모바일 환경에서 HEVC 인트라 인코딩의 계산 복잡도 감소를 위한 영상 특성 기반의 블록 후보 조기 결정 방법 (Texture-based Early Decision of Block Sizes for the Complexity Reduction of HEVC Intra-Encoding in the Mobile Environment)

  • Compared to the former H.264 standard, the number of the prediction modes has highly increased in HEVC intra prediction. Compression efficiency and accurate prediction are significantly improved. However, the computational complexity increases as well. To solve this problem, this paper proposes the new scheme where not only prediction modes but also block partition candidate are early chosen. Compared to the original intra prediction in HEVC, the proposed scheme achieves about 38% reduction in processing cycles with a marginal loss in compression efficiency.

  • Peak power reduction techniques in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been an important subject for many researchers for over 20 years. In this letter, we propose a side-information-free technique that is based on the concept of random variable (RV) transformation. The suggested method transforms RVs into other RVs, aiming to reshape the constellation that will consequently produce OFDM symbols with a reduced peak-to-average power ratio. The proposed method has no limitation on the mapping type or the mapping order and has no significant effect on the bit error rate performance compared to other methods presented in the literature. Additionally, the computational complexity does not increase.

On a Reduction of Pitch Searching Time by Preliminary Pitch in the CELP Vocoder

  • Code Excited Linear Prediction(CELP) as a speech coder exhibits good performance at data rates below 4.8 kbps. The major drawback to CELP type coders is their large amount of computation. In this paper, we propose a new pitch search method that preserves the quality of the CELP vocoder with reduced complexity. The basic idea is to restrict the pitch searching range by estimating the preliminary pitches. Applying the proposed method to the CELP vocoder, we can get approximately 87% complexity reduction in the pitch search.

  • Code Excited Linear Prediction (CELP) speech coders exhibit good performance at data rates below 4.8 kbps. The major drawback to CELP type coders is their many computation. In this paper, we propose a new pitch search method that preserves the quality of the CELP vocoder with reducing complexity. The basic idea is to apply the preprocessing technique beforehand grasping the autocorrelation property of speech waveform. By using the proposed method, we can get approximately 77% complexity reduction in the pitch search.

  • A Gaussian noise is caused by surrounding environment or channel interference when transmitting image. The noise reduces not only image quality degradation but also high-level image processing performance. The Non-Local Means (NLM) filter finds similarity in the neighboring sets of pixels to remove noise and assigns weights according to similarity. The weighted average is calculated based on the weight. The NLM filter method shows low noise cancellation performance and high complexity in the process of finding the similarity using weight allocation and neighbor set. In order to solve these problems, we propose an algorithm that shows an excellent noise reduction performance by using Summed Square Image (SSI) to reduce the complexity and applying the weighting function based on a cosine Gaussian kernel function. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • The complexity and consistency are important factors that affect human information processing in use of product. In this study, complexity and consistency of product(remote controller) are measured by Task Action Grammar(TAG) model. Also, new design alternative of the user interface is presented and evaluated. The results show that the consistent system and the good correspondence between hierarchical structure of system and user's mental model lead to the reduction of errors and enhanced user's performance.

  • 분산 비디오 압축 기술은 부호화기의 복잡한 과정을 복호화기로 이동시킴으로써 저복잡도 부호화기를 가능하게 한다. 하지만 WZ 복호화기는 움직임 예측/보상 과정뿐만 아니라 채널 복호 과정까지 수행하기 때문에 복호화 과정의 높은 복잡도가 문제점으로 지적되고 있다. LDPC 부호의 복호화는 상당히 반복적인 과정으로 수행되기 때문에 그 수행 횟수만큼 복잡도가 늘어나는데, 실제로 이러한 반복적인 복호 과정은 전체 WZ 복호화 복잡도의 60% 이상을 차지하고 있기 때문에 복잡도 절감의 주요 대상이다. 따라서 이러한 복잡도 절감을 위해 과거에 HDA(Hard Decision Aided) 방법을 적용하는 방법이 제안되었다. HDA 방법은 해당 패리티에 대한 복호 과정의 복잡도를 상당량 줄여주지만, 채널 복호가 성공하기에 부족한 패리티량에 대해서도 여전히 복호 과정을 수행하는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 이러한 소모적인 과정을 줄임으로써 추가적인 복잡도 절감 효과를 얻을 수 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 비트 플레인 간의 상관도와 시간적 상관도에 기반하여 최소 연산으로 패리티 요구량을 예측하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안 방법과 HDA 방법을 함께 적용할 경우 채널 복호 과정에서는 평균 72% 정도의 고속 복호가 가능하며, 저하되는 율 왜곡 성능은 -0.0275 dB (BDPSNR) 정도로상당히 낮다.

Matrix Decomposition for Low Computational Complexity in Orthogonal Precoding of N-continuous Schemes for Sidelobe Suppression of OFDM Signals

  • N-continuous orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a precoding method for sidelobe suppression of OFDM signals and seamlessly connects OFDM symbols up to the high-order derivative for sidelobe suppression, which is suitable for suppressing out-of-band radiation. However, it severely degrades the error rate as it increases the continuous derivative order. Two schemes for orthogonal precoding of N-continuous OFDM have been proposed to achieve an ideal error rate while maintaining sidelobe suppression performance; however, the large size of the precoder matrices in both schemes causes very high computational complexity for precoding and decoding. This paper proposes matrix decomposition of precoder matrices with a large size in the orthogonal precoding schemes in order to reduce computational complexity. Numerical experiments show that the proposed method can drastically reduce computational complexity without any performance degradation.

  • 본 논문에서는 다중 사용자 MIMO 시스템을 위한 고정 복잡도를 갖는 스피어 인코더 (FSE)를 제안하고, FSE의 복잡도를 감소시키는 2가지 방법을 제시한다. FSE는 성능과 복잡도 간의 트레이드오프 관계를 적응적으로 조절할 수 있고, 병렬의 트리 탐색구조를 적용함으로써 프리코딩 지연을 상당히 감소시킬 수 있다. $4\times4$ 다중 사용자 MIMO 시스템에서 시뮬레이션을 수행한 결과, 제안한 FSE는 QRDM 인코더 (QRDM-E)에 비하여 작은 BER 성능 감소를 가져오지만 최적의 다이버시티 오더를 달성함과 더불어 일반적인 QRDM-E 복잡도의 16%정도만을 갖고, 인코딩 처리량(throughput)이 7.5배 향상됨을 확인하였다.
