A Study on Establishment of the Levee GIS Database Using LiDAR Data and WAMIS Information (LiDAR 자료와 WAMIS 정보를 활용한 제방 GIS 데이터베이스 구축에 관한 연구)

  • A levee is defined as an man-made structure protecting the areas from temporary flooding. This paper suggests a methodology for establishing the levee GIS database using the airborne topographic LiDAR(Light Detection and Ranging) data taken in the Nakdong river basins and the WAMIS(WAter Management Information System) information. First, the National Levee Database(NLD) established by the USACE(United States Army Corps Engineers) and the levee information tables established by the WAMIS are compared and analyzed. For extracting the levee information from the LiDAR data, the DSM(Digital Surface Model) is generated from the LiDAR point clouds by using the interpolation method. Then, the slope map is generated by calculating the maximum rates of elevation difference between each pixel of the DSM and its neighboring pixels. The slope classification method is employed to extract the levee component polygons such as the levee crown polygons and the levee slope polygons from the slope map. Then, the levee information database is established by integrating the attributes extracted from the identified levee crown and slope polygons with the information provided by the WAMIS. Finally, this paper discusses the advantages and limitations of the levee GIS database established by only using the LiDAR data and suggests a future work for improving the quality of the database.

  • Going abreast of high public concerns on the environment, the need of environmental modeling has been increased to assess the impact of space exploitation of environment. GIS offers potential solutions to the many problems encountered during water-quality modeling. But there are also many problems associated with the modeling. The preparation of necessary parameters for the modeling can be complicated. Also, the results from one model can be different from each other even the same area is analyzed. This paper aims to develop the data processing system to couple the Qual2E and HyGIS in which Qual2E input and output data files can be created, modified and processed using HyGIS and assess the performance of the system. A structural analysis and standardization of modeling are conducted to identify data flow and processing of Qual2E. Algorithms of the defined processors are designed and developed as component modules. The data model of HyGIS-Qual2E is designed, and GUI(Graphical User Interface) is developed using Visual Basic 6.0 and GDK.

  • The interface system, GIS-AGNPS was to be validated with field data from six tested small watersheds ranging from 0.7 to 4.7$km^2$ in size which have steep topography and complex landuses. The model validation involved the calibration of input parameters and component modifications, in efforts to develop a model applicable to general uses for identifying and controlling nonpoint source pollution loads from agricultural watersheds. The simulated direct runoff from AGNPS was in good agreement with the field data for the averaged antecedent moisture conditions or AMC- II. The results differed, however, from the observed for AMC- I or III. A simple empirical relationship was proposed to estimate the curve number for AMC- I or m from AMC- II, which was found to result in simulated runoff close to the observed. The peak runoff relationship at AGNPS was also modified to reflect the watershed conditions and tested satisfactorily with the field data. The simulated sediment yields from the watersheds were fair as compared to the observed. Nutrient loads simulated from the model were different from the observed data. It appeared that the model was incapable of adequate depicting nutrient transport processes at paddy field and other landuses of the tested watersheds. Some modifications may be needed for the accurate representing the processes at paddy field.

  • 본 연구에서는 GIS를 이용하여 산불관련 데이터베이스를 구축하고 효과적인 산불 현황정보 검색시스템을 개발하녀 산불 관리자에게 효율적인 공간분석 도구를 제공함으로서 산불에 관한 종합적인 공간정보를 빠른 시간 내에 분석하여 속성을 갱신·추출 할 수 있도록 하는 효과적인 GUI(Graphic User Interface)를 개발하였다. 이를 위하여 최근 10년간의 산불현황 통계자료를 이용한 전국 시·군단위의 공간분포도를 작성하여 전국 산불 발생현황을 시·공간적으로 분석하고 산불 발생에 미치는 다양한 요인들과의 상관성을 분석 가능하였다. 특히 최근 산불발생이 빈번한 삼척시의 지형도 및 임상도, 위성영상, 현지사진을 이용하여 GIS 데이터베이스를 구축함으로서 산불 발생위험지역에 대한 보다 상세한 정보를 얻을 수 있다. 본 시스템은 응용프로그램 개발을 위한 플랫폼은 IBM호환 PC에서 Windows 98을 운영체 제로 하여 DBMS는 Access 2000을 이용하였고 프로그래밍 언어로는 객체지향언어인 Visual Basic 6.0과 GIS 기능을 구현하기 위해서 Component GIS인 MapObjects 2.0을 사용 하였다. 그 결과 산불관리자는 진화에 필요한 관리구역내의 정보를 신속하게 제공받을 뿐만 아니라 산불방제사업에 대한 효과적인 의사결정지원과 함께 실무자 중심의 산불관리행정을 도모하 고 산림자원관리비가 효율적으로 이용될 것이다.

