  • Manufacturing the complex surface plates in Stern and Stem is major factor in computing the processing cost of a ship. If these parts are effectively classified, it helps to compute the processing cost and find the way of cut-down on the processing costs. This study is intended to effectively classify surface plates. To solve this problem, we apply Pattern Classification of Neural-Networks.

  • This paper represents that parts of a large generator operating in 1000 MW are affected by centrifugal forces due to high-speed rotation in 3600 rpm and 3D FEM Analyses are required to obtained the structural reliability of the generator. From these results, one would know the weakest locations and the stress distributions. The fatigue life is calculated in order to grasp the remaining life of generator. 2D and 3D analyses are performed to calculate stresses of the generator rotor and the retaining ring. From 2D results, we find the SCF at the slot and sub-slot of the rotor. 3D analysis is applied at the end part of generator rotor, which represents complex geometry, and rotor and retaining ring shrink thermally. With these results, designers of rotor and retaining ring can compare with the results of design code and verify the stress distributions of generator rotor and retaining ring, and then calculate the remaining life from the low-cycle fatigue data.

  • As it is difficult to construct a micro-fluidic system composed of micro-mixers, micro-channels and/or micro-chambers in a single process, an assembly process is typically used. The assembling and bonding of micro-parts, however, introduces other problems. In this work, a virtual assembly process was developed that can be used to design various micro-fluidic systems before actual fabrication commences. In the process, the information required for the micro-stereolithography process is generated automatically. Consequently, complex micro-fluidic systems can be fabricated in a single process, thereby avoiding the need for additional assembly or bonding processes. Using the developed process, several examples were fabricated.

  • Scoliosis is a complex musculoskeletal dieses requiring 3-D treatment with surgical instrumentation. To investigate the effects of correction surgery, a finite element model of personalized model of the scoliotic spine that will allow the design of clinical test providing optimal estimation of the post-operation results was developed. Three dimensional skeletal parts, such as vertebrae, clavicle and scapular were modeled as rigid bodies with keeping their morphologies. Kinematical joints and spring elements were adapted to represent the inter-vertebral disc and ligaments respectively. With this model, two types of surgery procedure, distraction procedure with Harrington device and rod derotation procedure with pedicle screw and rod system had been carried out. The obtained simulation results were comparatively corresponding to the post operational outcomes and successfully demonstrated qualitative analysis of surgical effectiveness. From this analysis, it has been found that the preparing of appropriate rod curvature and its insertion was more important than just performing the excessive derotation for scoliosis correction.

  • The superplastic forming/diffusion bonding(SPF/DB) is widely used in the automotive and aerospace industry because it has great advantage to produce complex, light and strong parts. But the superplastic forming process requires much forming time and generates excessive thinning in the thickness distribution of formed part. It is necessary to minimize trial and error for SPF/DB Process. Finite element analysis using $L_{18}$ orthogonal may table of Taguchi method for 3-Sheet D/B process is carried out. Through the study, effect of process parameters, such as DH region size, thickness and friction coefficient, is evaluated and the optimum condition is derived.

  • Vacuum-assisted thermoforming is one of the critical steps for the successful application of film insert molding(FIM) to parts of complex shapes. If the thickness distribution of the formed film is non-uniform, cracking, deformation, warping, and wrinkling can easily occur at the injection molding stage. In this study, the effects of processing parameters, which include the film heating time, plug depth, plug speed and vacuum delay time, on film thickness distribution were investigated. It was found that the film thickness at the part sidewall decreases with increasing the film heating time and plug depth, but the thickness at the bottom was found to exhibit the opposite behavior. The film thickness of the sidewall was observed to increase at higher plug speed and vacuum delay time of 0 ~ 0.3sec.

  • KOMAC (KOrea Multi-purpose Accelerator Complex) is the 1 Gev, 20 ㎃ proton linac. The superconducting linac for the high energy part acceleration from 100 MeV to 1 GeV is selected as a main candidate. As is well known, the superconducting linac has advantages for high current, high energy acceleration such as a large bore size, short accelerator length, and the RF efficiency. In this energy, the velocity of proton increases from $\beta$=0.87. For the design and fabrication simplicity, the cavity $\beta$ stages are divided into 3 parts. The maximum electric field in the cavity is designed below 20 ㎹/m. In this paper the design concepts and guides for this superconducting linac are introduced.

  • In electromagnetic transient analysis, complex transmission system should be modelled in detail. But in large system, this full representation of power transmission system has a big burden in many sides such as computation time, modelling efforts, etc. It is very required, therefore, in electromagnetic transients studies to represent parts of a complete system in a reduced or an equivalent form. This paper develops the method from which system equivalents may be derived. The suggested method is of an essentially transient form, and allows travelling wave interaction between the equivalent and explicit transmission network to be modelled.

  • In recent year there has been an increasing interest in the dynamic simulation of complex systems. This study uses a large-scale forty-seventh order fossil fuel power plant. Twenty-three state variables are associated with the physical processes and twenty-four state variables associated with the control system. The plant model is expected to predict all dominant effects in a steady and transient state. In this study, the power plant model is reorganized into four subsystems, each with its controller, and the four connected to each other through a manager, which is a fifth part to the system. The four parts of the unit are the boiler system, steam turbine system, condenser system, and feedwater system.

  • This paper deals with developing a Web-based Solver NRO(Network Reliability Optimizer) for solving three classes of reliability redundancy optimization problems which are generated in series systems. parallel systems and complex systems. Inputs of NRO consisted in four parts. that is, user authentication. system selection. input data and confirmation. After processing of inputs through internet, NRO provides conveniently the optimal solutions for the given problems on the Web-site. To alleviate the risks of being trapped in a local optimum, HH(Hybrid-Heuristic) algorithm is incorporated in NRO for solving the given three classes of problems, and moderately combined GA(Genetic Algorithm) with the modified SA(Simulated Annealing) algorithm.
