Various problems such as durability degradation may happen when extra water is added to concrete. Because of these reasons, the change of water content is managed by using rapid evaluation method of unit water content such as electric capacity method, heat drying method making use of micro wave, unit capacity mass method among various methods. Especially, in Japan, guidance for the change of water content ($\pm$ 10, 15, 20 kg/$m^3$ etc.) were regulated and used. However, it is the real situation that the guidance which were regulated in South Korea evaluate suitability only considering production and measurement error under the circumstances which are not considering the degree of durability degradation. Therefore, this study tries to investigate the influence of addition of extra water in the concrete on the durability degradation of concrete when it was added by artificial manipulation or by management error. From the test results, a guideline of the contents of extra water for the quality control is suggested with the consideration of the degree of durability degradation and the probable error resulted from the addition of extra water. The contents of extra water for tests are set as 0, 15, 25, 35 kg/$m^3$. To examine the durability degradation of concrete, freezing and thawing, carbonation, chloride penetration and compressive strength are tested.

Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) has recently been one of the most active research fields in Korea as well as in foreign countries, because it can contribute to a longer life and economic efficiency of structures. Although precast-type UHPC fabricated in a factory is preferable in terms of quality control and reduction of construction period, there exist, even in the precast structure, some parts that need to be cast in-place such as the joints between precast segments. In the cast-in-place UHPC, however, it is probable that an optimum curing condition can hardly be realized in contrast to the factory production. In this study, therefore, the trend of compressive strength development of UHPC was experimentally investigated by assuming various inferior curing conditions that may be anticipated at a construction site. Concrete specimens were fabricated and cured under different conditions with the variables such as curing temperature, delay time before the initiation of curing, duration of curing time and moisture condition. The strengths were compared with those of the specimens cured by standard high temperature steam. Through the analysis of the test results, some minimum requirements for curing have been proposed that are required when the UHPC is cast in-place. It is expected, through this study, that practical use of UHPC in construction sites can be increased.

Cu have been widely used as signal transmission materials for electrical electronic components owing to its high electrical conductivity. However, it's size have been limited to small ones due to its poor mechanical properties, Until now, strengthening of the copper at toy was obtained either by the solid solution and precipitation hardening by adding alloy elements or the work hardening by deformation process. Adding the at toy elements lead to reduction of electrical conductivity. In this aspect, if carbon nanofiber is used as reinforcement which have outstanding mechanical strength and electric conductivity, it is possible to develope Cu matrix nanocomposite having almost no loss of electric conductivity. It is expected to be innovative in electric conduct ing material market. The unidirectional alignment of carbon nanofiber is the most challenging task developing the copper matrix composites of high strength and electric conductivity In this study, the unidirectional alignment of carbon nanofibers which is used reinforced material are controlled by drawing process in order to manufacture the intermediary materials for the carbon nanofiber reinforced Cu matrix nanocomposite and align mechanism as well as optimized drawing process parameters are verified via experiments and numerical analysis. The materials used in this study were pure copper and the nanofibers of 150nm in diameter and of $10~20\mu\textrm{m}$ In length. The materials have been tested and the tensile strength was 75MPa with the elongation of 44% for the copper it is assumed that carbon nanofiber behave like porous elasto-plastic materials. Compaction test was conducted to obtain constitutive properties of carbon nanofiber. Optimal parameter for drawing process was obtained by experiments and numerical analysis considering the various drawing angles, reduction areas, friction coefficient, etc Lower reduction areas provides the less rupture of cu tube is not iced during the drawing process. Optimal die angle was between 5 degree and 12 degree. Relative density of carbon nanofiber embedded in the copper tube is higher as drawing diameter decrease and compressive residual stress is occurred in the copper tube. Carbon nanofibers are moved to the reverse drawing direct ion via shear force caused by deformation of the copper tube and alined to the drawing direction.
The failure of composite sandwich structures with thickness and material variation was studied. The main body of the structure is sandwich plate made of the carbon composite face and Aluminum honeycomb core. It is connected with composite laminated flange without core through transition region of tapered sandwich panel with foam core. Tension and compression tests were conducted for the total of 6 panels, 3 for each. Test results showed that the panels under compression are vulnerable to the face failure along the material discontinuity line between two different cores. However the failure load of which panel does not show such failure can carry 16% more load and fails in honeycomb core and face debonding. For the tensile load, the extensive delamination failure was observed at the corner radius which connects the panel and the flange. The average failure load for compression is about 7 times the tensile failure load. Accordingly, these sandwich structures should be applied to the components that endure the compressive loadings.
The RFI process is an OoA process that fiber mats and resin films are laminated and cured in a vacuum bag. In case that resin film is insufficient to fill empty space in fibers, it makes void defect in composites and this void decrease mechanical properties of the composites. For this reason, non-destructive testing is usually used to evaluate void of manufactured composites. So, in this study, a manufacturing method of standard void specimens, which are able to be used as references in non-destructive testing, was proposed by controlling resin film thickness in the RFI process. Also, a fiber compaction test was proposed as a method to set the resin film thicknesses depending on target voids of manufacturing panels. The target void panels of 0%, 2%, and 4% were made by the proposed methods, and signal attenuation depending on void was measured by non-destructive testing and image analysis. In addition, voids of specimens for tensile, in-plane, short beam and compressive tests were estimated by signal attenuation, and mechanical properties were evaluated depending on the voids.

