  • This paper presents a rule-based approach for automatically selecting critical contingencies in electric power systems. The rules required to perform the task are derived from inspection about results of simulation and expertise of operators. And inherent information of system, for example, topology of system configuration, and flow direction in a line by compensation theorem. etc., which are independent of operating point of system, is stored in the database using the off-line calculation. The approach was investigated using the study of a sample test system. Since it is based on the knowledge engineering technique, efficiency of selection can be improved by updating and adding the rules.

  • This paper presents a LMI(linear matrix inequality)-based fuzzy approach of modeling and active vibration control of geometrically nonlinear flexible plates with piezoelectric materials as actuators and sensors. The large-amplitude vibration characteristics and dynamic partial differential equation of a piezoelectric flexible rectangular thin plate structure are obtained by using generalized Fourier series and numerical integral. Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is employed to approximate the nonlinear structural system, which combines the fuzzy inference rule with the local linear state space model. A robust fuzzy dynamic output feedback control law based on the T-S fuzzy model is designed by the parallel distributed compensation (PDC) technique, and stability analysis and disturbance rejection problems are guaranteed by LMI method. The simulation result shows that the fuzzy dynamic output feedback controller based on a two-rule T-S fuzzy model performs well, and the vibration of plate structure with geometrical nonlinearity is suppressed, which is less complex in computation and can be practically implemented.

  • We present a simple design rule for a passive temperature-compensating optical package. We also present experimentally that a package fabricated by using the design rule compensates the temperature dependence of the resonant wavelength of an optical long period fiber grating by varying the strain inside the fiber, The package fabricated in this work consists of two pieced of brass tube, 10 mm long, and a piece of nylon rod, 45.4 mm long. It is shown that the package can compensate the temperature-induce wavelength shifts of the long period grating to a range of 6.8 pm/$^{\circ}C$, compared with 0..48 nm/$^{\circ}C$ for an uncompensated grating. The reduced strength of the fiber caused by exposure to ultraviolet limits the performance of the package to the range operating temperature form -3 $^{\circ}C$ to 7$0^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper presents neural networks for hybrid position/force control which is a type of position and force control for robot manipulators. The performance of conventional hybrid position/force control is excellent in the case of the exactly-known dynamic model of the robot, but degrades seriously as the uncertainty of the model increases. Hence, the neural network control scheme is presented here to overcome such shortcoming. The introduced neural term is designed to learn the uncertainty of the robot, and to control the robot through uncertainty compensation. Further more, the learning rule of the neural network is derived and is shown to be effective in the sense that it requires neither desired output of the network nor error back propagation through the plant. The proposed scheme is verified through the simulation of hybrid position/force control of a 6-dof robot manipulator.

  • This paper describes a single pulse-width modulation control strategy using the Single Pulse-Width Modulation (SPWM) method with a soft-switching technique for a wide range of output voltages from a bidirectional Dual-Active Bridge (DAB) converter. This method selects two typical inductor current waveforms for soft-switching, and proposes a rule that makes it possible to achieve soft-switching without any compensation algorithm from the waveforms. In addition, both the step-up and step-down conditions are analyzed. This paper verifies that the leakage inductance is independent from the rule, which makes it easier to apply in DAB converters. An integrated algorithm, which includes step-up and step-down techniques, is proposed. The results of experiments conducted on a 50-kW prototype are presented. The system efficiency is experimentally verified to be from 85.6% to 97.5% over the entire range.

  • This study reported on the cases about gender inequality in agriculture. Generally women have experienced something in vague situation as unequal to men in rural and agriculture. Despite of some women's have been complaining about this problem, it is not easy why and how many times they have been suffering. In this report, to get the information of gender unequality in agricultural laws and policies, the data was gathered by two steps. The first step, 175 cases into nine types was collected from leaders of several women farmer's associations, and after that, 60 cases selected to be interviewed by a specialist panel. The second step, it was analyzed the interviewed 60 cases based on real conditions compared with laws of items of policies. Among the cases, it was analyzed 8 rural women's who had been experienced to receive the inappropriate compensation in an unexpected accidents. From these cases, it was drew up some suggestions as follows; to make a rule to certify of the identity of woman farmer, and to build in a monitoring system of gender equality in agriculture.

  • A three-phase three-level shunt active filter controlled by fuzzy logic current controller which can compensate current harmonics generated by nonlinear loads is presented. Three-level inverters and fuzzy controllers have been successfully employed in several power electronic applications these past years. To improve the conventional pwm controller performance, a new control scheme based on fuzzy current controller is adopted for three-level (NPC) shunt active filter. The scheme is designed to improve compensation capability of APF by adjusting the current error using a fuzzy rule. The inverter current reference signals required to compensate harmonic currents use the synchronous reference detection method. This technique is easy to implement and achieves good results. To maintain the dc voltage across capacitor constant and reduce inverter losses, a proportional integral voltage controller is used. The simulation of global system control and power circuits is performed using Matlab-Simulink and SimPowerSystem toolbox. The results obtained in transient and steady states under various operating conditions show the effectiveness of the proposed shunt active filter based on fuzzy current controller compared to the conventional scheme.

  • The compensation characteristics of WDM channels depending on residual dispersion per spans (RDPS) deviation in optical links with the randomly distributed RDPS for the adaptive configuration are investigated in this paper. Also, the link design rule related with RDPS deviations is proposed, from the viewpoint of the allowable net residual dispersion (NRD). It is confirmed that the effect of compensation for the distorted WDM channels is more increased as RDPS deviation is smaller. Also, it is confirmed that the decrease of the allowable NRD range for the exact eye opening penalty (EOP) is proportional to RDPS deviation. Therefore, the results of this research is expected to be the design reference for the flexible link configuration of long-haul optical transmission links.

  • The permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) is receiving Increased attention for servo drive applications in recent years because of its high torque to inertia ratio, superior power density and high efficiency. By vector-controll method, PMSM has the same operating characterics as seperately excited dc motor. The drive system of servo motor is requested to have an accurate response for the reference input and a quick recovery for the disturbance such as load torque. However, when the unknown disturbances and parameter variations are imposed on the permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM), the drive system is significantly effected by them. As a result, the drive system with both a fast compensation and a robustness to a parameter variations is requested. This paper investigates the possibility of applying the fuzzy logic controller(FLC) using Multi-Rule Base In a servo motor control system. In this paper, The five Rule Bases(1 to 5) are selected to recover the state error caused by the disturbance in steady state. In the initial operating mode. Rule Base 0 is used. To show the validity of the proposed fuzzy logic controll system, the computer simulation results are provided.

  • Vision-based vehicle detector systems are becoming increasingly important in ITS applications. Real-time operation, robustness, precision, accurate estimation of traffic parameters, and ease of setup are important features to be considered in developing such systems. Further, accurate vehicle detection is difficult in varied complex traffic environments. These environments include changes in weather as well as challenging traffic conditions, such as shadow effects and jams. To meet real-time requirements, the proposed system first applies a color background to extract moving objects, which are then tracked by considering their relative distances and directions. To achieve robustness and precision, the color background is regularly updated by the proposed algorithm to overcome luminance variations. This paper also proposes a scheme of feedback compensation to resolve background convergence errors, which occur when vehicles temporarily park on the roadside while the background image is being converged. Next, vehicle occlusion is resolved using the proposed prior split approach and through reasoning for rule-based tracking. This approach can automatically detect straight lanes. Following this step, trajectories are applied to derive traffic parameters; finally, to facilitate easy setup, we propose a means to automate the setting of the system parameters. Experimental results show that the system can operate well under various complex traffic conditions in real time.
