  • This study selected and analyzed filter media that can be applied in non-point pollution reduction devices aimed at processing the source of pollution on site for road runoff that increases rapidly in rainfall-runoff in order to improve the water quality of urban areas. First, the factors that affect the quality of runoff caused by sources of non-point pollution include physical and social factors such as the usage of land around the area of water collection, type of pavement and movement of cars and people, as well as rainfall characteristics such as frequency, intensity, amount and duration of rainfall. Second, the purification tests of the filter media were processed for pH, BOD, COD and T-P, and the filter media showed to have initial purification effect at that items. However, the filter media showed to be very effective for the processing of SS, T-N, Zn and Cd from the beginning to the end. Third, for filter media, zeolite and vermiculite showed to be effective for processing SS, T-N, Zn and CD constantly, and composite filter media including zeolite showed to have strong processing effects. The authors conclude that this study can be applied to technical areas and policies aimed at reducing non-point pollution in urban areas and can also contribute to allowing eco-friendly management of rainfall as well as improvement of water quality.

  • Image signal can be damaged by a variety of noises during the signal processing, and multiple studies have been conducted to restore these signals. The representative noises to be added in the image are salt and pepper noise, additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN), and the composite noise which two noises are combined. Therefore, the algorithms were proposed to process with quadratic spline interpolation and median filter in case of salt and pepper noise with the central pixel of the local mask, and to process with weight filter by pixel changes in case of AWGN, upon noise determination to restore the damaged image in the composite noise environment, in this article.

  • In this paper, we proposed three types of binomial filter for spectrum sensing in cognitive radio system. Three filters are binomial, negative binomial and composite binomial filters and the frequency responses of their transfer functions are analyzed and the numbers of stages to meet the required attenuation are driven. As a result of performance analysis in terms of the number of stages, negative and composite binomial filters are superior to the binomial filter. Since the proposed three filters have a unified cascaded structure and are easy to be implemented without any multiplier, it is expected that they will have wide applications.

  • Prussian blue (PB) is well known for its excellent $Cs^+$ ions adsorption capacity. Due to the high dispersibility of PB in aqueous phase, composite materials imbedding PB in supporting materials have been introduced as a solution. However, building PB particles inside porous supporting materials is still difficult, as PB particles are not fully formed and elute out to water. In this study, we suggest layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly to provide better immobilization of PB on supporting materials of poly vinyl alcohol sponge (PVA) and cellulose filter (CF). Three different PB attachment methods, ex-situ/in-situ/LBL assembly, were evaluated using PB leaching test as well as $Cs^+$ adsorption test. Changes of surface functionality and morphology during PB composite preparation protocols were monitored through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results indicate that LBL assembly led to better PB attachment on supporting materials, bringing less eluting PB particles in aqueous phase compared to other synthesis methodologies, such as ex-situ and in-situ synthesis. By enhancing the stability of the adsorbent, adsorption capacity of PVA-PB with LBL improved nine times and that of CF-PB improved over 20 times. Therefore, the results suggest that LBL assembly offers a better orientation for growing PB particles on porous supporting materials.

  • In this paper, a Kalman filter approach for enhancing speech signals degraded by statistically independent additive nonstationary noise is developed. The autoregressive hidden markov model is used for modeling the statistical characteristics of both the clean speech signal and the nonstationary noise process. In this case, the speech enhancement comprises a weighted sum of conditional mean estimators for the composite states of the models for the speech and noise, where the weights equal to the posterior probabilities of the composite states, given the noisy speech. The conditional mean estimators use a smoothing spproach based on two Kalmean filters with Markovian switching coefficients, where one of the filters propagates in the forward-time direction with one frame. The proposed method is tested against the noisy speech signals degraded by Gaussian colored noise or nonstationary noise at various input signal-to-noise ratios. An app개ximate improvement of 4.7-5.2 dB is SNR is achieved at input SNR 10 and 15 dB. Also, in a comparison of conventional and the proposed methods, an improvement of the about 0.3 dB in SNR is obtained with our proposed method.

  • For the simultaneous measurement of strain and vibration signal, a fiber Bragg grating sensor system with a dual demodulator was proposed. One demodulator using a tunable Fabry-Perot filter could measure low-frequency signal such as strain and the other demodulator using a coarse wavelength division multiplexer could detect high-frequency signal such as vibration signal using intensity demodulation method. In order to measure strain and vibration of the composite main wing model under static loading a real time monitoring program was developed. Also using intensity demodulation of CWDM, sensitivity and resolution at high frequency vibration were evaluated.

  • Experimental studies on the adaptive multi-mode vibration control of composite beams have been performed using neuro-controller. Neuro-controllers require too much computational burden, which blocks wide real-time applications of neuro-controllers. Therefore, in this paper, an adaptive notch filter is proposed to separate a vibration signal into each modal vibration signal. Two neuro-controllers with fewer weights are connected to the corresponding modal signals to generate proper modal control forces. The vibration controls using the adaptive notch filter and neuro-controllers have been performed for two specimens. A and B, which have different natural frequencies because of different positions of tip masses. Significant vibration reduction has been observed in both cases. The vibration control results show that the present neuro-controller has good adaptiveness under the system parameter variations.

  • In this paper, we proposed a compact arbitrary dual-band band-stop filter using CRLH transmission line. The proposed filter used CRLH transmission line as stub and it developed dual-band band-stop characteristics using non-linear phase response of CRLH transmission line. The size of proposed filter is compact. And it can control arbitrary dual stop band. In this paper, designed band-stop filter at GPS band and ISM band As result, the S(2,1) is about -30dB at GPS band and about -29dB at ISM band. The fabricated filter is very compact. Its dimension is 10mm*15mm.

  • In this paper, we present a bandpass filter (BPF) based on composite right-/left-handed (CRLH) structure for improving the linearity of the power amplifier. The proposed BPF consist of the inter-digit signal line on the top plane and the complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) on the bottom plane, respectively. The insertion loss is minimized at operation frequency and the 2nd harmonic is suppressed by the bandpass filter using the CRLH structure, respectively. The output power of 33 dBm, the 2nd harmonic of -53.527 dBc, 3rd inter-modulation distortion of -36.16 dBc was obtained at 2.14 GHz, respectively. Compared with the reference power amplifier, the 2nd harmonic of 16 dB and 3rd inter-modulation distortion of 12 dB have been improved at 2.14 GHz, respectively.

  • We propose a compact high-order(9th) UHF bandpass filter comprising the composite right-handed and left-handed(CRLH) zeroth-order resonators(ZORs) in the form of the three cascaded-triplets(CTs) newly applied to the ZOR filter which results in very steep skirt. The method is verified by circuit and EM simulations and measurement with metamaterial properties.