Rock and discontinuities are main factors consisting of a rock mass and the physical properties of each factor have direct effects on the mechanical stability of artificial structures in the rock mass. Because physical properties of the rock and discontinuities change a lot according to the size of test materials, a close attention is needed when the physical properties, obtained from laboratory tests, are used for the design of field structures. In this study, change of physical properties of intact materials due to the change of their size are studied. Six kinds of artificial materials including crystal, instead of an intact rock, are adopted for the study to guarantee the homogeneity of specimen materials even with relatively large size. Uniaxial strength and Young's modulus of each artificial material are checked out for a size effect and compared with the predicted values by Buckingham's theorem - dimensional analysis. A numerical analysis using PFC (Particle Flow Code) is also applied and primary factors influencing on the size effect are investigated.
No-fines concrete is concrete from which the fine aggregate fraction has been omitted. The concrete so formed, consisting only of coarse aggregate, cement, and water, has large voids uniformly distributed through its mass. This study was performed to obtain the basic data which can be applied to the use of no-fines concrete. The data was based on the properties of no-fines concrete depending upon various mixing ratios. The results obtained were summarized as follows. 1. Test result of the consistency, suitable water-cement ratio was increased with the increasing of mixing ratio. 2. At the suitable water-cement ratio, the highest strengths were showed. But it gradually was decreased with the increasing of mixing ratio and strengths are considerably lower than that of conventional portland cement concrete. 3. The relations between compressive and tensile strength were highly singnificant as a straight line shaped. The strength ratio was decreased with the increasing of mixing ratio and considerably lower than of conventional portland cement concrete. 4. Bulk density was decreased with the increasing of the mixing ratio, and was similar to that of the conventional portland cement concrete at mixing ratio 1:4. 5. The relations between strength and bulk density were highly significant as a straight line shaped. The decreasing ratio of strengths was higher than that of bulk density.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the effect of the monomer ratio on properties of the polymer-modified mortars using methylmethacrylate-butyl acrylate(MMA/BA) latexes, and to obtain basic data necessary to develop appropriate latexes for cement modifiers. From the test results, we knew that the pore volume of polymer-modified mortars using MMA/BA latexes at bound MMA contents of 60 and 70 percent is 7.5∼75nm and the fine pore volume is increased with an increase in the polymer-cement ratio. The total pore volume of polymer-modified mortars using MMA/BA latexes is linearly reduced with an increase in the bound MMA content and increased in the polymer-cement ratio. In general, the superior compressive strength of polymer-modified mortars using MMA/BA latexes is obtained at a bound MMA content of 70 percent and a polymer-cement ratio of 15%. And, the water absorption and chloride ion penetration depth are greatly affected by the polymer-cement ratio rather than the bound MMA content. The important factors affecting the properties of polymer-modified mortars using MMA/BA latexes polymerized with various monomer ratios are the variations of the pore size distribution with changing bound MMA content and the polymer-cement ratio.

Road pavements in Korea generally show shorter service life than the predicted one. There are many reasons for this phenomenon including increased traffic load and other attacks from exposure conditions. In order to extend a service life and upgrade the pavement, a new multi-functional composite pavement system is being developed in Korea. This study is to investigate the performances of fiber-reinforced lean concrete for pavement base. This study considered mineral admixtures of fly ash and reject ash. The reject ash is defined as ash that does not meet the specifications for fly ash so that it cannot be used as a supplemental material for cement replacement. Due to the inherent property of lean concrete, compaction during the fabrication of specimens is a key factor. Therefore, this study suggests an appropriate compaction method. From the test results, the compressive strengths of the concrete satisfied the required limit of 5 MPa at 7 days. When a compaction roller was used to mimic actual field conditions, the strength development seemed to be influenced by the compaction energy rather than hydration of cement itself.
The Ground anchor is reinforcement to resist pull-out through ground that is used supports structure. The pull-out resistance of anchor is constructed by skin friction resistance from compression borehole wall in expanded wings and bearing pressure from the ground. Especially, underreamed ground anchor is reinforcement that adopts active reinforcement to prevent deformation of ground using bearing resistance generated reaming anchorage. This study is conducted to calculate bearing resistance of underreamed ground anchor. Realistic model tests were fulfilled to determine bearing resistance of anchor, and correlate results of tests to Uniaxial Compressive Strengths (UCS) of ground models that assumed weathered rock condition in 8 case. In a comprehensive series of the tests, the bearing resistances were measured by pull-out tests. The bearing resistances derived from tests have a linear correlation with UCS. We also suggest empirical equation between bearing resistance and UCS of rocks by single linear regression analyses. In test results of this study, the bearing resistances were evaluated approximately 13 times higher than UCS of the grounds, and it is qualitatively similar to numerical values of pull-out force derived from theory.
