  • Experimental studies on the adaptive vibration control of composite beams have been performed using a piezoelectric actuator and the neuro-controller. The variations in natural frequencies of the specimen and the actuation characteristics of the piezoelectric actuator according to the delamination in the bonding layer have been studied. In addition, the simulation of adaptive vibration control has been performed for the composite specimens with delaminated piezoelectric actuator using neuro-controller. The hardware for the adaptive vibration control experiment was prepared. A DSP(digital signal processor) has been used as a digital controller. Using neuro-controller, the adaptive vibration control experiment has been performed. The vibration control results using the neuro-controller show that the present neuro-controller has good performance and robustness with the system parameter variations.

  • Experimental studies on vibration control of a composite beam with a piezoelectric actuator and an extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer (EFPI) have been performed using a neural network controller and an LQG controller. Vibration control performance was investigated in the nonlinear sensing range according to the vibration amplitudes. Using a neuro-controller, adaptive vibration control experiment has been performed for the structure with frequency variations, and its performance is compared with that of an LQG controller. The vibration control results show that the neuro-controller has good performance and robustness with respect to the system parameter variations.

  • In this paper, a composite controller cosisted of bandpass feedback controller and LQG/LTR controller is applied to a quarter-car model moving on a randomly profiled road. The LQG/LTR controller is used to achieve a design transfer toop. A bandpass feedback controller is adopted to eliminate the response due to the disturbance, which generally can not be measured, confined within an interested frequence range. The random road profile considered as colored noise is shaped from white noise by use of shaping filter. The performance of the composite control system is compared with that of an LQG/LTR control system.

  • This paper deals with adaptive fuzzy logic controller design to achieve proper dynamic response of a composite thin-walled beam with a tip mass. In order to check the effectiveness of this controller, three different types of control logic are selected and applied. The adaptive control capabilities provided by a system of piezoactuators bonded or embedded into the structure are also implemented in the system. Results show that the fuzzy logic controller is more effective than the proportional or velocity feedback controller for the vibration control of composite thin-walled beam with a tip mass.

  • To control a light weight flexible manipulator, a composite fuzzy controller is proposed. The controller is designed based on two time scaled models. A singular perturbation technique is applied for deriving the models. The proposed controller, however, does not use the complex equilibrium manifold equations, which are usually needed in the controller based on the two time scaled models. The controller for a slow sub-model and a fast sub-model are T-S type fuzzy controllers, which use 3 linguistic variables for each sub-model. A step trajectory is used in simulations as a reference trajectory of joint motions. The results of simulations with the proposed controller show excellent damping of flexible motions compared to a controller with derivative control of flexible motions.

  • This paper presents a method to apply disturbance observer to PID controller for robustness enhancement of UAVs. The system uncertainties and disturbances bring adverse effects on performance and stability of UAVs. In this paper, we estimate the acceleration disturbances using nonlinear disturbance observer, then compensate disturbances with composite controller. By employing nonlinear disturbance observer and composite controller, we have better performance and robustness than conventional PID controller. The asymptotical stability of nonlinear disturbance observer is presented through theoretical analysis. The estimation performance of nonlinear disturbance observer is evaluated by numerical simulation. And performance of disturbance observer based PID controller is evaluated by comparing the performance with conventional PID controller.

  • This paper is concerned with the experiments on the active vibration control of a plate with piezoceramic sensors and actuators. The natural frequencies of the composite plate featured by a piezo-film sensor and piezo-ceramic actuator are calculated by using the modal analysis method. Modal coordinates are introduced to obtain the state equations of the structural system. Six natural frequencies were considered in the modelling, because robust control theory which has inherent robustness to structured uncertainty is adopted to suppress the transients vibrations of a glass fiber reinforced(GFR) composite beam. A robust controller satisfying the nominal performance and robust performance is designed using robust theory based on the structured singular value. Simulations were carried out with the designed controller and effectiveness of the robust control strategy was verified by results.

  • This paper presents the robust control simulation of a composite beam using self-sensing actuators(SSA). The self-sensing actuator is a new concept for intelligent material, where a single piezoelectric element simultaneously functions as both a sensor and an actuator. In a practical implementation of the self-sensing actuator an electrical bridge circuit is used to measure strain. The circuit could provide significant information about strain in the element if it were well-balanced. Our aim is design a robust controller which guarantees that the performance of a self-sensing actuator is robust against perturbation of the bridge balance and to confirm the advantages of this technique. Simulation results show that the self-sensing actuator driven by the designed controller exhibits excellent performance in suppressing the vibration of a composite beam.

  • This paper presents the vibration control of a glass-fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite beam with a distributed PVDF sensor and piezo-ceramic achlator. The three types of different controllen which are PID, H$\infty$ , and p-synthesis ontrollcr are employed to achieve vibration suppression in the transient vibration of composite beam. In the H$\infty$ , controller design, 1st and 2nd natural frequencies are considered in the modeling, because robust control theory which has robustness to struchred uncertainty is adopled Lo suppress the vibration. If the controller designed by H$\infty$ , theory does not satisfy control performance, it is improved by $\mu$ -synthesis method with D-K iteration so that the$\mu$-contoller based on the structured singular value satisfies the nominal performance and robust performance Simulations and experiments were carried out with the designed controllers m order to demonstrate the suppression efficiency of each controller.

  • A controller to mitigate the destabilizing effect of constant power load (CPL) is proposed for a DC/DC buck-boost converter. The load profile has been considered to be predominantly of CPL type. The negative incremental resistance of the CPL tends to destabilize the feeder system, which may be an input filter or another DC/DC converter. The proposed sliding mode controller aims to ensure system stability under the dominance of CPL. The effectiveness of the controller has been validated through real-time simulation studies and experiments under various operating conditions. The controller has been demonstrated to be robust with respect to variations in supply voltage and load and capable of mitigating instabilities induced by CPL. Furthermore, the controller has been validated using all possible load profiles, which may arise in modern-day DC-distributed power systems.
