  • This study aims to present accurate soil modeling and validation of a single roadside guardrail post as well as a single concrete pile installed near cut slopes or compacted sloping embankment. The conventional Winkler's elastic spring model and p-y curve approach for horizontal ground cannot directly be applied to sloping ground where ultimate soil resistance is significantly dependent on ground inclination. In this study, both grid-based 3-D FE model and particle-based SPH (smoothed particle hydrodynamics) model available in LS-DYNA have been adopted to predict the static behavior of a laterally loaded guardrail post. The SPH model has potential to eliminate any artificial soil stiffness due to the deterioration of the node-connected Lagrangian soil mesh. For this purpose, this study comprises two parts. Firstly, only 3-D FE modeling has been tested to show the numerical validity for a single concrete pile in sloping ground using Mohr-Coulomb material. However, this material option cannot be implemented for SPH elements. Nevertheless, Mohr-Coulomb model has been used since this material model requires six input soil data that can be obtained from the comparative papers in literatures. Secondly, this work is extended to compute the lateral resistance of a guardrail post located near the slope using the hybrid approach that combines Lagrange FE elements and SPH elements by the suitable node-merging option provided by LS-DYNA. For this analysis, the FHWA soil material developed for application to road-base soils has been used and also allows the application of SPH element.

  • Group recommendation analyzes the characteristics and tendency of a group rather than an individual and provides relevant information for the members of the group. Existing group recommendation methods merely consider the average and frequency of a preference. However, if the users' preferences have large deviations, it is difficult to provide satisfactory results for all users in the group, although the average and frequency values are high. To solve these problems, we propose a method that considers not only the average of a preference but also the deviation. The proposed method provides recommendations with high average values and low deviations for the preference, so it reflects the tendency of all group members better than existing group recommendation methods. Through a comparative experiment, we prove that the proposed method has better performance than existing methods, and verify that it has high performance in groups with a large number of members as well as in small groups.

  • AAD16034 is an alginate lyase from Pseudoalteromonas sp. IAM14594. A very close homologue with known 3D structure exists (marine bacterium Pseudoalteromonas sp. strain no. 272). A three-dimensional structure of AAD16034 was generated based on this template (PDB code: 1J1T) by comparative modeling. The modeled enzyme exhibited a jelly-roll like structure very similar to its template structure. Both enzymes possess the characteristic alginate sequence YFKhG+Y-Q. Since AAD16034 displays enzymatic activity for poly-M alginate, docking of a tri-mannuronate into the modeled structure was performed. Two separate and adjacent binding sites were found. The ligand was accommodated inside each binding site. By considering both binding sites, a plausible binding pose for the poly-M alginate polymer could be deduced. From the modeled docking pose (i.e., the most important factor that attracts alginate polymer into this lyase) the most likely interaction was electrostatic. In accordance with a previous report, the hydroxyl group of Y345 was positioned close to the ${\alpha}$-hydrogen of ${\beta}$-mannuronate, which was suitable to initiate a ${\beta}$-elimination reaction. K347 was also very near to the carboxylatemoiety of the ligand, which might stabilize the dianion intermediate during the ${\beta}$-elimination reaction. This implies that the characteristic alginate sequence is absolutely crucial for the catalysis. These results may be exploited in the design of novel enzymes with desired properties.

  • In the process of submitting a manuscript to a journal in order to present the results of the research at the research institution, researchers often proofread the manuscript because it can manuscripts to communicate the results more effectively. Currently, most of the manuscript proofreading companies use the manual proofreader assignment method according to the subjective judgment of the matching manager. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a topic-based proofreader matching method for effective proofreading results. The proposed method is categorized into two steps. First, a topic modeling is performed by using Latent Dirichlet Allocation. In this process, the frequency of each document constituting the representative document of a user is determined according to the importance of the document. Second, the user similarity is calculated based on the cosine similarity method. In addition, we confirmed through experiments by using real-world dataset. The performance of the proposed method is superior to the comparative method, and the validity of the matching results was verified using qualitative evaluation.

