A common task in assembly modeling is the determination of the position and orientation of a set of components by solving the spatial relationships between them. Assembly models could be constructed at various levels of abstraction. They could be classified into component or geometry-level assembly models. The geometry-level assembly design approach using mating constraints such as against and fits is widely used in the commercial modelers, but it may be very tedious in some cases fur designer. In this paper, we propose a new method to construct an assembly model at the component-level by extracting joint mating features from the kinematics constraints specified between components. The assembly model constructed using the proposed method includes hierarchical and relational assembly models, component/sub-assembly positions and degrees of freedom information. The proposed method is more intuitive and natural way of assembly design and it guarantees the topological robustness of assembly modification such as component replacement and modification.
Component-Based Development(CBD) leverages software reusability and diminishes development costs. Various works about component models, such as EJB, COM, and CCM are in progress to support CBD. However, current component models hardly support flexible assembly of pre-built components. To cope with this problem, architecture for component assembly must be defined in the abstract level and the gap between system architecture and its implementation should be diminished in the implementation level. This paper proposes a method for architecture-based design and implementation of component assembly. Architecture is described by the ADL, and the tool, COBALT Assembler, is introduced to support the proposed design and implementation phase of component assembly.
Component-based development leverages software reusability and reduces development costs. Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) is a component model developed to reduce the complexity of software development and to facilitate reuse of components. However, EJB does not support component assembly by a plug-and-play technique due to the hard-wired composition at the code level. To cope with this problem, an architecture for EJB component assembly is defined at the abstract level and the inconsistency between the system architecture and its implementation must be eliminated at the implementation level. We propose a component-based application development tool named the COBALT assembler that supports the design and implementation of EJB component assembly by a plug-and-play technique based on the architecture style. The system architecture is first defined by the Architecture Description Language (ADL). The wrapper code and glue code are then generated for the assembly. After the consistency between the architecture and its implementation is checked, the assembled EJB components are deployed in an application server as a new composite component. We use the COBALT assembler for a shopping mall system and demonstrate that it can promote component reuse and leverage the system maintainability.
In view of component based development, system development has replaced by assembling existent software components instead of coding and now component assembly research has progressed. In this paper, we formalized the specification using relationship between components for component assembly. If components are assembled through connector, the assembly is available without method call or modification. Therefore in this paper, we formalized the specification and constraint condition for creation of connector which connects components so that the connector is created automatically through the specification and constraint condition.

Determination of assembly sequence of components is a key issue in assembly operation. Although a number of articles dealing with assembly sequence determination have appeared, an efficient and general methodology for complex products has yet to appear. The objective of this paper is to present the problems and models used to generate assembly sequence from design data. An essential idea of this research is to acquire a finite number of voxels from any complex geometric entity, such as 3D planar polygons, hollow spheres, cylinders. cones, tori, etc. In order to find a feasible assembly sequence, the following four steps are needed: (1) The components composing of an assembly product are identified and then the geometric entities of each component are extracted. (2) The geometric entities extracted in the first step are translated into a number of voxels. (3) All the mating or coupling relations between components are found by considering relations between voxels. (4) The components to be disassembled are determined using CCGs (Component Coupling Graph).

This paper deals with the PCB assembly time minimization problem that the PAP (pick-and-placement) machine pickup the K-weighted group of N-components, loading, and place into the PCB placement location. This problem considers the rotational turret velocity according to component weight group and moving velocity of distance in two component placement locations in PCB. This paper suggest heavy-weight component group first pick-and-place strategy that the feeder sequence fit to the placement location Hamiltonean cycle sequence. This algorithm applies the quadratic assignment problem (QAP) that considers feeder sequence and location sequence, and the linear assignment problem (LAP) that considers only feeder sequence. The proposed algorithm shorten the assembly time than iATMA for QAP, and same result as iATMA that shorten the assembly time than ATMA.
This paper considers a two-component assembly system that makes different types of purchasing contracts by component type and studies the issue of coordinating those contracts. Acquisition of type 1 component is based on the long-term contract. In contrast, type 2 component is intermittently purchased under the sort-term contract. We identify the structural properties of the optimal short-term contract and investigate how the changes in system parameters affect the optimal performance. To provide managerial insights, we compare the short-term and long-term contracts for type 2 component and discuss the conditions that make the short-term contract preferable to the long-term contract. We also present a result which shows that coordinating the contracts of type 1 and type 2 components can be significantly profitable over uncoordinating them.

We propose an image segmentation method for auto-teaching system of PCB (Printed Circuit Board) assembly inspection machines. The inspection machine acquires images of all components in PCB, and then compares each image with its standard image to find the assembly errors such as misalignment, inverse polarity, and tombstone. The component window that is the area of component to be acquired by camera, is one of the teaching data for operating the inspection machines. To reduce the teaching time of the machine, we newly develop the image processing method to extract the component window automatically from the image of PCB. The proposed method segments the component window by excluding the soldering parts as well as board background. We binarize the input image by use of HSI color model because it is difficult to discriminate the RGB colors between components and backgrounds. The linear combination of the binarized images then enhances the component window from the background. By use of the horizontal and vertical projection of histogram, we finally obtain the component widow. The experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed method.
In this paper, the principle of operation. the part characteristic, characteristic of component movement, analysis are carried out for camcoder iris assembly which is one of the important element component in Video large projection TV instrument, and some Know-how for development of element component is also included. The magnetic field circuit for the small and simple structure with low power consumption is introduced and new materials of yoke for small motor system is suggested. Especially, the relation with remained magnetic field and operation duration time is analyzed by experimental results. Some problems of nonlinear torque characteristics include to obtain the simple and low cost structure in domestic production of element component is analyzed. Furthermore, development procedure is suggested for iris assembly and some methods to reduce the burr with some check points for small precise accessories are explained.

Economic component screening procedures for multi-component assembly products supplied with warranty are proposed. It is assumed that the screening variable is continuous and the performance variable is dichotomous. Logistic and normal models are considered; the proportion of conforming items is a logistic function of the screening variable in the logistic model and the screening variable given the performance variable is normally distributed in the normal model. Cost models are constructed which involve three cost components; screening inspection cost for each component, cost due to disposing a rejected component, and warranty cost for an assembly product. Methods of finding the optimal screening procedures are presented and numerical examples are given.
