  • This paper describes the preparation and characteristics of a battery capacitor and module for solar power system. A cylindrical 30,000F battery capacitor ($60{\times}138mm$) was assembled by using the $LTO(Li_4Ti_5O_{12})$ electrode as an anode and $NMC(LiNiMnCoO_2)-LCO(LiCoO_2)$ as a cathode. The battery capacitor has reduced energy density and power density under high CC(constant current) and CP(constant power) conditions. Battery capacitor module (16V, 11Ah) was fabricated using an asymmetric hybrid capacitor with a capacitance of 30,000F. In order to determine the characteristics of the battery capacitor Module for solar power system, battery capacitor cells were connected in series with active balancing circuit. As a result of measuring the 100w LED lamp, it was discharged at the voltage of 15V~10V, and the compensation time at discharge was measured to be about 4979s. Experimental results show that it can be applied to applications related to solar power system by applying battery capacitor module.

  • In order to promote the application of switched reluctance machines (SRM) in electric vehicles (EVs), the braking torque closed-loop control of a SRM is proposed. A hysteresis current regulator with the soft chopping mode is employed to reduce the switching frequency and switching loss. A torque estimator is designed to estimate the braking torque online and to achieve braking torque feedback. A feed-forward plus saturation compensation torque regulator is designed to decrease the dynamic response time and to improve the steady-state accuracy of the braking torque. The turn-on and turn-off angles are optimized by a genetic algorithm (GA) to reduce the braking torque ripple and to improve the braking energy feedback efficiency. Finally, a simulation model and an experimental platform are built. The simulation and experimental results demonstrate the correctness of the proposed control strategy.

  • A modified direct torque control (DTC) method based on torque angle is proposed for interior permanent-magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drivers used in electric vehicles (EVs). Given the close relationship between torque and torque angle, proper voltage vectors are selected by the proposed DTC method to change the torque angle rapidly and regulate the torque quickly. The amplitude and angle of the voltage vectors are determined by the torque loop and stator flux-linkage loop, respectively, with the help of the position of the stator flux linkage. Furthermore, to satisfy the torque performance request of EVs, the nonlinear dead-time of the invertor caused by parasitic capacitances is considered and compensated to improve steady torque performance. The stable operation region of the IPMSM DTC driver for voltage and current limits is investigated for reliability. The experimental results prove that the proposed DTC has good torque performance with a brief control structure.

  • In this paper, the voltage tracking control of a conventional DC-DC boost converter affected by unknown, time-varying circuit parameter perturbations is investigated. Based on the fundamental property of incremental passivity, a passivity based control law is designed. Then, to obtain a better disturbance rejection property, two generalized proportional integral (GPI) observers are employed to estimate the time-varying uncertainties in the output voltage and inductor current channels, and the estimated values are applied as feedforward compensation. Moreover, the global trajectory tracking performance of a system with disturbances is ensured under the composite controller. Finally, simulation and experiment studies are provided to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed controller delivers a promising disturbance rejection capability as well as a good nominal tracking performance.

  • A fast switching thyristor with a superior trade-off property between the on-state voltage drop and the turn-off time could be fabricated by the proton irradiation method. After fabricating symmetric thyristor dies with a voltage rating of 1,600V from $350{\mu}m$ thickness of $60{\Omega}cm$ NTD-Si wafer and $200{\mu}m$ width of N-base drift layer, the local carrier lifetime control by the proton irradiation was performed with help of the HI-13 tandem accelerator in China. The thyristor samples irradiated with 4.7MeV proton beam showed a superior trade-off relationship of $V_{TM}=1.55V\;and\;t_q=15{\mu}s$ attributed to a very narrow layer of short carrier lifetime(${\sim}1{\mu}s$) in the middle of its N-base drift region. To explain the small increase of $V_{TM}$, we will introduce the effect of carrier compensation by the diffusion current at the low carrier lifetime region.

  • Total 12 units of high power klystron-modulator systems as microwave source is under operation for 2.5-GeV electron linear accelerator in Pohang Light Source(PLS) linac. RF power and beam power of klystron are precisely measured for the effective control of electron beam. A precise measurement and measurement equipment with good response characteristics are required for this. Input power of klystron is calculated from the applied voltage and the current on its cathode. Tiny measurement error severely effects RF output power value of klystron. Therefore, special care is needed to measure precise beam voltage. Capacitive voltage divider(CVD) unit is intended for the measurement of beam voltage of 400 kV generated from the pulsed klystron-modulator system. Main parameter to determine the standard capacitance in the high arm of CVD is dielectric constant of insulation oil. Therefore CVD should be designed to have a minimum capacitance variation due to voltage, frequency and temperature in the measurement range. This paper will discuss the analysis of capacitive voltage divider for a pulsed high-voltage measurement, and the empirical relations between capacitance and oil temperature variation.

  • The purpose of this work is to develop the FES controller that can cope with the muscle fatigue which is one of the most important problems of current FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation). The feasibility of the proposed FES controller was evaluated by simulation. We used a fitness function to describe the effect of muscle fatigue and recovery process. The FES control system was developed based on the biological neuronal system. Specifically, we used PD (Proportional and Derivative) and GC (Gravity Compensation) control, which was described by the neuronal feedback structure. It was possible to control of multiple joints and muscles by using the phase-based PD and GC control method and the static optimization. As a result, the proposed FES control system could maintain the cycling motion in spite of the muscle fatigue. It is expected that the proposed FES controller will play an important role in the rehabilitation of SCI patient.

  • TFLIM(Transverse Flux Linear Induction Motor), making its closed magnetic path with the direction of the traveling field orthogonal, had been developed to decrease an edge effect of the general induction motor. To control the levitation force and the thrust force on the secondary part of TFLIM independently, the various methodologies have been presented. When we try to achieve the independent control using only the multi-phase inputs assigned in the stator coils as an approach, in which condition we can minimize the coupling effect between two forces\ulcorner In this paper, we show the qualitative influence of a slip frequency, an ac magnitude, a dc offset superposed in the ac power, and a major parameter of TFLIM on the couple through the computer simulation. And to realize the independent motions between levitation and thrust motion without any auxiliary means fur isolation of the secondary part of TFLIM, the decouple compensator is suggested, including the experimental results.

  • Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) method becomes more and more popular for the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery charger due to its convenience and safety in comparison with plugged-in charger. In recent years, Lithium batteries are increasingly used in EVs and Constant Current/Constant Voltage (CC/CV) charge needs to be adopted for the high efficiency charge. However, it is not easy to design the IPT Battery Charger which can charge the battery with CC/CV charge under the wide range of load variation due to the wide range of variation in its operating frequency. This paper propose a new design and control method which makes it possible to implement the CC/CV mode charge with minimum frequency variation (less than 1kHz) during all over the charge process. A 6.6kW prototype charge has been implemented and 96.1% efficiency was achieved with 20cm air gap between the coils.
