  • The actual power performance of historical structural change tests are compared under various alternatives. The tests of interest are F, CUSUM, MOSUM, Moving Estimates and empirical distribution function tests with both recursive and ordinary least-squares residuals. Our comparison of the structural tests involves limiting distributions under the hypothesis, the ability to detect the alternative hypotheses under one or double structural change, and smooth change in parameters. Even though no version is uniformly superior to the other, the knowledge about the properties of those tests and connections between these tests can be used in practical structural change tests and in further research on other change tests.

  • Purpose: This study explored possible risk factors influencing the development of colorectal cancer by comparing life habits of colorectal cancer patients and healthy adults. Methods: The study was designed as a retrospective comparison survey study of the colorectal cancer patient group and healthy adult group. 107 colorectal cancer patients in a university hospital and 124 healthy adults were recruited from October 2011 to August 2012. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test/t-test and logistic regression with the SPSS program. Results: Consumption of instant food products, lower stress management, burned meats and unhealthy eating habits were shown to be risk factors in development of colorectal cancer. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study comparing colorectal cancer patients and healthy adults, minimizing consumption of instant food products, development of healthy eating habits of consuming more vegetables, cooking meat slightly, and effective management of stress levels are recommended.

  • This paper shows accuracy comparison results of reliability estimation methods for one-shot systems with respect to sample sizes. To compare accuracy in reliability estimation methods, quantal-response data, characterizing one-shot systems, were simulated using failure times of LED obtained through the accelerated life test, and then the true reliability over time was evaluated using the failure times. The simulated quantal-response data were used to estimate the true reliability through applying reliability estimation methods in open literature. Accuracy of each reliability estimation method was compared in terms of both SSE (Sum of Squared Error) and MSE (Mean Squared Error), and then estimation trend for each method is found. Feasible bounds which true reliability would exist within were estimated through applying the found trends to quantal-response data set of a real weapon system.

  • The fire resistance performance of 2 RC slabs after exposure to the ISO-834 fire standard without loading has been experimentally investigated. A Comparison is made of the fire resistance performance between RC slabs without PP(polypropylene) fibers and RC slabs with PP fibers. From the fire test results, the presence of PP fibers in RC slabs can reduce spalling and enhance their fire resistance. Until now, the determination of fire resistance of reinforced concrete(RC) slabs has essentially been based on tabulated data. According to ACI 216 code and EUROCODE 2, the design of concrete structures is essentially based on tabulated data for appropriate concrete cover and various fire durations. From the comparison between fire test results and codes, current fire design provisions of codes such as the ACI 216 and the EUROCODE 2 are unconservative for estimating mechanical properties of RC slabs at elevated temperatures.

  • Using the nonlinear load transfer function for pile side soil and the linear load transfer function for pile end soil, a combined approach of the incremental load transfer matrix method and the approximate differential equation solution method is presented for the nonlinear analysis of interaction between flexible pile group and soil. The proposed method provides an effective approach for the solution of the nonlinear interaction between flexible pile group under rigid platform and surrounding soil. To verify the accuracy of the proposed method, a static load test for a nine-pile group under a rigid platform is carried out. The finite element analysis is also conducted for comparison purposes. It is found that the results from the proposed method match very well with those from the experimental test and are better in comparison with the finite element method.

  • The object of this paper is to find out a coolant level, which is economic and similar to the conventional level, high level, in cutting temperature. For this, new coolant level, called a low level, was proposed, which is about 1/4 of conventional level. And the cutting temperature of each coolant level in turning was analyzed using statistical method. Firstly, it was analyzed that the temperature mean of each coolant level is not equal by ANOVA-test. Secondly by Tukey's HSD, one of multiple comparisons, it was analyzed that the temperature mean of low level is similar to that of high level and different from that of none level.

  • Recently metropolitan local governments is actively introducing urban railway's expand and light rail transit as a means of new transport system. DC electricity feeder system operating in the domestic urban railway is typically a feedback circuit consisted of the contact wire and electric railway vehicle via rail. But stray current is to be defined as a current flowing on a structure that is not part of the intended electrical circuit with respect to a given structure. Stray current is generally results from the leakage of return currents from large DC traction systems that are grounded or have a bad earth-insulated return path. At the place where the current leaves the rail and metallic structures, electrolytic corrosion may take place. This paper presents comparison analysis of field test methods based on criteria of electrolytic corrosion protection of buried metallic structures adjacent to DC traction systems.

  • Nowadays an HMM-based text-to-speech system (HTS) has been very widely studied because it needs less memory and low computation complexity and is suitable for embedded systems in comparison with a corpus-based unit concatenation text-to-speech one. It also has the advantage that voice characteristics and the speaking rate of the synthetic speech can be converted easily by modifying HMM parameters appropriately. We implemented an HMM-based Korean text-to-speech system using a small size Korean speech DB and proposes a method to increase the naturalness of the synthetic speech by controlling duration model parameters in the HMM-based Korean text-to speech system. We performed a paired comparison test to verify that theses techniques are effective. The test result with the preference scores of 73.8% has shown the improvement of the naturalness of the synthetic speech through controlling the duration model parameters.

  • A $2{\times}2$ Cross-over design is widely used in clinical trials for comparison studies of two kinds of drugs or medical treatments. This design has many statistical methods such as Hills-Armitage's (1979) method or Koch's (1972) method. In this paper, we propose a nonparametric test for $2{\times}2$ Cross-over design based on a two-sample test suggested by Baumgartner et al. (1998). In addition, a Monte Carlo simulation study is adapted to compare the power of the proposed methods with those of previous methods.

  • Mardia (Biometrika, 57, 519-530, 1970) defined measures of multivariate skewness and kurtosis. Based on these measures, omnibus test statistics of multivariate normality are proposed using normalizing transformations. The transformations we consider are normal approximation and a Wilson-Hilferty transformation. The normalizing transformation proposed by Enomoto et al. (Communications in Statistics-Simulation and Computation, 49, 684-698, 2019) for the Mardia's kurtosis is also considered. A comparison of power is conducted by a simulation study. As a result, sum of squares of the normal approximation to the Mardia's skewness and the Enomoto's normalizing transformation to the Mardia's kurtosis seems to have relatively good power over the alternatives that are considered.
