  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of multicultural complexes on activating local culture. Prior studies that discuss activating local culture through multicultural complexes focus on literature reviews or quantitative research methods, which do not incorporate the detailed and practical opinions of the users of the location. Therefore, this study collected detailed information through in-depth interviews with users, and investigated the future development methods of multicultural complexes based on the obtained information. It focused on the Asia Culture Center (ACC) in Gwangju, which is considered a prime example of a multicultural complex, and conducted in-depth interviews with citizens who have lived in Gwangju for at least five years as well as visited the ACC to investigate the research question from a detailed perspective. The results revealed that although the citizens of Gwangju have a positive perception of the functions of ACC as a cultural space representing the city that activates the local culture, they perceive it as partially insufficient to be considered a multicultural complex. Major findings included the following: the contents of the ACC do not have a mass appeal, its inflexible hours of operation inconvenience visitors, and the contents available for visitors lack in quantity and quality. Therefore, in order for the ACC to appeal as a successful multicultural complex, it is necessary to cooperate with the members of the community to investigate their needs with respect to the contents and location, and prepare strategic plans to satisfy those needs.

  • This study analyzed the process of steps in a program introducing Renzulli's enrichment triad model and various levels of posing open-ended problems of those who participated in the program for mathematics-gifted elementary students. As results, participants showed their abilities of problem posing related to real life in a program introducing Renzulli's enrichment triad model. From eighteen mathematical responses, gifted students were generally outstanding in terms of producing problems that demonstrated high quality completion, communication, and solvability. Amongst these responses from fifteen open-ended problems, all of which showed that the level of students' ability to devise questions was varied in terms of the problems' openness (varied possible outcomes), complexity, and relevance. Meanwhile, some of them didn't show their ability of composing problem with concepts, principle and rules in complex level. In addition, there are high or very high correlations among factors of mathematical problems themselves as well as open-ended problems themselves, and between mathematical problems and open-ended problems. In particular, factors of mathematical problems such as completion, communication, and solvability showed very high correlation with relevance of the problems' openness perspectives.

  • Even though it is generally recognized that entrepreneurship is complex socio-economic phenomena and entrepreneurial opportunities can be created from economic, social, technological, political and legal forces, entrepreneurship has been discussed in very narrow economic terms and focusing on narrow economic relationships such as consumers, suppliers, owners and employee. However, recently, a lot of researchers talk about social entrepreneurship. How can we explain social entrepreneurs? In our paper, employing stakeholder theory, we try to offer more realistic model to understand entrepreneurial opportunities. We claim that entrepreneurial exploitations can be successful only when entrepreneurs can identify ex post stakeholder inefficiencies. Thus, our efforts focus on the question of where, when, and how stakeholder inefficiencies occur?

  • Even though Gothic architecture, one of the most technologically complex sophisticated structural systems, has been interpreted by art and architectural historians since the nineteenth century, we still cannot entirely comprehend either the medieval builder's constructional technique and structural knowledge or the meaning of Gothic architectural elements. The major reason is that contemporaneous written documentation concerning design methods and constructional techniques of medieval architecture is lacking. In 1955, the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris exhibited the sketchbook of the thirteenth century architect Villard do Honnecourt. After the exhibition, analysis on the architectural drawings of Villard's sketchbook had reported widely. Most of analysis on Villard, however, has been on his drawing and artistic style, and there has been very little published analysis of his profession and question on the author of the sketchbook. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of the sketchbook and identify the artist who drew it. The sketchbook poses a number of unsolved questions. There is no doubt that several hands have contributed some drawing with appropriate captions, particularly in the section devoted to the application of practical geometry to problems of masonry and carpentry. Scholars have assumed and revealed that it was not made by only one person, and it dealt too many different fields and styles. Through this study, the sketchbook drawings consist of five different styles and person (original painter, master1, master2, master3, and the last owner), and they, not Villard, just redrew the original drawings and bound the sketchbook. Therefore, Villard de Honnecourt was just a mentor of the sketchbook and he did not participate any writing and drawing in the sketchbook.

