Early Stop Algorithm using the Parity Check Method for LDPC Decoders Based on IRIG 106 Standards (Parity Check 방식을 이용한 IRIG 106 표준 기반 LDPC 복호기의 조기 종료 알고리즘)

  • LDPC, known for its excellent error correction capability, has been adopted as the channel coding technique in the IRIG 106 standard, which is standard for data transmission methods in the aerospace field. Iterative codes such as LDPC require large block sizes and number of iterations in order to improve performance. However, large number of iterations induce computational complexity and power consumption. To solve these problems, this paper presents a parity check-based early stop algorithm that reduces the average number of iterations while maintaining the same performance. BER performance and iteration reduction amounts are compared between early stop algorithm and conventional method that has fixed number of iterations for various coding rate and information bit size defined in the IRIG 106 standard. Through simulation results, we confirmed required iteration numbers are reduced about 50% above without performance loss.

Synergizing Climate Change and Ocean Regimes: A Comprehensive International Legal Approach for Ocean Acidification Governance

  • Ocean acidification poses a myriad of challenges, particularly to marine environments and ecosystems. Its negative repercussions are equally obvious from a human-centric perspective. Despite efforts to address ocean acidification through various international legal frameworks, current international legal frameworks, such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the United Nations Convention on Climate Change, which represent the climate change regime and the ocean regime, respectively, fall short of adequately addressing ocean acidification challenges. Because of the climate change regime's atmospheric-centered perspective and the ocean regime's pollution-oriented perspective, ocean acidification falls between the cracks and is not a priority for either regime. To adequately address the issues posed by ocean acidification, a concerted effort between the the legal regime addressing climate change and the legal regime regulating maritime affairs is crucial. This effort might be realized by developing a robust governance system that encompasses both of these regimes, which are specifically tailored to tackle ocean acidification. Given the complexity of ocean acidification governance, the distribution of roles for both regimes should be thoroughly examined. Due to its broad reach, the ocean regime might take the lead in directing the trajectory of ocean acidification, while the climate change regime might provide assistance within the context of ocean acidification governance. Active mutual reference and due diligence obligations could be employed in this scenario to bridge the gaps created by both the climate change regime and the ocean regime regarding ocean acidification. The active interaction between these regimes might pave the way for proper ocean acidification governance in order to meet the challenges posed by ocean acidification.

Edge Detection System for Noisy Video Sequences Using Partial Reconfiguration (부분 재구성을 이용한 노이즈 영상의 경계선 검출 시스템)

  • In this paper, the Zynq system-on-chip (SoC) platform is used to design an adaptive noise reduction and edge-detection system using partial reconfiguration. Filters are implemented in a partially reconfigurable (PR) region to provide high computational complexity in real-time, 1080p video processing. In addition, partial reconfiguration enables better utilization of hardware resources in the embedded system from autonomous replacement of filters in the same PR region. The proposed edge-detection system performs adaptive noise reduction if the noise density level in the incoming video sequences exceeds a given threshold value. Results of implementation show that the proposed system improves the accuracy of edge-detection results (14~20 times in Pratt's Figure of Merit) through self-reconfiguration of filter bitstreams triggered by noise density level in the video sequences. In addition, the ZyCAP controller implemented in this paper enables about 2.1 times faster reconfiguration when compared to a PCAP controller.

Performance Analysis of Multicarrier Code Selection CDMA System for PAPR Reduction in Multipath Fading Channel (PAPR을 줄이기 위한 Multicarrier Code Select CDMA시스템의 다중 경로 페이딩 채널에서 성능 분석)

  • Multicarrier direct sequence code-division multiple access CDMA(MC DS-CDMA) is an attractive technique for achieving high data rate transmission even if the potentially large peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) is an important factor for its application. On the other hand, code select CDMA(CS-CDMA) is an attractive technique with constant amplitude transmission of multicode signal irregardless of subchannels by introducing code selection method. In this paper we propose a new multiple access scheme based on the combination of MC DS-CDMA and CS-CDMA. Proposed scheme, which we called MC CS-CDMA, includes the sutclasses of MC DS-CDMA and CS-CDMA as special cases. The performance of this system is investigated for multipath Sequency selective fading channel and maximal ratio combining with rake receiver. In addition the PAPR of proposed system is compare with that of both MC BS-CDMA and CS-CDMA. Simulation results show that proposed system improves PAPR reduction than MC DS-CDMA at the expense of the complexity of receiver and the number of available non. Also, the numerical result shows that the proposed system is better performance than MC DS-CDMA due to the increasing processing gain and the number of time diversity gain.

  • Recent increasement of metropolitan infrastructure due to rapid expansion and development of urban areas which caused complexity and diversification of management system demands higher cost and effort to manage and maintain the facilities. The reason why it requires continuous and systematic management by national government is that the infrastructure facilities takes important role as it is directly related to public's living. Thus this study suggests an efficient management plan for increasement of work efficiency, cost reduction, and time saving by introducing 3D geospatial information system for water distribution reservoirs which is managed by the Office of Waterworks Seoul Metropolitan Government. This study evaluates and quantifies the range of work improvement using the 3D GIS technology through carrying out a survey targeting people in charge of the Office of Waterworks Seoul Metropolitan Government and other 8 offices. From the result of the research, applying the 3D-GIS improves by 90.32%, 93.55%, and 91.61% in the area of work efficiency, cost reduction, and time saving respectively. Consequently, using 3D GIS in future management of infrastructure could be used as a way of producing base data which supports administrative decision making through statistical and case analysis based on continuous data management. Also it would contribute to improving work efficiency by improving management system through preventing data omission.

