  • The estimated location coordinator exploration scheme and the E&E(Equivalent distance rate & Estimated location coordinator exploration) compensation algorithm for localization is proposed, and the performance of the E&E is analyzed in this paper. The proposed scheme is adapted to the AEDR(Algorithm for localization using the concept of Equivalent Distance Rate). From several experiments, it is confirmed that the performance of the localization compensation in SDS-TWR is improved from 0.60m to 0.34m in four experimental scenarios, and the performance of the localization compensation ratio of the E&E is also better than that of the AEDR as a level of maximum 15%. It can be thought that the proposed localization compensation algorithm E&E can be sufficiently applicable to various localization applications because the performance of the localization error rate of the E&E is measured as less than 1m in 99% of the total performance experiments.

  • This paper presents a novel K-band (18 GHz) 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)-based $2{\times}2$ line-of-sight multi-input multi-output communication system. The system can deliver 356 Mbps on a 56 MHz channel. Alignment mismatches, such as amplitude and/or phase mismatches, between the transmitter and receiver antennas were examined through hardware experiments. Hardware experimental results revealed that amplitude mismatch is related to antenna size, antenna beam width, and link distance. The proposed system employs an alignment mismatch compensation method. The open-loop architecture of the proposed compensation method is simple and enables facile construction of communication systems. In a digital modem, 16-QAM OFDM with a 512-point fast Fourier transform and (255, 239) Reed-Solomon forward error correction codecs is used. Experimental results show that a bit error rate of $10^{-5}$ is achieved at a signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 18.0 dB.

  • Motion compensation is a powerful method to compress an image sequence. Its main drawback is that once an error is occurred, the error propagates through the frames. Recently, the intra update method was proposed to stop the error propagation at the expense of reduction in compression efficiency. This paper proposes an intra update method based on a rate-distortion optimization in error prone environments. The rate and the distortion are estimated using the Lagrangian optimization to select the coding mode and the quantization step size. The proposed method is applied to MPEG-4 codec, and the experimental results show that it is robust to the error such as packet losses comparing with the conventional ones.

  • A method to compensate a bias hysteresis error of the ring laser gyro using the rate of temperature is proposed in this paper. Until now, we generally have measured and compensated the error of gyro and accelerometer using the temperature. However, we utilize the measured values of the temperature dependent error elements on the temperature rate in navigation system level. We show through experiments that the proposed method can improve the navigation performance and be very effective.

  • The performance of speech recognition system is degraded by mismatch between training and test environments. Recently, Stereo-based Piecewise LInear Compensation for Environments (SPLICE) was introduced to overcome environmental mismatch using stereo data. In this paper, we propose several methods to improve the conventional SPLICE and evaluate them in the Aurora2 task. We generalize SPLICE to compensate for covariance matrix as well as mean vector in the feature space, and thereby yielding the error rate reduction of 48.93%. We also employ the weighted sum of correction vectors using posterior probabilities of all Gaussians, and the error rate reduction of 48.62% is achieved. With the combination of the above two methods, the error rate is reduced by 49.61% from the Aurora2 baseline system.

  • In this paper, the Location Compensation Mechanism using equivalent distance rate ($LCM_{edr}$) for localization system based on SDS-TWR (Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging) in wireless sensor network is proposed. The performance of the mechanism is experimented in terms of two types of the localization tracking scenarios of indoor and outdoor environments in university campus. From the experimentations, the compensation ratio in the $LCM_{edr}$ is better than that in SDS-TWR about 90% in indoor/outdoor environments in scenario 1 but also is better than that of SDS-TWR about 91.7% in indoor environment and about 100% in outdoor environment in scenario 2 respectively.

  • In this paper, we expect that the IEEE 802.15.4a, which is based on CSS, will be used a lot without getting help from other systems or sensors and will make it possible to measure the distance between radio chips in sensor network field, where the location information of the standard have to be based upon. But, the error rate will be high, so we will correct the location of the tag, which will be received by anchor. The technology of location correction we offer is reducing the error rate through calculating the distance from Compensation Tag, and after that, unite the Toa method with the Fingerprint method and adapt them to location correction technology, calculate the location's estimate, and finally abstract the best suited location estimate for Compensation Tag. At last, we offer developing systems as indoor systems of CSS, which pursue the location between nodes, and a thesis about indoor systems and making their accuracy higher.

  • We propose an inductive compensation method for a surface-mountable 10 Gbps photoreceiver module. Since many typical 10 Gbps photoreceiver modules consist of a photodetector and low-noise pre-amplifier, the impedance mismatch between the photodetector and pre-amplifier, as well as package parasitics, may reduce the frequency bandwidth. In this paper, we inserted an inductive component between the photodetector and pre-amplifier in order to create frequency bandwidth expansion. From the measurement results, we have found that the proposed technique can increase the -3 dB bandwidth about 4.2 GHz wider compared with an uncompensated module. And, from a bit-error rate (BER) test, we observed -15.7 dB sensitivity at $10^{-12}$ BER. This inductive compensation can be implemented easily and is compatible with common manufacturing processes of photoreceiver modules.

  • This Paper presents the 3D wavelet transformation based video compression system, which possesses the capability of progressive transmission by increasing resolution and increasing rate for multimedia applications. The 3D wavelet packet based video compression system removes the temporal correlation of the input sequences using the motion compensation filter and decomposes the spatio-temporal subband using the spatial wavelet packet transformation. The proposed system allocates the higher bit rate to the low frequency image of the 3D wavelet sequences and improves the 0.49dB PSNR performance of the reconstructed image in comparison with that of H.263. In addition to the limitation on the propagation of the motion compensation error by the 3D wavelet transformation, the proposed system progressively transmits the input sequence according to the resolution and rate scalability.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems utilizing direct conversion receiver suffer from frequency selective (FS) and frequency independent (FI) phase and gain imbalances caused by imperfect local oscillator and low pass filter. In this paper, we analyze the impacts of the transmit/receive IQ imbalances on the system and propose the estimation and compensation schemes for those imbalances. The preamble signals coded by Alamouti scheme in the frequency domain could be used in the estimation of relatively large IQ imbalances with FS and FI characteristics and the estimation results are used for the compensation of distortions caused by the FI and FS IQ imbalances. The optimal maximum likelihood (ML) receiver or suboptimal ordered successive interference cancallation (OSIC) receiver utilizing the estimation results show symbol error rate (SER) performance improvement compared to zero-forcing (ZF) technique due to diversity gain inherent in the frequency domain IQ imbalances combined with the frequency selective channels.
