Because of the wide variety of the composite materials, inherent variability in properties, and complex temperature and strain rate dependence, large strain behavior of these materials has not been well characterized. Large strain behavior under uniaxial tension is characterized over a range of temperatures and strain rates, and a modified simple linear viscoelastic model is fit to the observed data. Of particular importance is the strain rate and temperature dependence of these composites, and it is the primary focus of this study. The strain rate and temperature dependence is then used to predict limiting tensile strains, based on Marciniak imperfection theory. Excellent correlation was obtained between model and experiment and the results are summarized in maps of forming limit as a function of strain rate and temperature.

A technical system generally comprise a number of subsystems and components that are interconnected in such a way that the system is able to perform a set of required function. Because of the complex system structure with serial, parallel and bridged connections, some certain subsystems or components are more critical than the others. The main concern of a reliability engineer is to identify potential failures and to prevent these failures from occurring. In order to prevent fatal failures, proper inspections and maintenance actions for each component are required Considering above objectives of reliability engineers and characteristics of a practical system, several practical method for evaluating system and component reliabilities have developed namely Birnbaum's and Fussell & Vesely's measures. However there are several critical weaknesses in traditional calculation process as the target system gets larger. In this paper, a new technique for calculating component's structural importance is proposed and compared to Birnbaum's with representative system examples (serial, parallel. k out of n, and bridge type).

In the previous double auction research for the market optimization, two basic assumptions are usually applied - (1) each trader has a linear or quasi-linear utility function of price and quantity, and (2) buyers as well as sellers have identical utility functions. However, in practice, each buyer and seller in a double auction market may have diverse utility functions for trading goods. Therefore, a flexible and integrated double auction mechanism that can integrate all traders' diverse utility functions is necessary. In particular, the flexible mechanism is more useful in a synchronous double auction because traders can properly change utilities in each round. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a flexible synchronous double auction mechanism in which traders can express diverse utility functions for the price and quantity of the goods, and optimal total market utility is guaranteed. In order to optimize the total market utility which consists of multiple complex utility functions of traders. We show the viability of the proposed mechanism through a several simulation experiments.

The management of organizational Human Resource is steadily shifting away from pure hierarchical to market mechanisms that involve external vendors. HR Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) has recently emerged as a significant administrative innovation in an organization's strategy. Our paper attempts to understand firm-specific factors influencing the scope of HR BPO needs. Study results show that IT maturity and firm size are influential factors on the scope of HR BPO needs. We hope that our attempt at empirically examining and predicting this emergent phenomenon will stimulate others to look at this important strategic challenge facing firms from a theoretical perspective. Such research initiatives will allow us not only to better understand this complex phenomenon, but also to drive useful management prescriptions grounded on theory-based research.

Cancer is a complex disease caused by a progressive accumulation of multiple genetic mutations. Consumption of fruits is associated with lower risk of several cancers, which is mainly associated to their phytochemical content. The use of functional foods and chemopreventive compounds seems to contribute in this process, acting by mechanisms of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic and hormonal. The Psidium Guajava has high potential functional related to pigments who are involved in the process of cancer prevention by having antioxidant activity. The aim of the present review is to expose some chemical compounds from P. Guajava fractions and their association with anti-carcinogenic function. The evidences supports the theory of anticancer properties of P. Guajava, although the mechanisms are still not fully elucidated, but may include scavenging free radicals, regulation of gene expression, modulation of cellular signalling pathways including those involved in DNA damage repair, cell proliferation and apoptosis.
Under development program for a complex system, the total system or major subsystems are tested to failure, system failure modes are analyzed, and design and engineering changes are made to eliminate these failure modes. If this TAAF(test-analyze-and-fix) process is continued, and modifications are made in a competent manner, then the system reliability increase. This paper presents the reliability growth theory and applies it to some subsystems during their development and initial production testing. The application of these techniques is a part of the product assurance function that plays an important role in product reliability improvement. In addition, the EN 50126 requires essentially reliability growth for RAM growth monitoring.
Due to the influence of nonlinearity and time-variation, it is difficult to establish an accurate model of concrete frame structures that adopt active controllers. Fuzzy theory is a relatively appropriate method but susceptible to human subjective experience to decrease the performance. To guarantee the stability of multi-time delays complex system with multi-interconnections, a delay-dependent criterion of evolved design is proposed in this paper. Based on this criterion, the sector nonlinearity which converts the nonlinear model to multiple rule base of the linear model and a new sufficient condition to guarantee the asymptotic stability via Lyapunov function is implemented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMI). A numerical simulation for a three-layer reinforced concrete frame structure subjected to earthquakes is demonstrated that the proposed criterion is feasible for practical applications.

This paper addresses the analysis and design of fuzzy control systems for a class of complex uncertain single-input single-output nonlinear systems. The proposed method represents the nonlinear system using a Takagi-Cugeno fuzzy model and construct a global fuzzy logic controller by blending all local state feedback controllers with a sliding mode controller. Unlike the commonly used parallel distributed compensation technique, we can design a global stable fuzzy controller without finding a common Lyapunov function for all local control systems, and can obtain good tracking performance by using sliding mode control theory. Furthermore, stability analysis is carried out not for the fuzzy model but for the real nonlinear system with uncertainties. Duffing forced oscillation sysmte is used as an example to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.
A linear carbon chain with pure sp hybridization has been intensively studied for the application of its intrinsic electrical properties to electronic devices. Owing to the high chemical reactivity derived from its unsaturated bond, encapsulation by carbon nanotubes (CNT) is provided as a promising method to stabilize the geometry of the linear carbon chain. Although the influence of CNT on the carbon chain has extensively been studied in terms of both electronic structure and geometries, the electron transport properties has not been discussed yet. In this regard, we provide the systematic atomic-scale analyses of the properties of the linear carbon chain within CNT based on a computational approach combining density-functional theory (DFT) and matrix green function (MGF) method. Based on the DFT calculations, the influence of CNT on electronic structures of the linear carbon chain is provided as well as its electrical origin. Via MGF calculations, we also identify the electron transport properties of the carbon chain - CNT complex.

In this paper, an optimal identification method using fuzzy-neural networks is proposed for modeling of nonlinear complex systems. The proposed fuzzy-neural modeling implements system structure and parameter identification using the intelligent schemes together with optimization theory, linguistic fuzzy implication rules, and neural networks(NNs) from input and output data of processes. Inference type for this fuzzy-neural modeling is presented as simplified inference. To obtain optimal model, the learning rates and momentum coefficients of fuzz-neural networks(FNNs) and parameters of membership function are tuned using genetic algorithm(GAs). For the purpose of its application to nonlinear processes, data for route choice of traffic problems and those for activated sludge process of sewage treatment system are used for the purpose of evaluating the performance of the proposed fuzzy-neural network modeling. The show that the proposed method can produce the intelligence model w th higher accuracy than other works achieved previously.