Wrap-around Motion Vector Prediction for 360 Video Streams in Versatile Video Coding (VVC에서 360 비디오를 위한 랩-어라운드 움직임 벡터 예측 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a motion vector prediction method that increases the coding efficiency at the boundary of an image by utilizing the 360 video characteristic. In the current VVC method, the location of a neighbor block is excluded from the candidate list for inter prediction in case that it is out of boundary. This can reduce coding efficiency as well as subject quality. To solve this problem, we construct new candidates adding the location of the neighbor block at the boundary of the picture from already decoded information based on the projection method for 360 video coding. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we compare with VTM6.0 and 360Lib9.1 under Random Access condition of JVET-360 CTC. As a result, the coding performance shows a BD-rate reduction of 0.02% on average in luma component and 0.05%, 0.06% on average in chroma components respectively, without additional computational complexity. The coding performance at the picture boundary shows a BD-rate reduction of 0.29% on average in luma component and 0.45%, 0.43% on average in chroma components, respectively. Furthermore, we perform subjective quality test with the DSCQS method and obtain MOS values. The MOS value is improved by 0.03 value, and we calculate BD-MOS using MOS value and bit-rate. As a result, the proposed method improved performance by up to 8.78% and 5.18% on average.

FPGA Mapping Incorporated with Multiplexer Tree Synthesis (멀티플렉서 트리 합성이 통합된 FPGA 매핑)

  • The practical constraints on the commercial FPGAs which contain dedicated wide function multiplexers in their slice structure are incorporated with one of the most advanced FPGA mapping algorithms based on the AIG (And-Inverter Graph), one of the best logic representations in academia. As the first step of the mapping process, cuts are enumerated as intermediate structures. And then, the cuts which can be mapped to the multiplexers are recognized. Without any increased complexity, the delay and area of multiplexers as well as LUTs are calculated after checking the requirements for the tree construction such as symmetry and depth limit against dynamically changing mapping of neighboring nodes. Besides, the root positions of multiplexer trees are identified from the RTL code, and annotated to the AIG as AOs (Auxiliary Outputs). A new AIG embedding the multiplexer tree structures which are intentionally synthesized by Shannon expansion at the AOs, is overlapped with the optimized AIG. The lossless synthesis technique which employs FRAIG (Functionally Reduced AIG) is applied to this approach. The proposed approach and techniques are validated by implementing and applying them to two RISC processor examples, which yielded 13~30% area reduction, and up to 32% delay reduction. The research will be extended to take into account the constraints on the dedicated hardware for carry chains.

An Adaptive Temporal Suppression for Reducing Network Traffic in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서 통신량 감소를 위한 적응적 데이터 제한 기법)

  • Current wireless sensor networks are considered to support more complex operations ranging from military to health care which require energy-efficient and timely transmission of large amounts of data. In this paper, we propose an adaptive temporal suppression algorithm which exploits a temporal correlation among sensor readings. The proposed scheme can significantly reduce the number of transmitted sensor readings by sensor node, and consequently decrease the energy consumption and delay. Instead of transmitting all sensor readings from sensor node to sink node, the proposed scheme is to selectively transmit some elements of sensor readings using the adaptive temporal suppression, and the sink node is able to reconstruct the original data without deteriorating data quality by linear interpolation. In our proposed scheme, sensing data stream at sensor node is divided into many small sensing windows and the transmission ratio in each window is decided by the window complexity. It is defined as the number of a fluctuation point which has greater absolute gradient than threshold value. We have been able to achieve up about 90% communication reduction while maintaining a minimal distortion ratio 6.5% in 3 samples among 4 ones.

Total Degradation Performance Evaluation of the Time- and Frequency-Domain Clipping in OFDM Systems (OFDM 시스템에서 시간 및 주파수 영역 클리핑의 Total Degradation 성능평가)

  • OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is a special case of multicarrier transmission, where a single data stream is transmitted over a number of lower-rate subcarrier. One of the main reasons to use OFDM is to increase robustness against frequency-selective fading or narrowband interference. Unfortunately, an OFDM signal consists of a number of independently modulated subcarriers, which can give a large PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) when added up coherently. In this paper, we investigate the performance of a simple PAPR reduction scheme, which requires no change of a receiver structure or no additional information transmission. The approach we employed is clipping in the time and frequency domains. The time-domain clipping is carried out with a predetermined clipping level while the frequency-domain clipping is done within EVM (Error Vector Magnitude). This approach is suboptimal with lower computational complexity compared to the optimal method. This evaluation is carried out on the OFDM system with an nonlinear amplifier. The simulation results demonstrated that the PAPR reduction algorithm is one of ways to reduce the effects of the nonlinear distortion of an HPA (High Power Amplifier).

  • Orthgonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) system is effective for the high data rate transmission in the frequency selective fading channel. In this paper we propose PAPR(Peak to Average Power Ratio) reduction method of problem in OFDM system used Fuzzy theory that often control machine. This thesis proposes PAPR reducing method of OFDM system using Fuzzy theory. The advantages for using Fuzzy theory to reduce PAPR are that it is easy to manage the data and embody the hardware, and required smaller amount of operation. Firstly, we proposed simple algorithm that is reconstructed at receiver with transmitted overall PAPR which is reduced PAPR of sub-block using Fuzzy. Although there are some drawbacks that the operation of the system is increased comparing conventional OFDM system and it is needed to send the information about Fuzzy indivisually, it is assured that the performance of the system is enhanced for PAPR reducing. To evaluate the perfomance, the proposed search algorithm is compared with the proposed algorithm in terms of the complementary cumulative distribution function(CCDF) of the PAPR and the computational complexity. As a result of using the QPSK and 16QAM modulation, Fuzzy theory method is more an effective method of reducing 2.3 dB and 3.1 dB PAPR than exiting OFDM system when FFT size(N)=512, and oversampling=4 in the base PR of $10^{-5}$.
