On-Site Construction Method for U-Girder with Pre-tension and Verification of Analytical Performance of Anchoring Block (프리텐션 U형 거더 현장 제작 방법 및 정착 블록 해석적 성능 검증)

  • In South Korea, U-type girder development was attempted as a means to increase the length of I-type girder, but due to the large self-weight according to the post-tension method, the application of rail bridges of 30m or less is typical. There are not many examples of application of pre-tension type girder. This study does not limit the post-tension method, but applies the pre-tension method to induce a reduction in self-weight and materials used due to the reduction of the cross-section. In addition, we intend to apply the on-site pre-tensioning method using the internal reaction arm of the U-type girder. The prestressed concrete U-type girder bridge is composed of a concrete deck slab and a composite section. Compared to the PSC I-type, which is an open cross-section because the cross section is closed, structural performance such as resistance and rigidity is improved, the safety of construction is increased during the manufacturing and erection stage, and the height ratio is reduced due to the reduction of its own weight. Therefore, it is possible to secure the aesthetic scenery and economical of the bridge. As a result, it is expected that efficient construction will be possible with high-quality factory-manufactured members and cast-in-place members. In this paper, the introduction of the pre-tension method on-site and the analytical performance verification of the anchoring block for tension are included.

A Numerical Study on the Effect of Steel Casing on Bearing Capacity of Drilled Shafts for Marine Bridges (수치해석을 이용한 국내 해상교량 현장타설말뚝의 강관지지효과)

  • This study is concerned with the characteristics of the behavior of drilled shafts with steel casing, a material that is used for large bridge foundations in Korea, and especially for weak submerged ground conditions. The effect of steel casing on bearing capacity of drilled shafts was also verified in this study. Three large drilled shafts with 1.8, 2.4, 3.0m diameter respectively were selected, and 3-D finite element analysis has been undertaken on the following three models: 1) drilled shafts without steel casing, 2) drilled shafts with steel casing, 3) steel-concrete composite drilled shafts. Interface element between concrete core and steel casing was taken into account, and ground conditions and load combinations were applied which had been considered in the fields. Detailed characteristics of the stress and displacement distributions were evaluated to understand the characteristics of the behavior of the drilled shafts. Based on the study performed, the steel casing used as load-carrying materials in the drilled shafts can reduce the horizontal and vertical displacement of drilled shafts by 32~37% and 15~19% respectively compared with drilled shafts without steel casing.

Pulp Response of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate, Calcium Sulfate or Calcium Hydroxide (Mineral trioxide aggregate, calcium sulfate와 calcium hydroxide의 치수에 대한 반응)

  • This study was performed to verify the possibility of MTA and calcium sulfate as a pulp capping agent through comparing the dental pulp response in dogs after capping with MTA, calcium sulfate, and calcium hydroxide. 24 teeth of 2 dogs, 8 month old, were used in this study. Under general anesthesia, cervical cavities were prepared and pulp was exposed with sterilized #2 round bur in a high speed handpiece. MTA calcium hydroxide, and calcium sulfate were applied on the exposed pulp. Then the coronal openin,fs were sealed with IRM and light-cured composite. Two months after treatment, the animals were sacrificed. The extracted teeth were fixed in 10% neutral-buffered formalin solution and were decalcified in formic acid-sodium citrate. They were prepared for histological examination in the usual manner. The sections were stained with haematoxylin and eosin. In MTA group, a hard tissue bridges formation and newly formed odontoblasts layer was observed. There was no sign of pulp inflammatory reaction in pulp tissue. In calcium hydroxide group, there was no odontoblast layer below the dentin bridge. In pulpal tissue, chronic inflammatory reaction with variable intensity and extension occurred in all samples. In calcium sulfate group, newly formed odontoblast layer was observed below the bridge. Mild chronic inflammation with a few neutrophil infiltrations was observed on pulp tissue. These results suggest that MTA is more biocompatible on pulp tissue than calcium hydroxide or calcium sulfate.
