The most widely known form of multifunctional aircraft structure is smart structures for structural health monitoring (SHM). The aim is to provide automated systems whose purposes are to identify and to characterize possible damage within structures by using a network of actuators and sensors. Unfortunately, environmental and operational variability render many of the proposed damage detection methods difficult to successfully be applied. In this paper, an original robust damage detection approach using output-only vibration data is proposed. It is based on independent component analysis and matrix perturbation analysis, where an analytical threshold is proposed to get rid of statistical assumptions usually performed in damage detection approach. The effectiveness of the proposed SHM method is demonstrated numerically using finite element simulations and experimentally through a conformal load-bearing antenna structure and composite plates instrumented with piezoelectric ceramic materials.
Developing accurate prediction models for deterioration behavior represents a challenging but essential task in comprehensive Infrastructure Management Systems. The challenge may be a result of the lack of historical data, impact of unforeseen parameters, and/or the past repair/maintenance practices. These realities contribute heavily to the noticeable variability in deterioration behavior even among similar components. This paper introduces a novel approach to predict the deterioration of any infrastructure component. The approach is general as it fits any component, however the prediction is custom for a specific item to consider the inherent impacts of expected and unexpected parameters that affect its unique deterioration behavior.
This study aimed to investigate whether inhaling the aroma of essential oils could alleviate physiological stress responses and mimic the effects of forest therapy in urban settings. Briefly, 31 participants underwent stress index assessments for two days and inhaled the selected plant essential oils. The effects of this treatment on physiological responses were determined through electroencephalogram (EEG) and heart rate variability (HRV) measurements taken before and after inhaling the aroma of essential oils, extracting results for low frequency (LF) and high frequency (HF) components of HRV, as well as 𝜃 and 𝛼 brainwave activities. The results indicated that lavender oil did not yield significant differences, whereas pine, chamomile, and cypress oils exhibited significant differences in effects. Overall, stress relief was associated with enhanced 𝜃 and 𝛼 brainwave activities, a decrease in the LF component and an increase in the HF component of HRV. Among the essential oils studied, pine oil was the most effective. These findings underscore the potential of plant essential oils in replicating the therapeutic benefits of forest therapy, even in urban environments. Further investigations into their utilization are warranted to better understand and harness their therapeutic potential.
The CBD (Component Based Development) is a requisite technique for the Time-To-Market, and a highly reusable component should be provided to develop a variety of domain applications with the use of components. To increase the reusability of components, they should be developed by analyzing requirements of many different kinds of domains. However, to analyze requirements of a variety of domains related to the components to be developed and to include them inside the components will give burden to developers. Also, providing only general components that have common facilities for the several domains is not easy to accomplish the time-to-market since there are other domains that the developers have to develop. As such, developing common component through the analysis of several domains at the time of the CD (Component Development) does not always guarantee high reusability of the component, but gives burden to developers to develop another development since such components have common functions. Considering this, this paper proposes the component customization technique to reuse common components as well as special components. The reusability of the component can be increased by providing changeability of the attribute, behavior and message flow of the component. This customization technique can change the message flow to integrate developed components or to provide new functions within the component. Also, provides a technique to replace the class existing within the component with other class or to exchange the integrated component with the component having a different function so that requirements from a variety of domains may be satisfied. As such, this technique can accept the requirements of several domains. As such, this customization technique is not only the component with a common function, but it also secures reusability components in the special domain.
Software product line engineering is a method that prepares for the future reuse and supports to seamless reuse in application development process. Commonality and variability play central roles in all product line development processes. Reusable assets will become core assets by explicitly representing C&V. Indeed, the variabilities that art identified at each phase of core assets development have different levels of abstraction. In the past, these variabilities have been handled in an implicit manner and without distinguishing the characteristics of each core assets. In addition, previous approaches have depended on the experience and intuition of a domain expert to recognize commonality and variability. In this paper, we suggest a 2-dimensional analyzing method that analyzes the variabilities of core assets in software product line. In horizontal analysis process, the variation types are analyzed in requirements, architecture, and component that are produced at each phase of development process. In vertical analysis process, variations are analyzed in different abstract levels, in which the region of commonality is identified and the variation points are refined. By this method, the traceability of variations between core assets will be possible and core assets can be reused seamlessly.

In this paper, we proposed complex demodulation method(CDM) to visualize the instantaneous frequency change of LF component and HF component of HRV signals, which represent the dynamics of sympathetic and parasympathetic (vagal) tone, respectively. As we know the range of the center frequencies of each autonomic tones, we could apply complex demodulation method. To simulate the heart rate variability signal, the IFPM model was adopted for generation of simulated cardiac event series. Then, we can visualize and access the dynamic changes of LF and HF component of autonomic tones in the time-frequency domain.
