, sub bearing of crankshaft and orbiting scroll shaft bearing clearance as design parameters, the radial clearance of scroll wraps is analyzed.

  • In this paper, a study on the frictional losses and dynamic behaviors of a reciprocating compression mechanism used in small refrigeration compressor is performed. In the problem formulation of the compressor dynamics, the viscous frictional force between piston and cylinder wall is considered in order to determine the coupled dynamic behaviors of piston and crankshaft supported on a thrust ball bearing. The solutions of the equations of motion of the reciprocating mechanism along with the time dependent Reynolds equations for the lubricating film between piston and cylinder wall and lubricant films of the journal bearings are obtained simultaneously. The hydrodynamic forces of journal bearings are calculated using finite bearing model and G$\hat{u}$m-bel boundary condition. And, a Newton-Raphson procedure was employed in solving the nonlinear equations of piston and crankshaft with a thrust ball bearing. The results explored the effects of design parameters on the frictional losses and dynamic stability of the compression mechanism.