  • In February 2018, the Korean government established the "Comprehensive Plans for Government Innovation" in order to realize 'the people-centered government'. The core of the comprehensive plans is participation of the people, which is very similar to open innovation where social issues are solved by ideas and capabilities of the private sector rather than those of the government. Therefore, this study was conducted by extracting open innovation topics through topic modeling based on LDA(Latent Dirichlet Allocation) as English abstract-data from 2003, when the plans for open innovation was first announced, to April 2018. Based on the extracted results, it also conducted a comparative analysis with "Comprehensive Plans for Government Innovation." The study has significant implications in that it derives the relationship between the subjects, analyzes the present policies of Korea on open innovation and suggests directions for development.

  • This study performed quantitative assessment of the performance of adjustment models by a-priori analysis of the statistics of the surface parameter estimates against modeling factors. Lidar, airborne imagery, and SAR imagery have been used to acquire the earth surface elevation, where the shape properties of the surface need to be determined through neighboring observations around target location. In this study, parameters which are selected to be estimated are elevation, slope, second order coefficient. In this study, several factors which are needed to be specified to compose adjustment models are classified into three types: mathematical functions, kernel sizes, and weighting types. Accordingly, a-priori standard deviations of the parameters are computed for varying adjustment models. Then their corresponding confidence regions for both the standard deviation of the estimate and the estimate itself are calculated in association with probability distributions. Thereafter, the resulting confidence regions are compared to each other against the factors constituting the adjustment models and the quantitative performance of adjustment models are ascertained.

  • Since their emergence in 2007, smart phones have advanced up to the point that 5G mobile communication in 2019 started to be commercialized. Accordingly, now it is possible to share 3D modeling files and collaborate by means of a mobile web. As the recently commercialized 5G mobile communication network is so useful in sharing 3D modeling files and collaborating that even large-size geometry files can be transmitted at ultra high speed with ultra low transfer delay. We examines characteristics of major 3D file formats such as STL, OBJ, FBX, and glTF and compares the existing 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) network with the 5G NR (New Radio) mobile communication network. The loading time and packets of each format were measured depending on the mobile web browser environments. We shows that in comparison with 4G LTE, the loading time of STL and OBJ file formats were reduced as much as 6.55 sec and 9.41 sec, respectively in the 5G NR and Chrome browsers. The glTF file format showed the most efficient performance in all of the 4G/5G mobile communication networks, Chrome, and Edge browsers. In the case of STL and OBJ, the traffic was relatively excessive in 5G NR and Edge browsers. The findings of this study are expected to be utilized to develop a 3D file format that reduces the loading time in a mobile web environment.

  • Flow-Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) is a phenomenon in which a protective coating on a metal surface is dissolved by a flow of fluid in a metal pipe, leading to continuous wall-thinning. Recently, many countries have developed computer codes to manage FAC in power plants, and the FAC prediction model in these computer codes plays an important role in predictive performance. Herein, the FAC prediction model was developed by applying a machine learning method and the conventional nonlinear regression method. The random forest, a widely used machine learning technique in predictive modeling led to easy calculation of FAC tendency for five input variables: flow rate, temperature, pH, Cr content, and dissolved oxygen concentration. However, the model showed significant errors in some input conditions, and it was difficult to obtain proper regression results without using additional data points. In contrast, nonlinear regression analysis predicted robust estimation even with relatively insufficient data by assuming an empirical equation and the model showed better predictive power when the interaction between DO and pH was considered. The comparative analysis of this study is believed to provide important insights for developing a more sophisticated FAC prediction model.

  • This study was conducted in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic by analyzing a large amount of press report frames regarding the Covid-19 vaccine which is of great public interest, in order to explore the role and direction of trusted media as core elements of crisis communication. The study period lasted for eight months beginning in November 2020 when the development of the Covid-19 vaccine was in progress until June 2021. Set-up as research subjects were the Chosun Ilbo, Joongang Ilbo, Dong-A Ilbo and Hankyoreh according to their public confidence rankings and number of readers. The analysis method used structured topic Modeling (STM) and semantic network analysis. As a result, based on a clear cluster of word structures and a central analysis value, a total of 64 relevant frames, 16 for each news company, were gathered. In the third phase a comparative analysis of the four news companies was carried out to verify the organizational degree of the frames and substantial differences.
