  • In this paper we consider a periodic solution for nonlinear free vibration of conservative systems for thick circular sector slabs. In Energy Balance Method (EBM) contrary to the conventional methods, only one iteration leads to high accuracy of the solutions. The excellent agreement of the approximate frequencies and periodic solutions with the exact ones could be established. Some patterns are given to illustrate the effectiveness and convenience of the methodology. Comparing with numerical solutions shows that the energy balance method can converge to the numerical solutions very rapidly which are valid for a wide range of vibration amplitudes as indicated in this paper.

  • Thin film flow in the clearance between cylinder bore and axially moving compositeshape piston is analyzed to study the effect of piston shape on the lubrication characteristics of hydraulic piston pump and motor. It is shown that the piston shape significantly affect the distribution of fluid film pressure, lateral force acting on the piston and leakage flow rate in the clearance. And it is also shown that the composite-shape piston is more effective than the cylindrical piston under tilted condition to reduce the possibility of hydraulic locking. Therefore, the results of present study can be used usefully in the design-and manufacturing of hydraulic piston pump and motor.

  • In the present paper, flow fields around two dimensional single and two circular cylinders are analysed by a finite difference method. Navier-Stokes and the continuity equations an solved to simulate the flow fields. A overlapped grid system(the composite of a body boundary-fitted grid system near the body and a rectangular grid system for other flow fields) is used for this calculation. In the use of overlapped grid system, it is most significant thing to exchange the physical quantities from one grid system to the other one continuously, In this research, the linear interpolations of physical quantaties are done for this purpose in the overlapped region. The numerical calculations are carried out for the flows around a circular cylinder and two cylinders to verify the accuracy of present method. The flow fields around two cylinders facing the flow with side by side and tandem arrangement are analysed. The results are compared to other experimental and computational ones done in other single grid system.

  • Determining limit load for a pressure bearing structure using elastic-plastic finite element analysis was computationally very expensive. A series of robust methods using elastic modulus adjustment techniques (EMAP) to identify the limit load directly were proposed. The numerical implementation of the robust method had the potential to be an attractive alternative to elastic-plastic finite element analysis since it was simple, and required less computational effort and computer storage space. Another attractive feature was that the method provided a go/no go criterion for the limit load, whereas the results of an elastic-plastic analysis were often difficult to interpret near the limit load since it came from human sources. To explore the performance of the method further, it was applied to a number of configurations that include two-dimensional and three-dimensional effects. In this study, limit load of cylinder with nozzle was determined by the robust methods.

  • In this paper static analysis of FGM cylinders subjected to internal and external pressure was carried out by a mesh-free method. In this analysis MLS shape functions are used for approximation of displacement field in the weak form of equilibrium equation and essential boundary conditions are imposed by transformation method. Mechanical properties of cylinders were assumed to be variable in the radial direction. Two types of cylinders were analyzed in this work. At first cylinders with infinite length were considered and results obtained for these cylinders were compared with analytical solutions and a very good agreement was seen between them. Then the proposed mesh-free method was used for analysis of cylinders with finite length and two different types of boundary conditions. Results obtained from these analyses were compared with results of finite element analyses and a very good agreement was seen between them.

  • In reverse engineering area, the reconstruction of surfaces from scanned or digitized data is being developed, but geometric model of existing objects is not available in industries. This paper presents the new approach to the reconstruction of surface technique. A proposed methodology finds base geometry and blends surface between them. Each based geometry is divided by tri-angular patches which are compared with their normal vector for face grouping. Each group is categorized analytical surface such as a part of cylinder, sphere and cone, and plane shapes to represent the based geometry surface. And then, each based geometry surface is implemented to the infinitive surface. Infinitive surface's intersections are trimmed by boundary representation model reconstruction. This method has several benefits such as time efficiency and automatic functional modeling system in reverse engineering. Especially, it can be directly applied 3D fax and 3D copier.

  • To design and estimate material failures of Type III pressure vessels, which have excellent stability and performance, various modeling techniques have been introduced. This paper provided a hybrid modeling technique composed of ply-based modeling for a cylinder part and laminate-base modeling technique for a dome part for enhancing modeling efficiency. The ply-based modeling technique provided accurate ply stresses directly for predicting material failure, on the other hand, additional manipulations in stress calculations, which may cause some errors, were needed for the case of the laminate-based modeling technique. The ply stresses in fiber, transverse and in-plane shear directions were compared with the corresponding material strengths to predict material failure.

  • I. Objectives The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of adhesive property on microtensile bond strength and to determine the failure mode. II. Materials and Methods Flat occlusal dentin surfaces were prepared using low-speed diamond saw. The dentin was etched with 37% phosphoric acid. The following adhesives were applied to the etched dentin according to manufacturer's directions;Scotchbond Multi-Purpose in group 1, Primer&Bond NT in group 2, Scotchbond Multi-Purpose followed by Tetric-flow in group 3. After adhesive application, a cylinder of resin-based composite was built up the occlusal surface.(omitted)

  • In order to enhance the thermal energy storage capacity of cement mortar and to improve the effective thermal conductivity of paraffin waxes, cement- sand- paraffin wax mixture was investigated. By means of finite difference method, the transient temperature distribution in a hollow cylinder with phase change using average composite properties was obtained, and compared with experimental results. It was shown that the heat absorbed by mixture with $25\%$ paraffin fraction was as much as $50\%$ more than either a concrete mortar or pure paraffin wax in the case of ${\Delta}T=\;18.25^{\circ}C$.

  • This study is aimed to investigate the electrically conductive properties of epoxy nanocomposites exposed to an acidic environment under various mechanical loads. For simultaneous assessment of the acidic environment and mechanical load on the electrical conductivity of the samples, the samples with and without carbon nanotubes were exposed to the acidic environment under three different loading conditions for 20 days. Then, the aged samples' strength and flexural stiffness degradation under crude oil and bending stress were measured using a three-point flexural test. The aged samples in the acidic environment and under 80 percent of their intact ultimate strength revealed a 9% and 26% reduction of their electrical conductivity for samples with and without CNTs, respectively. The presence of nanoparticles declined flexural stiffness by about 16.39%. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of the specimen were used to evaluate the dispersion quality of CNTs. The results of this study can be exploited in constructing conductive composite electrodes to be used in petroleum environments such as crude oil electrostatic tanks.
