High Compression synthetic High Coding Using Edge Sharpening (에지 선명화에 의한 고압축 Synthetic High 부호화)

  • In this paper, we present a new synthetic high coding method which gives high image compression ratio. Given an image, only its low-pass component is transmitted by DCT coding` the high-pass component is not transmitted but synthesized using edge sharpening on the reconstructed low-pass image at the receiver. For the DCT coding which is used to encode the low-pass image, we used an improved version of Cox's variance estimator. Also, introduced are new image quality measures called GSNR and EPR which emphasize perceptual aspects of image quality. Experimental results show that the performance of the proposed synthetic high coding is better in various quality measures than that of Cox's adaptive transform coding. Also, it yields acceptable image quality with neither apparent block effect nor visible granular noise even at high compression ratio of about 30:1.

  • High-resolution satellite image processing software should be able to ensure accurate, fast, compact data processing in offline or online environment. In this paper, component software for high-resolution satellite image processing is developed using OpenGIS components and real-time data processing architecture. The developed component software is composed of three major packages, which are data provide package, user interface package, and fast data processing package. The data provider package encodes and decodes diverse image/vector data formats and give identical data access methods to developers. The user interface package supports menus, toolbars, dialogs, and events to use easier. The fast data processing package follows the OpenGIS's data processing standards, which can deal with several processors as components with standard procedural functionalities.

Character Region Detection in Natural Image Using Edge and Connected Component by Morphological Reconstruction (에지 및 형태학적 재구성에 의한 연결요소를 이용한 자연영상의 문자영역 검출)

  • Characters in natural image are an important information with various context. Previous work of character region detection algorithms is not detect of character region in case of image complexity and the surrounding lighting, similar background to character, so this paper propose an method of character region detection in natural image using edge and connected component by morphological reconstructions. Firstly, we detect edge using Canny-edge detector and connected component with local min/max value by morphological reconstructed-operation in gray-scale image, and labeling each of detected connected component elements. lastly, detected candidate of text regions was merged for generation for one candidate text region, Final text region detected by checking the similarity and adjacency of neighbor of text candidate individual character. As the results of experiments, proposed algorithm improved the correctness of character regions detection using edge and connected components.

A Study on Localization of Text in Natural Scene Images (자연 영상에서의 정확한 문자 검출에 관한 연구)

  • This paper proposes a new approach to eliminate the reflectance component for the localization of text in natural scene images. Natural scene images normally have an illumination component as well as a reflectance component. It is well known that a reflectance component usually obstructs the task of detecting and recognizing objects like texts in the scene, since it blurs out an overall image. We have developed an approach that efficiently removes reflectance components while Preserving illumination components. We decided whether an input image hits Normal or Polarized for determining the light environment, using the histogram which consisted of a red component. In the normal image, we acquired the text region without additional processing. Otherwise we removed light reflecting from the object using homomorphic filtering in the polarized image. And then this decided the each text region based on the color merging technique and the Saliency Map. Finally, we localized text region on these two candidate regions.

  • The aim of this thesis is to develop a SMT-components placement inspection system equipped with a visual sensor. The visual sensor, which consists of a camera and 2-layer LED illuminator, developed to inspect the component placement state such as missing, shift, flipping, polarity and tomb-stone. on PCB in the reflow-process. In practical applications, however, it is too hard to classify component from images mixed pad on PCB, cream solder paste and component. To overcome the problem, this thesis proposes the 2-layer illumination method and the heuristic image processing algorithms according to inspection type. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a series of experiments on the inspection were conducted. The results show that the proposed method is robust to visual noise and variations in component conditions.

  • Though the increment of using computer vision system in modern industry, there are lots of difficulties to measure precisely because of measurement error distortion phenomenon. Between these reasons, the distortion of edge is dominant reason which is occured by the blurred image. The blurred image is happened when camera can not discriminate its precise focus. To correct and generalize distortion phenomenon is imprrtant. Thus we must fix the discrimination criteria which is collected by image recognition of precise focus. The edge of image means discontinuous point of intensity, and the component of edge is discribed as high frequency component at special domain specturm of image. The good condition of focus means there are much high frequency energy in image. The method of discribing high frequency energy is gradient operater which determines the condition of focus.

Colour Linear Array Image Enhancement Method with Constant Colour

  • Digital images of cultural relics captured using line scan cameras present limitations due to uneven intensity and low contrast. To address this issue, this report proposes a colour linear array image enhancement method that can maintain a constant colour. First, the colour linear array image is converted from the red-green-blue (RGB) colour space into the hue-saturation-intensity colour space, and the three components of hue, saturation, and intensity are separated. Subsequently, the hue and saturation components are held constant while the intensity component is processed using the established intensity compensation model to eliminate the uneven intensity of the image. On this basis, the contrast of the intensity component is enhanced using an improved local contrast enhancement method. Finally, the processed image is converted into the RGB colour space. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method can significantly improve the visual effect of colour linear array images. Moreover, the objective quality evaluation parameters are improved compared to those determined using existing methods.

Single Image Dehazing Using Linear Transformation of Saturation (채도의 선형 변환을 이용한 단일 영상 안개 제거)

  • In this paper, an efficient single dehazing algorithm is proposed based on linear transformation by assuming that a linear relationship exists in saturation component between the haze image and haze-free image. First, we analyze the linearity of saturation channel, estimate the medium transmission map in terms of the saturation component. Then, the intensity of haze-free image is assumed by using CLAHE to enhance contrast of haze image. Experimental results demonstrate that proposed algorithm can naturally recover the image, especially can remove color distortion caused by conventional methods. Therefore, our approach is competitive with other state-of-the art single dehazing methods.

  • A research about facial image recognition is studied in the most of images in a full race. A representative part, effecting a facial image recognition, is eyes and a mouth. So, facial image recognition researchers have studied under the central eyes, eyebrows, and mouths on the facial images. But most people in front of a camera in everyday life are difficult to recognize a fast change of pupils. And people wear glasses. So, in this paper, we try using Principal Component Analysis(PCA) for facial image recognition in blindfold case.

Video Haze Removal Method in HLS Color Space (HLS 색상 공간에서 동영상의 안개제거 기법)

  • This paper proposes a new haze removal method for moving image sequence. Since the conventional dark channel prior haze removal method adjusts each color component separately in RGB color space, there can be severe color distortion in the haze removed output image. In order to resolve this problem, this paper proposes a new haze removal scheme that adjusts luminance and saturation components in HLS color space while retaining hue component. Also the conventional dark channel prior haze removal method is developed to obtain best haze removal performance for a single image. Therefore, if it is applied to a moving image sequence, the estimated parameter values change rapidly and the haze removed output image sequence shows unnatural glitter defects. To overcome this problem, a new parameter estimation method using Kalman filter is proposed for moving image sequence. Experimental results demonstrate that the haze removal performance of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional dark channel prior method.