Software product-lines methodology is the software development paradigm to build the target system by customizing the variable part of software assets according to requirements. To attain this, the commonalities and variabilities of the system family should be modeled explicitly at early stage. Although the researches on general software product-lines are active, the researches on component-based real-time embedded software product-lines are rather inactive. In this paper a code generation system to support the functional variabilities via feature model and generate the code for synchronization via state model is proposed to increase the productivity of the development of the real-time embedded software product-lines.

In this paper, it is aimed to determine the stochastic response of a suspension bridge subjected to spatially varying ground motions considering the geometric nonlinearity. Bosphorus Suspension Bridge built in Turkey and connects Europe to Asia in Istanbul is selected as a numerical example. The spatial variability of the ground motion is considered with the incoherence, wave-passage and site-response effects. The importance of site-response effect which arises from the difference in the local soil conditions at different support points of the structure is also investigated. At the end of the study, mean of the maximum and variance response values obtained from the spatially varying ground motions are compared with those of the specialised cases of the ground motion model. It is seen that each component of the spatially varying ground motion model has important effects on the dynamic behaviour of the bridge. The response values obtained from the general excitation case, which also includes the site-response effect causes larger response values than those of the homogeneous soil condition cases. The variance values calculated for the general excitation case are dominated by dynamic component at the deck and Asian side tower. The response values obtained for the site-response effect alone are larger than the response values obtained for the incoherence and wave-passage effects, separately. It can be concluded that suspension bridges are sensitive to the spatial variability of ground motion. Therefore, the incoherence, the wave-passage and especially the site-response effects should be considered in the stochastic analysis of this type of engineering structures.
It has been reported that sudden cardiac death and ventricular tachycardia occur after treatment of tetralogy of fallot(TOF). It is regarded that ventricular arrythmia is the main source or the sudden cardiac death, but it is not verified. It is likely that TOF has effect on the heart rate variability because of the ventricular arrythmia. We study how complex and periodic heart rate dynamics change in the normal children (n=13) and TOF children (n=13) throughout 24 hours. We recorded 24-hour holter ECG, and segmented each ECG data into 1 hour length. We analyze each HR time series, and quantify the overall complexity of each HR time series by its correlation dimension. We also calculate the power spectrum of HR, and obtain low-frequency component (0.03-0.15Hz) and high-frequency component (0.15-0.4Hz). We compare the results between normal and TOF groups throughout 24 hours. TOF group have lower correlation dimension ($4.055{\pm}0.4134$ vs. $4.9310{\pm}0.2054$, p<0.05) than the normal group, even though there are no significant differences in the low($0.9864{\pm}0.5598$ vs. $1.5560{\pm}0.8325$, p<0.05) and high($1.1168{\pm}0.1.1448$ vs. $0.9271{\pm}0.6528$, p<0.05) frequency components. It can be concluded that HR time series of TOF group are more regular than that of normal group, and that correlation dimension reveals a nonlinear characteristics of HR time series which is not determined in the frequency domain.
Background: This study evaluated the effect of remimazolam and propofol on changes in autonomic nerve activity caused by surgical stimulation during orthognathic surgery, using power spectrum analysis of blood pressure variability (BPV) and heart rate variability (HRV), and their respective associations with cardiovascular fluctuations. Methods: A total of 34 patients undergoing Le Fort I osteotomy were randomized to the remimazolam (Group R, 17 cases) or propofol (Group P, 17 cases) groups. Observables included the low-frequency component of BPV (BPV LF; index of vasomotor sympathetic nerve activity), high-frequency component of HRV (HRV HF; index of parasympathetic nerve activity), balance index of the low- and high-frequency components of HRV (HRV LF/HF; index of sympathetic nerve activity), heart rate (HR), and systolic blood pressure (SBP). Four observations were made: (1) baseline, (2) immediately before down-fracture, (3) down-fracture, and (4) 5 min after down-fracture. Data from each observation period were compared using a two-way analysis of variance with a mixed model. A Bonferroni multiple comparison test was performed in the absence of any interaction. One-way analysis of variance followed by Tukey's multiple comparisons test was performed when a significant interaction was observed between time and group, with P < 0.05 indicating statistical significance. Results: Evaluation of autonomic nerve activity in comparison with baseline during down-fracture showed a significant increase in BPV LF (P < 0.001), an increasing trend in HRV LF/HF in Group P, and an increasing trend in HRV HF in Group R. There were no significant differences in HR or SBP between the two groups. Conclusion: During down-fracture of Le Fort I osteotomy, sympathetic nerve activity was predominant with propofol anesthesia, and parasympathetic nerve activity was predominant with remimazolam anesthesia.
