Biofiltration of Odorous Gases from the Foodwaste Composting Facility

  • 음식물쓰레기 퇴비화시설에서 발생하는 악취에 대해 90일 동안 입구농도를 측정한 결과 발효기 가동시간에는 $10{\sim}100ppm$, 비가동시간에는 $0{\sim}10ppm$의 농도를 나타냈다. 바이오필터의 제거효율은 초기에 80%정도를 보이다 20일 전후를 해서 90%이상을 나타냈다. 압력손실은 90일 경과 후에도 20 $mmH_2O$를 넘지 않아 바이오필터에 효율적인 악취처리가 이루어졌음을 알 수 있다.

Evaluation of Rotary Composting Technique for Animal Wastes

  • In order to investigate the compost process and the evaporating phenomenon, a rotary reversing compost system has been tested in a swine farm. During the summer season, the compost temperature was varied in the range of 50~$60^{\circ}C.$ and the ash content was increased by 12.8 % with the average of 24.7 % at the end of phase. In the winter season, the compost temperature was varied in the range of 40~$57^{\circ}C.$ and the ash content was increased to 8.5 % showing the average of 18 % at the end of phase. In summer, the compost facility could handle all of the animal waste, but it could not handle 1/4~1/3 of the animal excrement during the winter. The required amount of sawdust by this method could be reduced to 1/3 than that of the mixing method at the beginning of compost process.

소각장에 대한 시민의식 조사분석 (Analysis of Citizen's Attitude to the Incineration)

  • 소각장에 대한 주민위식을 알아보기 위하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 주민들이 가장 싫어하는 시설은 시체 화장시설, 쓰레기 적환장, 화학공장, 쓰레기 소각장, 위생매립지의 순이었다. 주거지역과 소각장까지의 최소 이격거리를 묻는 질문에는 1km 이상이 가장 많았고, 2km 이상이 그 다음이었다. 쓰레기 처리를 위해 앞으로 더 많이 필요한 시설에는 퇴비화 시설, 위생매립지, 소각장의 순으로 응답하였다. 완벽한 소각시설이 부득이 집 근처에 설치될때의 수용여부를 묻는 질문에서는 허용하겠다는 응답이 과반수를 넘었으며, 37.6%가 수용불가에 응답하였다. 쓰레기 소각장 후보지 선정과 같은 사업 추진시 행정기관의 강압적인 조치에 대하여 어떻게 생각하느냐는 질문에는 동감한다는 대답이 과반수를 넘었다. 주민들은 광역소각장 보다도 1시 군 1소각장에 더 높은 선호도를 보였고 지역이기주의의 극복방안을 묻는 질문에는 완벽한 기술을 가장 많이 꼽았으며, 그 다음이 행정의 민주화 공개화였다.

양돈장 작업장소별 암모니아 및 황화수소의 실시간 모니터링 (Real-time Monitoring of Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide According to Workplace at Swine Farms)

  • Objectives: This study aims to assess the concentrations of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide according to task unit area at swine farms. Methods: A total of six swine farms were selected for this study. Ammonia and hydrogen sulfide were monitored using a real-time multi-gas monitor which could sample the gases simultaneously. The sampling was done in the pig building, manure storage facility and composting facility of each farm. Results: The concentration of ammonia in the pig buildings(GM 22.6 ppm, GSD 2.3) was significantly higher(p<0.0001) than in the manure storage facilities(GM 10.4 ppm, GSD 2.7) and composting facilities(GM 8.6 ppm, GSD 2.8). The concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the manure storage facilities(GM 9.8 ppm, GSD 3.2) was higher(p<0.0001) than in the pig buildings(GM 2.3 ppm, GSD 2.3) and composting facilities(GM 1.9 ppm, GSD 2.5). In particular, the levels of hydrogen sulfide in the confined manure storage facilities were higher than those in open-type facilities and the peak concentration(98 ppm) in the confined facilities was approximate to 100 ppm, at the value of Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health(IDLH). Conclusions: Suffocation accidents caused by hazardous gases at a swine farm have occurred annually. Real-time monitoring of the hazards should be done in order to protect farm workers and livestock from the sudden accidents.

석회안정화 방법을 이용한 돈사분뇨공공처리시설에서 발생하는 탈수슬러지의 퇴비화 (Composting using the Lime Stabilization of Dewatering Sludge from Centralized Swine Wastewater Treatment Facility)

  • Dewatering sludge using inorganic chemicals with polymer has been evaded for reuse on account of the risks of high heavy metals contained and soil acidification. Composting feasibility of coagulation & dewatering sludges produced from livestock waste treatment plant was investigated. The results of analysis prove that dewatering sludge is valuable matter with suitable elements for composting if high quality ferric chloride ($FeCl_3$) is used for coagulation & dewatering process. In pot-cultivation of harvestes, using effects of dewatering sludge improved with lime treatment was very effective. The results of pot-cultivation proved that harms of crops according to different acid tolerances were not detected. But it was not applied to crops with weak acid tolerance or greenhouse for free from gas damage. Also, Further studies and monitorings are necessary to use sludges because results of pot-cultivation were generated differently by characteristics of soil, nutrient demand of plants, mature degree of sludge, consecutive cultivation and etc.