  • Is a multiple number of sputum specimens necessary for the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis? To answer this question, 6844 respiratory specimens obtained from previously untreated patients suspected of having pulmonary tuberculosis between 1998 and 2001 were evaluated retrospectively. All of the specimens were evaluated by acid fast bacilli smear and BACTEC 460 TB culture system. A total of 785 (11%) specimens from 353 patients were positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. For 76% (270/353) of these patients the organism was detected from sputum specimens collected sequentially for daily basis. Mycobacterium tuberculosis was isolated in the first, second and third samples of the majority (98%,195/199) of patients who had three or more sputum samples sent to the laboratory. Our results indicate that, we could carry out Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolation in the first, second and third sputum samples of the overwhelming majority of the patients and the diagnostic value of four or more sputum specimens submitted to the laboratory was very low (2%). We recommend that, for definitive and cost-effective diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis at least three sequential sputum specimens be collected for all patients suspected pulmonary tuberculosis.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to measure psychological well-being and to examine the associated factors in male baby boomers using Korean Working Conditions Survey Data 2011. Methods: This study was based on the 3rd Korean Working Conditions Survey Data 2011, which was conducted from June to November 2011 by the Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute. The total number of subjects was 3,340 male employees, who were born from 1955 to 1963 and responded to the question regarding occupational stress. Chi-square and multiple logistic regression were used for data analysis using the SAS ver 9.3 program. Results: Approximately 54.5% of the male babyboomer employees did not have psychological well-being. Factors associated with psychological well-being were weekend-shift and occupational stress including job insecurity, organizational system, and lack of reward. Night-shift and long working hours influenced psychological well-being, but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: This study is a meaningful attempt to measure psychological well-being and perform an analysis of associated factors in male baby boomer employees using nationwide survey data. We suggest a complex institutional supplement in terms of national and employers to increase the psychological well-being of baby boomers.

  • In the end of 20th century, the concept of p-adic invariant q-integral was introduced by Taekyun Kim. The p-adic invariant q-integral is the extension of Jackson's q-integral on complex space. It is also considered as the answer of the question whether the ultra non-archimedian integral exists or not. In this paper, we investigate the background of historical mathematics for the p-adic invariant q-integral on $Z_p$ and the trend of the research in this field at present.

  • The Z-DNA domain of human ADAR1 ($Z{\alpha}_{ADAR1}$) produces B-Z junction DNA through preferential binding to the CG-repeat segment and destabilizing the neighboring AT-rich region. However, this study could not answer the question of how many base-pairs in AT-rich region are destabilized by binding of $Z{\alpha}_{ADAR1}$. Thus, we have performed NMR experiments of $Z{\alpha}_{ADAR1}$ to the longer DNA duplex containing an 8-base-paired (8-bp) CG-repeat segment and a 12-bp AT-rich region. This study revealed that $Z{\alpha}_{ADAR1}$ preferentially binds to the CG-repeat segment rather than AT-rich region in a long DNA and then destabilizes at least 6 base-pairs in the neighboring AT-rich region for efficient B-Z transition of the CG-repeat segment.

  • The conceptual world of sentence is composed f substantives(nouns) and verbal. The verbal is a semantic center of sentence, the substantives are placed under control of verbal, and they are combined in a various way. In this paper, the structural relation of verbal and substantives are analyzed and the phrase unit sentence which is derived from the result of morphological analysis is interpreted by a variable pattern net. This variable pattern net analyzes the phrases syntactically and semantically and extracts conceptual units of clausal form. This paper expands the traditionally restricted Horn clause theory to the general sentence, separates a simple sentence from a complex sentence automatically, constructs knowledge base by clausal form of logical conceptual units, and applies it to a question-answering system.
