Compensation of Errors on Car Black Box Records and Trajectory Reconstruction Analysis (자동차 블랙박스 기록 오차 보정과 경로 재구성 해석)

  • This paper presents reconstruction analysis of vehicle trajectory using records of a developed black box, and results of validation tests. For reconstruction of vehicle trajectory, the black box records the longitudinal and lateral accelerations and yaw-rate of vehicle during a pre-defined time period before and after the accident. One 2-axis accelerometer is used for measuring accelerations, and one vibrating structure type gyroscope is used for measuring yaw-rate of vehicle. The vehicle's planar trajectory can be reconstructed by integrating twice accelerations along longitudinal and lateral directions with yaw-rate values. However, there may be many kinds of errors in sensor measurements. The causes of errors are as follows: mis-alignment, low frequency offset drift, high frequency noise, and projecting 3-dimensional motion into 2-dimensional motion. Therefore, some procedures are taken for error compensation. In order to evaluate the reliability and the accuracy of trajectory reconstruction results, the black box was mounted on a passenger car. The vehicle was driven and tested along various specified lanes. Through the tests, the accuracy and usefulness of the reconstruction analysis have been validated.

Performance Analysis and Evaluation of Hybrid Compensation Algorithm for Localization (하이브리드형 위치인식 보정 알고리즘 성능 분석 및 평가)

  • In this paper, the hybrid compensation algorithm($A_{HB}$) for localization using the Compensation Algorithm distance($CA_d$) and the Algorithm of Equivalent Distance Rate(AEDR) in SDS-TWR(Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging) is suggested and the performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed by practical experimentations. From experimentations, it is confirmed that the errors are reduced in 28 coordinates of total 32 coordinates in the experimental region and the errors are reduced about above 70% in the assigned 3 type error level ranges by $A_{HB}$. Also, it is analyzed that the average localization error is reduced from 2.67m to 1.19m as 55.4% in total 32 coordinates by $A_{HB}$ and the error compensation capability of $A_{HB}$ is very excellent as above 90%. From above results, we have seen that the error reduction ratio and error compensation capability of $A_{HB}$ is more excellent than each $CA_d$ or AEDR.

Compensation of the Error Rate for the Non-invasive Sphygmomanometer System Using a Tactile Sensor

  • The Purpose Of This Paper Is To Use A Tactile Sensor To Compensate The Error Rate. Most Automated Sphygmomanometers Use The Oscillometric Method And Characteristic Ratio To Estimate Systolic And Diastolic Blood Pressure. However, Based On The Fact That Maximum Amplitude Of The Oscillometric Waveform And Characteristic Ratio Are Affected By Compliance Of The Aorta And Large Arteries, A Method To Measure The Artery Stiffness By Using A Tactile Sensor Was Chosen In Order To Integrate It With The Sphygmomanometer In The Future Instead Of Using Photoplethysmography. Since Tactile Sensors Have Very Weak Movements, Efforts Were Made To Maintain The Subject's Arm In A Fixed Position, And A 40hz Low Pass Filter Was Used To Eliminate Noise From The Power Source As Well As High Frequency Noise. An Analyzing Program Was Made To Get Time Delay Between The First And Second Peak Of The Averaged Digital Volume Pulse(${\Delta}t_{dvp}$), And The Subject's Height Was Divided By ${\Delta}t_{dvp}$ To Calculate The Stiffness Index Of The Arteries($Si_{dvp}$). Regression Equations Of Systolic And Diastolic Pressure Using $Si_{dvp}$ And Mean Arterial Pressure(Map) Were Computed From The Test Group (60 Subjects) Among A Total Of 121 Subjects(Age: $44.9{\pm}16.5$, Male: Female=40:81) And Were Tested In 61 Subjects To Compensate The Error Rate. Error Rates Considering All Subjects Were Systolic $4.62{\pm}9.39mmhg$, And Diastolic $14.40{\pm}9.62mmhg$, And Those In The Test Set Were $3.48{\pm}9.32mmhg,\;And\;14.34{\pm}9.67mmhg$ Each. Consequently, Error Rates Were Compensated Especially In Diastolic Pressure Using $Si_{dvp}$, Various Slopes From Digital Volume Pulse And Map To Systolic-$1.91{\pm}7.57mmhg$ And Diastolic $0.05{\pm}7.49mmhg$.