국내 가축분뇨 처리시설 형태별 특성조사 분석 (A Study on the Characteristics of Livestock Manure Treatment Facility in Korea)

  • 국내 경제성장에 힘입어 최근 30여 년 간에 걸쳐서 축산물 소비가 급격하게 늘어나고 있다. 이에 따라 국내 가축 규모는 전업화, 대형화 되는 추세에 있다. 가축 사육두수의 증가는 필연적으로 가축분뇨 발생량 증가를 초래하게 되었다. 농림축산 통계에 따르면 2013년 말 기준으로 약 47,235천 톤의 가축분뇨가 발생되었다. 이 분뇨를 처리하기 위해서 퇴비화, 액비화, 정화 그리고 혐기소화와 같은 다양한 가축분뇨 처리방법이 적용되고 있다. 가축분뇨를 퇴비화 처리 하는 시설에 있어서는 에스컬레이터식, 패들식, 스크루식 또는 로타리식 등의 4가지 종류의 교반시설이 적용되고 있다. 가축분뇨 액비화 시설의 경우에는 호기적 방법과 무산소적 방법 등의 2가지 시설이 운영되고 있다. 가축분뇨를 액비화하기 위해서 전국에 약 8천기에 달하는 액비화 시설이 설치, 운영되고 있다. 가축분뇨 정화처리 시설에서는 고액분리 처리, 2차 처리 그리고 고도 처리의 3가지 단계의 기술을 적용하고 있다. 2012년 말 기준으로 볼 때 혐기소화 처리방법에 의해서 처리된 돼지분뇨 슬러리는 약 21천 톤에 달한다. 가축분뇨 처리를 위해서 퇴비, 액비, 정화 시설, 혐기소화 시설 등을 선택함에 있어서 악취제거 효율을 높이는 것이 대단히 중요한 사안이 되었다. 본 연구에서는 국내에 설치된 가축분뇨처리 시설의 특징과 운영방식을 6년간에 걸친 시설 설치관련 서류 검토와 현장조사를 통하여 분석하였다.

  • Food waste has been widely considered as a recycling resource to be applied to agricultural lands due to the effects of organic matter and nutrient for plant productivity. but the maturity and salt concentration in the compost produced from food waste processing facilities should be considered firstly, which was little information on compost quality produced from food waste treatment facility. In this study, we examined actual situation of food waste processing facility on the composting of food waste and evaluated the characteristics of composts produced from food waste processing facilities. The quality of composts was analyzed on the basis of the criteria of fertilizer processing manual. The 46% of food waste treatment facility registered composting produced actually the compost mixed with food waste or animal waste. The compost maturity and salt concentration as indicators of the quality of compost were not met 46.8% of composts collected from food waste processing facilities to the criteria of fertilizer processing manual. Also, 15.6%(moisture) were not satisfied with the criteria. In conclusion, the compost produced from food waste processing facilities is firstly required with better compost maturity and reduced salt concentration in order to use to agricultural lands as an amendment.

우분 퇴비공장 주변 농경지 및 수계의 계절별 잔류 항생물질 모니터링 (Seasonal Monitoring of Residual Antibiotics in Soil, Water, and Sediment adjacent to a Cattle Manure Composting Facility)

  • Overuse of veterinary antibiotics threats public health and surrounding environment due to the occurrence of antibiotic resistant bacteria. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antibiotic's concentrations of tetracycline (TC), chlortetracycline (CTC), and oxytetracycline (OTC) in a tetracycline group (TCs), sulfamethazine (SMT), sulfamethoxazole (SMX), and sulfathiazole (STZ) in a sulfonamide group, lasalocid (LSL), monensin (MNS), and salinomycin (SLM) in a ionophore (IPs), and tylosin (TYL) in a macrolide (MLs) group from soil, water, and sediment samples adjacent to a cattle manure composting facility. For all samples of soil, water, and sediment, the highest concentrations were detected in TCs among the tested antibiotics because of its higher annual consumption in veterinary farms, Korea and its higher cohesiveness with divalent or trivalent cations in soil. Moreover, the concentrations of residual antibiotics in September were generally higher than in June because of heavier rainfall in June. We suggest that continual monitoring and developing guideline of antibiotics are needed to control residual antibiotics in the environment.

가축매몰지 소멸시 잔존물 처리방안 (Treatment of residues of excavated carcasses burials)

  • Burials for the rapid disposal of carcasses have diverse and profound effects on the rural living condition, natural environment, and local economy throughout construction, management and final destruction of burials. In this study, possible residue excavated from standard burials, storage using FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) tanks, and microbial-treated burials are characterized as carcasses, contaminated soil by leachate, and wasted plastic film. Treatment technologies for volume reduction of the residue including composting, rendering, and thermal hydrolysis were investigated. If the solid and liquid residues generated during volume reduction treatment are directly transferred to the environmental facilities, it may cause disorder due to high concentrations of organics, antibiotics, and lipid. Benefits and drawbacks of composting as a volume reduction techniques are extensively investigated. We also discussed that proper treatment of excavated soils and the reusing the treated soil as agricultural purpose. For the protection of public health and worker's hygiene, treatment criteria including produced residue qualities, and quality standards for the treated soil as agricultural use are required. In addition, Scientific manual for the proper treatment of residues is required. It is necessary to consider the establishment of a pretreatment facility to the occurrence of large-scale residue treatment.