  • Geographic data which are difficult to handle by the characteristics of spatial variation and variety turned into a possibility to analyze with tlie computer-aided digital map and the use of Geographic Information System(GIS). The purpose of this study is to develop and apply a GIS application model (GISCELWAB) for the spatial simulation of surface runoff from a small watershed. This paper discribes the modeling procedure and the applicability of the cell water balance model (CELWAB) which calculates the water balance of a cell and simulates surface runoff of watershed simultaneously by the interaction of cells. The cell water balance model was developed to simulate the temporal and spatial storage depth and surface runoff of a watershed. The CELWAB model was constituted by Inflow-Outflow Calculator (JOC) which was developed to connect cell-to-cell transport mechanism automatically in this study. The CELWAB model requests detail data for each component of a cell hydrologic process. In this study, therefore, BANWOL watershed which have available field data was selected, and sensitivity for several model parameters was analyzed. The simulated results of surface runoff agreed well with the observed data for the rising phase of hydrograph except the recession phase. Each mean of relative errors for peak discharge and peak time was 0.21% and2.1 1% respectively. In sensitivity analysis of CELWAB , antecedent soil moisture condition(AMC) affected most largely the model.

  • Geographic Information System (GIS) has advantage of analyzing spatial distributed data and handling spatial data for hydrologic analysis. Hydrologic Engineering Center's Hydrologic Modeling System(HEC-HMS) with HEC-GeoHMS was used to analyze flood runoff at agricultural small watershed. HEC-GeoHMS, which is an ArcView GIS extension designed to process geospatial data for HEC-HMS, is a useful tool for storing, managing, analyzing, and displaying spatially distributed data. Hydroligical component including peak discharge, time to peak, direct runoff, baseflow for Balhan study watershed, which is located in Whasung city, Kyunggi province, having an area of $29.79km^2$, were calculated using the HEC-HMS model with HEC-GeoHMS.

  • In this study the spatial distribution characters of burnt forest site was first considered by analyzing spatial data and monitoring forest landscape before/after lire to restore the site. Then suitable tree species on each forest site should be selected through the weighted score analysis of GIS analysis methods. Finally. the best forest stand arrangement method could be simulated on the system for the advanced reforestation technology in Korea. For this purpose, the virtual reforestation system was implemented by using the concept of virtual GIS and CBD (Component Based Development) method. By use of this system the change of forest landscape of burnt forest area some years after reforestation practice could be detected and monitored by applying the site index and 3D modeling method.

  • This paper describes the simulation study. conducted on the propagation characteristics of AE signal. In the case of gas insulation, such as $SF_6$, the equipment is less affected by the environment condition than air insulation, because the component parts of equipment were placed in the enclosure, which is filled with compressed gas. But. when the breakdown in the electric insulation occurs. it takes much time and economical efforts to repair. Therefore it is very important to diagnose the equipment before the accident. And. in general. UHF and AE signal is the most common transducer to diagnose the state of the power equipment, so, in this investigation, we make a experimental apparatus with aluminum plate and transient analysis with ANSYS to observe the propagation characteristics of AE signal. Through the result of the analysis. we can make a further understanding on the propagation characteristics of AE signal, and get the fundamental skills for the GIS diagnosis.

  • This paper describes the principles and structures of an expert system for arrester diagnosis. The expert system analyzes and decides the arrester condition by total leakage current, its harmonic component, and temperature because the deterioration of arresters appeared in an increase of leakage current and surface temperature of it. Additionally, influence of system voltage harmonics and ambient temperatures on leakage current changes were considered in the design. The expert system is consisted of a data acquisition module and a computer for monitoring. The acquired analog data are digitalized and transmitted to the computer by an optical link which is free from interference.