  • Peak expiratory flow rate(PEF) is one of the most important diagnostic parameters in spirometry. PEF occurs in a very short duration during the forced expiratory maneuver, which could lead to measurement error due to non-ideal dynamic characteristic of the transducer. In such case the initial slope of the flow rate signal determines the accuracy of the measured PEF. The present study considered this initial slope as a parameter to compensate PEF. The 26 standard flow rate signals recommended by the American Thoracic Society(ATS) were flown through the air flow transducer followed by simultaneous measurements of PEF and maximum transducer output$(N_{PEF})$. $N_{PEF}$-PEF satisfied a quadratic equation in general, however, two signals (ATS #2 and #26) having large initial slopes deviated from the fitting equation to a significant degree. The relative error was found to be in a linear relationship with the initial slope, thus, $N_{PEF}$ was appropriately compensated to provide accurate PEF with mean relative error less than only 1%. The 99% confidence interval of the mean relative error was less than a half of the error limit of 5% recommended by ATS. Therefore, PEF can be very accurately determined by compensating the transducer output based on the initial slope, which should be a useful technique for air flow transducer calibration.

IQ Unbalance Compensation for OPDM Based Wireless LANs (무선랜 시스템에서의 IQ 부정합 보상 기법 연구)

  • This paper proposes an efficient estimation and compensation scheme of IQ imbalance for OFDM-based WLAN systems in the presence of symbol timing error. Since the conventional scheme assumes perfect time synchronization, the criterion of the scheme used to derive the estimation of IQ imbalance is inadequate in the presence of the symbol timing error and the system performance is seriously degraded. New criterion and compensation scheme considering the effect of symbol timing error are proposed. With the proposed scheme, the IQ imbalance can be almost perfectly eliminated in the presence of symbol timing error. The bit error rate performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by the simulation. In case of 54 Mbps transmission mode in IEEE 802.11a system, the proposed scheme achieves a SNR gain of 4.3dB at $BER=2{\cdot}10^{-3}$. The proposed compensation algorithm of IQ imbalance is implemented using Verilog HDL and verified. The proposed IQ imbalance compensator is composed of 74K logic gates and 6K bits memory from the synthesis result using 0.18um CMOS technology.

A Spectral Compensation Method for Noise Robust Speech Recognition (잡음에 강인한 음성인식을 위한 스펙트럼 보상 방법)

  • One of the problems on the application of the speech recognition system in the real world is the degradation of the performance by acoustical distortions. The most important source of acoustical distortion is the additive noise. This paper describes a spectral compensation technique based on a spectral peak enhancement scheme followed by an efficient noise subtraction scheme for noise robust speech recognition. The proposed methods emphasize the formant structure and compensate the spectral tilt of the speech spectrum while maintaining broad-bandwidth spectral components. The recognition experiments was conducted using noisy speech corrupted by white Gaussian noise, car noise, babble noise or subway noise. The new technique reduced the average error rate slightly under high SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) environment, and significantly reduced the average error rate by 1/2 under low SNR(10 dB) environment when compared with the case of without spectral compensations.

  • In this paper, the compensation algorithm for localization using the concept of equivalent distance rate(AEDR) in order to compensate ranging error in the SDS-TWR(Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging) is proposed and the performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed by the localization experiments. The ranging error of the SDS-TWR in the distance between mobile node and beacon node is measured to average 1m~8m by ranging experiments. But it is confirmed that the performance of the localization by the AEDR is better than that of the SDS-TWR 4 times in university auditorium and corridor, and the localization error of above 3~10m is reduced to average 2m and that of below 3m is reduced to average 1m respectively. It is concluded that the AEDR is superior to the NLOS(Non Line Of Sight) than LOS(Line Of Sight) in performance of ranging compensation for localization, and the AEDR is more helpful to localization systems practically considering the environment of sensor networks is under NLOS.

  • In this paper. we propose an effective compensation scheme to the quantization error arisen from quantized learning in a machine learning on an embedded system. In the machine learning based on a gradient descent or nonlinear signal processing, the quantization error generates early vanishing of a gradient and occurs the degradation of learning performance. To compensate such quantization error, we derive an orthogonal compensation vector with respect to a maximum component of the gradient vector. Moreover, instead of the conventional constant learning rate, we propose the adaptive learning rate algorithm without any inner loop to select the step size, based on a nonlinear optimization technique. The simulation results show that the optimization solver based on the proposed quantized method represents sufficient learning performance.

  • In this paper, the parameters of the RTT (Radio Transmission Techniques) for SANET (Ship Ad-hoc NETwork), which is considered for the next generation maritime communication systems, are set up. A channel model has been analyzed based on the practical measured maritime wireless channel in VHF (Very-High Frequency) for SANET system. Also, by considering the frame structure including preamble, guard time and pilots for both single and multi-carrier systems, the BER (Bit Error Rate) performances are evaluated and analyzed in the aspects of channel compensation and channel coding techniques. Based on the simulation results, optimal modulation & coding schemes are suggested for SANET. That is, in single-carrier system by using differential modulation schemes, channel compensation is not necessary. However, channel coding is helpful to achieve additional gain. On the other hand, when 16-QAM modulation is employed in multi-carrier system, the implementation of both channel compensation and channel coding techniques show huge performance gain for various of K values, which are related to different maritime environments, and the rolling effects of wave.
